  1. Looking for a solid kayak dolly to move my yak to and from my vehicle to the water. My back can't take lugging that thing anymore. Preferably one where I can put it right in the middle of my yak so the dolly takes all the weight. Also one with wheels that can handle pavement, grass, gravel, etc etc. So what are you all using for a yak dolly?
  2. I mean it could just be there aren't a lot of fish in those ponds you're fishing. Especially if they're really shallow. How big are they in size roughly? If I were you I would hop on Google Maps and explore your area. Look at map view and find the blue spots that mean water. Then zoom in with satellite view and see what the shore line and such looks like.
  3. I fish mostly private lakes and quarries but I still always get my license for the times when I fish public land. It's not worth the trouble of possibly getting a citation or even worse getting your gear confiscated.
  4. It's probably destroyed by now anyways. Why do you think it would survive this long submerged? lol. Phones are water resistant, not water proof. It's probably done by now.
  5. Yea man Rooster Tails are awesome and severely under rated. I like throwing bigger ones, 1/2 ounce or a 1 ounce. Bass nail them and I've caught some nice catties on them as well. Everything loves a Rooster Tail.
  6. Looking to replace my beat up Jansport school bag I've been using as a tackle bag. I'm looking for something not too huge. Right now my bag has 4 of the flat plastic tackle boxes in it and other random stuff. Scale, tools, soft plastics, etc etc. It has to be able to be strapped on the front of my kayak as well. My kayak has the bungee cords on the front to hold down my bag. Picture of my yak included. So what are you fellow kayak anglers using for a tackle bag?
  7. Start with visible cover on the bank. Fallen trees, logs, rocks, etc etc. A single branch sticking out of the water could have a bass on it. Look for baitfish activity, look for birds feeding. You certainly don't need a fish finder to find fish.
  8. Oddly enough I feel the same way about lipless cranks. Worthless for me. Lol. And spinnerbaits are one of my go to baits. Always have one tied on. Lol
  9. Honestly not much. They're just doing what they're paid for, promoting their sponsors gear.
  10. Picked this one up for my first yak last summer. Going to add a fish finder and a few mounts for my GoPro before this spring. Can't wait to get back out there!
  11. I use an old spark plug connected to a snap swivel and just slide it don my line, shake, shake, shake, got my lure back. Worker from the bank and in my yak.
  12. Agree on the bow and arrow trick. Now that I'm off the bank in my yak I haven't lost nearly as many lures but when I do snag the bow and arrow usually gets me free.
  13. Weightless wouldn't work well I don't think. A Senko by itself isn't enough weight to get you on the bottom and stay there.
  14. Worked great. For some reason though they rarely hit the bottom lure. I mean ive caught them on the bottom one but like 90% of my catches come on the drop shot bait. Whats weirder is Sunday I was fishing that drop shot with a normal weight a caught a fish here and there but when I changed the weight out for a texas rigged Senko I started slaying them. Same spot. I wonder if maybe it looks like a baitfish running from a predator and triggers the bass to strike. I use 10lb test for the main line and I up the leader to 12-14lb.
  15. I also used a jighead and grub for the weight too.
  16. Well usually when I hook a fish on the drop shot bait it hooks itself. I feel a tap and just pull tight on it and the fish is on. The ones I caught on the worm were just the same as any other worm hookset. Felt a tap tap, reeled down and set the hook. I actually thought the same thing before using it but it wound up working great.
  17. So recently I finally started fishing the drop shot. I've been doing very well with it. It's definitely my new favorite rig. Sunday I was catching a few fish on it. Using a VMC drop shot hook with the swivels on the hook with a KVD Dream Shot. I decided to try using a Texas Rigged Senko pegged with a bullet weight as the weight on the rig and started slaying them. Found a hump in about 15 feet of water and it was covered in fish. Big and small. So what else have you guys used as a drop shot weight?
  18. I was a marshal for Tim Horton and Ish Monroe. Awesome experience. It was a great tournament.
  19. My other spinning rod that always has a normal offset shank hook works perfectly. Same rod and reel, same pound test. Stick em every time. I guess those EWG hooks aren't really meant for lighter applications. I'll beef up the rod and line and see what happens. Thanks.
  20. I don't know if it's just me or if I'm doing something wrong but I have the absolute WORSt hookup ratio with EWG hooks. I use a 3/0-4/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook for big worms, Fat Ikas and Senkos sometimes. But for some reason I just can't get a hookset with them. For example, yesterday im in my yak casting a 6 inch Senko into about 15 feet of water. Bass were chasing bluegill and I would just let it sink weightless and get nailed. Fun way to catch fish. But with the EWG hook I got a bite, set the hook as hard as I could, fought the fish for about 30 seconds and then boom, line goes limp. I bring up my worm and the hook point didn't even penetrate the soft plastic. The fish was just holding onto the worm as it fought. What am I doing wrong? I use a spinning rod for soft plastics. 10lb test with a 4/0 EWG hook. When I use the normal offset shank worm hooks I stick em every time. With the EWG I even bend the point up and to the side a bit so it's not in line with the eye of the hook. But it doesn't help. Maybe I should just stick with offset shank worm hooks. But the dont work as well with Fat Ikas, one of my all time favorite baits.
  21. Yea if they ever come here again or anywhere close I am definitely signing up again. Ish was awesome. More talkative than Tim and he is hilarious. We talked about everything from fishing, to music. He let me stand right next to him while he flipped and pitched heavy cover and it was awesome to see a master of that technique that close.
  22. My fellow Philadelphians showing that bass fishing is alive and well in this city. What a crowd. Seemed like there was a lot of negativity going into this event. Not a lot of fish, not a lot of big fish, blah blah blah. Well, in order to be the best you have to be able to catch em on every lake and river there is. It was great to see them grinding out limits of 1-3 pounders like the rest of us mere mortals. Lol. But it turned out great. Not to mention I got to spend a day with Tim Horton and another with Ish Monroe.
  23. I was a marshal too. Got to spend a day with Tim Horton and another with Ish. An incredible experience.
  24. Yea Tim struggled all day. He threw a tiny crankbait, popper and a Senko rigged with a small colorado blade in the bottom. He lost a few 2-2.5lb fish as well. In this tourney that would have been huge. He was great. Talked to me. I tried not to bother him too much. He seemed really focused so I just asked him questions here and there about what he was doing. He caught a 6lb in practice he said. The spot was only accessable at low tide. We got there and couldn't fit yet so he fished the area for about an hour until the water fell some more. He had me laying on the front deck to keep the nose down it was so tight. Probably a 50 yard tunnel. Came out covered in spiders. Lol. We were smacking each other all over trying to get them off. Lol. We got in there and another pro was already in there. Tim was ticked to say the least. But he sucked it up and fished on. He caught his first fish in there though. Then we ran back to some spots that had isolated structure in like 4-5 feet of water where he got his second. I know it's a cliche term but "consumate professional" comes to mind. He put his head down and fished, didn't let loosing fish or someone else in his spot get to him. And let me just say, this was my first experience in a bass boat. HOLY CRAP! Flying down the river at like 70mph was insane. I held on to those two handles for my life. Lol. We hit a little chop a few times and the boat would bob to the side, thought I was going to fly out of that thing. But I didnt. Lol.
