  1. So you have some experience with using this jig? I have used the jig very little and have come to my own conclusions, I will keep them to myself but I would be interested in yours. A new thread may be appropriate.
  2. I'm curious why you feel this will do nothing to show the abrasion resistance qualities of the lines he wants to test.
  3. With the rest of their schedule they will have to play well just to get into the playoffs. Maybe a wildcard spot, but they still have the Raiders, Denver, San Diego and Pittsburgh to think about.
  4. Nice baits, I have a few but mine are deep divers.
  5. That's funny, I guess all a guy can do is tip his hat and thank the man for the lesson.
  6. Them local boys can flat wear you out with a WW.
  7. I have that same rod in a 6'6", it is one of the times I prefer glass to graphite, banging into those rocks all day is just a better experience with a glass rod IMO.
  8. My Grandparents were from Siloam Springs, I spent a lot of time on Beaver lake when I was growing up. My parents had a couple of lots over on Bull Shoals for a while also. I don't know if there are lakes any more beautiful than the lakes of the White River chain. Oh, and rocky might be an understatement.
  9. Cool, I will look for your video. I know you boys over there in AR fish a lot of rocky area so it will be interesting to see what you come up with.
  10. Try using a Nu-Tech jig, apparently it is almost impossible to get them hung up.
  11. I know you are getting a little upset, but I am not trying to argue with you. I have been using FX2 since it was released, it is a great braided line for many reasons. But I have to say that in my fishing when rocky area and zebra muscle are concerned it would never be my choice over a good FC line like Tatsu. I do use braid on my spinning reels in areas that have a high population of zebra muscle, it has been my experience that I have less break offs and cut line when I use a FC leader. If you have tested both and braid is better for you then I would not change, but what I might do is experiment a little and confirm my results.
  12. Kind of a cool video, shows different lines tested for abrasion resistance in a very simple fashion. Worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=C-SqIsZaE6s
  13. Funny, I was thinking the same thing, I was looking in the background of his photo for butterflies with their wings pulled off. JK
  14. Braking is a means to help control the spool during casting to prevent over runs. Centrifugal braking has more effect on the spool and the beginning of the cast and magnetic has more effect at the end of a cast. Dual braking offers the ability to fine tune your reel so that you can make successful casts repeatedly. One style of braking is not going to always out perform the other, there are too many variables, but dual braking will give you more options.
  15. We were discussing this topic in another forum and when I started reading about it I came across these pictures. I found them very cool.
  16. Tongue ring??? Come on man those things are for teenage girls. If you are not going to get the Prince Albert then just stay home.... JK
  17. For me, I generally find that when I use a more rhythmic cadence it is good with smallmouth. When I am targeting largemouth bass my cadence is more erratic. I start with this, where I end up is where the fish want.
  18. I don't find one line or the other makes that much difference in terms of casting distance in my fishing. I can cast most every reel I own consistently between 30-40 yards. There are a lot of variables that go into every cast, it is very difficult to make a blanket statement that one line out performs the other always. I prefer FC, on my reels other than my frog rod and spinning reels. It is just my preference and that does not make it right.
  19. I believe that color matters. I have been reading a book that talks about a test that was conducted to help determine how much ability bass have to detect color. The test was done like this. " There were a series of targets connected to colored fishing line, bass were trained to strike certain colored fishing line in order to receive a reward of food. Once the bass learned which color line resulted in a reward, the test was repeated with fishing line of smaller diameter. Bass were able to quickly select the fishing line of the desired color down to four pound test line. The test was repeated with different colored fishing line with a high degree of accuracy. This test proved several things. Bass have highly developed color vision and were able to determine the differences between clear, purple, green, blue, yellow, and pink fishing lines." If a bass can tell the difference in color between 4lb fishing line, my thought is that color may play an important part in catching more fish.
  20. Just messing around I used a pupillary distance measurement of 60MM as most adults are somewhere between 60 - 65MM. When you use that as a scale, this fish ends up being a lot closer to 23-24 inches. I think you brother caught himself a very nice fish, and it's length and weight are largely under estimated.
  21. You will want to check your local laws, here is KS it is legal for us to sein or use bait traps to catch baitfish. Some of our laws include: You may not possess more than 500 fish. You can not transport the fish to another body of water or upstream of where they are caught past a dam or any other natural barrier than prevents fish from passing. The exception to the second rule is green sunfish, they can be used in any body of water as long as they were not removed from a body of water named in the aquatic nuisance list. These are laws that must be followed for personal use, and if you sell these fish you may be responsible for following commercial laws as well. My point is, do the research before you decide this is what you are going to do, you may get yourself in some trouble unknowingly if you fail to understand exactly what the laws are or worse yet unknowingly introduce a nuisance fish into a body of water. Good Luck
  22. I think it is a good idea, to an extent. A spinning reel would offer similar results. I am not sure my thinking is clear, but couldn't you put a shallow spool in a cranking reel and achieve a similar result?
  23. Turn the skull and display it with the long, narrow, bone at the top. I believe it may be the partial skull of a sturgeon or similar fish.
  24. Kind of an apple to oranges comparison don't you think?
