  1. If you sign up with a boater and they don't with drawal before the event you are in the event. Then it does go by priority of signing up.
  2. in my opinion, it would be personal perference. I use braid on all my gear and with spinning I use 8/30. 30 lb test but 8 pound diameter. I use it because I can still put a lot of line on my reels but if you drop down to 4 lb diameter you will need more line to fill the reel up. Or you can just use more backer line and less braid.
  3. Imoore, in my four tournament this season I had a similar problem. The boaters batteries die from running the trolling motor and electronics all day long. We tried to start the big motor about an hour before weight in and it wasn't happening. Switched batteries and it wasn't starting. Even tried to get a jump off another boat and nothing. We got towed in with less than 5 minutes to spare before our check in time.... but yea, it's definitely not a good feeling know your day's work is dependent on someone else's equipment.
  4. I personally own the 6'9 MH veritas and it's my favorite rod in my entire line up. I use it for spinnerbait, chatterbait, senko, texas rig, and pretty much anything I can think of while out fishing. it's kind of my utility infielder rod.
  5. Since I started this topic way back in Dec of last year, I thought I would give a quick update. I finished the BFL season inside the top 40 and I'm going to be going to the regionals. Anybody have a tip on Lake Seminole they would like to share?
  6. The Hog Hauler
  7. Fish BFLs and i know the first two tournaments were won and most of top ten were using it. Last two I haven't even tied it on a rod.
  8. Just sent you a message I would be interest
  9. Braid all the way... 8/30 pound on spinning, 12/50 pound on baitcaster. One except is rod I throw my a-rig on it's got 14/65 pound.
  10. I can only talk to Redfish and Speckled trout... I go down to the gulf in Mississippi redfishing and trout fishing once a year. The area I'm fishing is a marsh like with tall grass. The best bait to catch anything is a shrimp. if you want want to live bait the shrimp is first and a bull minnow or finger mullet would be second. If you perfer plastic then Gulp makes a shrimp that has a pretty good smell to it and works well until it drys up. D.O.A has a good shrimp lure as well. A single Colorado blade spinnerbait works in dirty water. Reds and Trout move with the tide and seasons. Summer they will be deeper and closer to ocean. Fall they will be more inland and in skinny water.
  11. I have a loving wife and two boys (4 years old and 7 months old). Seeing them smile when I come home from work is a better feeling than catching a big bass any day of the week.
  12. I use High Vis Yellow has a backing... that way I know how close I am to the backing when I'm casting. If i get to the point I can see the yellow really well on a cast I know it's getting close to time to change out the line.
  13. When fishing from the back of a boat I carry 5, usually 3 casting and 2 spinning, sometime 4 and 1 depending on what kind of pattern the boater is on. In my own boat I have all my rods in the locker but I still only pull out 5 at a time (or less), keeps me in the same frame of mind when tournament fishing from the back of a boat.
  14. Charlie Moore is just loud and his "fishing" show is hardly fishing at all. I like Ike when he isn't breaking stuff and/or too emotional, I think he knows his stuff. Not sure I have seen or heard that much from Ish to know if I like him or not.
  15. life too short to die fishing.
  16. Look up Auburn University Bass Club. I see you are in Arkansas you might be interested in fishing the Southern Collegiate Bass series.
  17. That's kind of funny. I started my season off EXACTLY like you. 30th in the first and zero in the second. Third I came in 9th and Fourth I was 38 ( lost two fish that would have put me in the money). I'm currently sitting in 37th overall with just the super regional to fish in September. But as long as I can maintain my position I will make the regional. Good luck on the home lake.
  18. how are you doing in the BFL's this year?
  19. I'm in a similar situation as you. I have my own boat and fish from it when I can but I'm also doing BFL this year. The method to my madness on organization has been kind of two fold. My co-angler bag holds 7 3600 size boxes and two small boxes. I have a clearwater crankbait box, dirty water crankbait box, a spinnerbait/chatterbait box, a jig box, senko box, lipless crankbait box, and a top water/jerkbait box. Two small boxes are one terminal tackle (hooks, weights, etc..) and finesse jig heads. These boxes are subset of my entire tackle, I basically took all my cranks and said which are the best (i.e. most useful) and put them in the two boxes by color. Then I did the same for spinner/chatterbaits, jigs, senkos, lipless, top water, and jerk baits. My leftover tackle is still organized and in it's place in the boat. When I get ready to fish from my boat I just grab my bag since it's my "good stuff" and throw it in the boat. Now I will reevaluate what actually goes to the tournament and I might switch out a box from the boat to bag depending on time of year and what I'm expecting to throw.
  20. This entire season I have thrown the A-rig on my 7 ft h verdict rod. I know you asked about vertias but there isn't a hugh difference IMO between the two. It has done the job but you would probably be happier with a longer rod. I have a 7'6" rod that I'm going to try out this weekend but it's a MH instead of the H. I haven't used it prior because it's a physically heavier rod than my verdict and when tossing the a-rig around all day it's gets to be a workout.
  21. I'm asking this question as a general rule not an absolute rule. If you are fishing lake with a larger population of spotted bass does it seem like a shakey head is more productive than a standard texas rig? While if you are fishing a lake with a larger population of large mouth bass that the texas rig is more productive than a shakey head?
  22. I have abu garcia vertias spinning rods and have had good luck with them personally.
  23. Never done a BASS touranment but I've had good impression with the FLW BFL so far this year.
  24. I'm in the Choo Choo, we have fished 3 already. 4th on is at the end of April but our two day tournament isn't until September. So a BIG break in the middle of summer. I learned a lot from zero. which was applied to the next tournament where I got lucky to finish 9th. I actually lost one fish that would have moved me up to 7th probably, he was at least half a pounder bigger than the one I brough to the scale. I learned to fish my strengths and not worry about the boater as much.... In the zero tournament I saw him get two on a lipless and I dropped my game plan and started slinging a lipless right next to him. I caught small fish he caught meausring fish... Good luck getting into the tournament. I know in my division the numbers are way down from the beginning, first tournament was 178, then 149, last one was 107.
