  1. Im fishing a small tourney their this weekend. I have never fished there before. Are the fish still in late summer patterns? Thanks
  2. Gators will eat a bass, but most of there diet comes from turtles and slower moving fish. I catch bass around gators all the time.
  3. I have been catching nice limits just south of Fort Stoddard. The cooler temps have really helped the fishing. The top water bite has been great. Bass have really been busting shad lately. My son and I started out with weightless flukes early and wore 'em out. The top water quit, then we started using splitshot flukes and texas rigged flukes. We caught enough to have raw thumbs. Average weight was maybe 2.5lb. My son caught the largest 5.5lb.
  4. Post this on Aldeer.com in the fishing forum. There are several guys that fish down that way. They might can help you with the chips..
  5. Go to Quints in Saraland and get some maps. They used to have some good ones..........................FYI Alabama river is on right now.Find deep water, current, and wood. A texas rigged fluke is hard to beat.
  6. Where are launching. Im very familiar with this area. Stay on the rivers. This time of year the fish are in the current and deeper water. Its been so dry, the salt content is high. It would help if you went as far as you could north. Historically, the best weights come from the Middle and North Delta.
  7. Most all colleges now have Fishing Teams especially in FL. I am just starting at Louisiana Tech University and am joining the team here. You can contact the school's sports admin. and they can most likely tell you how to get involved. I'm not sure how other colleges do it but here, you must qualify to fish national tournaments. Once you qualify in your own college, you will be able to travel and fish against other colleges in your region. You have to pay everything out of pocket at first but you save all receipt of gas and rooming and the college reimburses the money to all athletes. So basically you get to travel and fish some of the greatest lakes in the nation for free. The only thing you would have to pay for would be food. I agree with this. I am on Southern Miss's team. Its a blast.
  8. Guys, I have some questions on fishing with braid. How visible in the water is it. I fish South Alabama and Mississippi rivers and lakes. We dont have "clear water", its stained. I catch most of my fish on T-Rigs and jigs. I usually use Mono, but how would braid work in this application. Can you only use braid when fishing heavy structure, so it blends with the structure? Also, What applications require a leader? Thank yall
