  1. Use the same thing you would use during the day. Seriously. Bait, be it shad, gills, perch, trout, craws dont change color just because it gets dark outside. They're the saw color 24/7.
  2. What it all comes down to in the end is preference. That's what bass fishing is, preference. The fish dont care what line, rod, reel, hook, or sinker you use. I'm sorry if my response sounded condesending in any way. By inconsistent I meant performance inconsistency.
  3. That's cool but I base my opinions on experience with products. I'll never knock a product ever but ill give my honest opinion of one after I've used it for a bit. With seaguar, it was nothin' but problems. Three different spools, same problems. I gave it a chance and came to the conclusion that it was junk to me. That's my opinion. Sunline and toray have never once given me problems. Its lasted and lasted with not one break off or anything. I'll never waste money on seaguar again so more for you to use. From my understanding, seaguar extrudes cabelas fluoro, toray extrudes bps. I'll stick with what's been proven to me time and time again.
  4. Spend 320 and get a rod that was specifically designed for flippin and pitchin on the delta. Zombie rod and tackle. You wanna talk about balanced, light, and powerful. These rods have it all. I have a dobyns 766 and I use the zombie a whole lot more.
  5. I'd go with lew's over the curado e, woops I mean the chronarch. You'd be surprised at how smooth lews reels are, especially the tourney pro. They do have a few new models coming out in October that are going to be awesome! Already have them pre ordered. I wouldn't mind checkin out one of the new revos though. They look siiick!
  6. First of all, what's your price range?
  7. Keep it simple man. Natural colors have always been fire. No need for 10 different colors. 99% of the time im throwin a brown fine living rubber jig with a watermelon, watermelon red flake, green pumpkin, and cinnamon black flake Yamamoto double tail grub. Never had a problem catching fish in any body of water.
  8. If money isn't an issue, go with a zombie 7'4" nice tip and a tooon of backbone.
  9. I think it'd be better. Its not necessarily better than a 7'6" but when your punching you want that extra length to keep that fish pinned when your having to dig her out of the grass. I think theb795 would be best for swimbaits because you can't really cast it over head like smaller baits so that extra 3 inches would help get more distance on a side arm/lob cast. I was actually looking at the recon 795 myself for the same reasons you are.
  10. I would go with the 795. That seems like it would suit your needs better. I'm addicted to throwin swimbaits right now but I also looove fishing the heavy stuff so thats what I would get if I were to get a recon.
  11. Try some event. I've had bass follow my swimbait before so I smothered it in scent and bam! They demolished that thing. Just a suggestion.
  12. The Okuma guide select would be perfect and won't break the bank. Trust me, you'll be throwin 8" hudds and other big swimbaits in no time lol all the suggestions here are great so you've got some thinking to do. I've been dedicating every trip to swimbaits and its paid off so get the best rod you can in your price range if you really plan on throwin them exclusively for awhile.
  13. It actually doesn't. You want the wraps to stack on top of each other neatly not ball up.
  14. You have to make the same number of wraps up and down for this knot to be at its strongest.
  15. Its hyped because its better. I'm not knocking seaguar in any way but from experience with the stuff, its complete junk to me. I had nothing but problems. Sunline as well as today's abrasion resistance is insanely awesome. I've had fish drag my line over rock, through timber, You name it and I still got fish in the boat. Never ever had a fish break off, not once. Seaguar on the other hand, break offs on hooksets, fish breaking off, way too much stretch, just problems. Idk but id rather spend the money on fluoro I know is and has been consistent than spend money on fluoro that's not so consistent. Oh and btw, sunline sniper, one of the best fluoros on the market, is only about a buck more than seaguar so idk why people say its expensive. Toray is pricey buuut you get what you pay for.
  16. Well there's really only 2, maybe 3 plants in the world that extrude fluoro. 2 of which are in Japan and one in I think Germany but I could be wrong. They might both be extruded in the same factory but they are not the same at all. Toray seems to be a step above every other fluoro I've tried in every way. Its not as limp as most fluoros but its still very manageable. I dont think you can go wrong with either though.
  17. Yea true it is but it seems like a lot of people, well friends of mine are switching from seaguar to other fluoros because of inconsistencies. Sunline is amazing stuff. I've straightened med. Wire hooks with 14# sniper, it was crazy. Toray fluoro is absolutely amazing. I have nothing but great things to say about both sunline and toray. Toray is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.
  18. Check your tackle shops. Usually they have that stuff. That's where I get mine from.
  19. From what I hear, the recons are awesome! I have yet to fish one but I just might pick one up soon and give it a shot. I have and ultra mbx that I actually love so if the recon series are just as good it will be money well spent.
  20. I tie the Alberto and have never ever had a break off on a hook set. If that knot is going to fail, it will fail when you go to cinch it down. I like cinching the knot down tight then giving it a few quick short snaps/pops to make sure its not going to slip. Like stated above you have to retie, especially after 5 or 6 outings to ensure the highest knot strength possible.
  21. Well your first problem was using fluoro with the seaguar name on it lol jk jk when it comes to fluoro, you get what you pay for and if it's not made in Japan, dont waste your time. The Japanese have that market down and are so strict on quality control and those dudes really pay attention to detail. I know it's expensive but get toray super hard upgrade. That stuff is insanely strong and if you throw a backlash you dont have to worry about breaking off at all because the stuff is just beastly. Idk if a line conditioner really does anything to fluoro because I dont think fluoro absorbs liquid but I could be wrong.
  22. I don't think they are until October but not exactly sure
  23. You cant go wrong with a straight brown jig. Like I said I've caught fish, and good fish in every lake I've fished this year on a plain brown jig with a Yamamoto twin tail grub for a trailer. You dont have to have 10 different colors to catch fish thats unnecessary. Keep it simple, keep it subtle, keep it natural. As for jig heads themselves, if your fishing rock, your going to get hung up, there's no avoiding it. You have to slowly creep that jig over and through rocks the best you can. 99.9% of the time im throwin a 1/2 ounce jig. Perfect all around weight imo. They're not a sponsor here but check out californiareservoirlures.com the best jigs on the market hands down. I'm sure Johnny will have something you like.
  24. From my understanding, skeet pressured the owner of the trash fish to give him rights to that particular mold and obviously won. He didn't design that bait at all. Ill stick with the original trash fish. Softer, ton of action, and they flat out catch fish.
