  1. From 28 its very simple. Make a left onto Germantown Rd (rt 118), and follow it all the way to the end and make a left onto N. Frederick Ave (rt 355). After a few miles you make a left onto West Old Baltimore Rd, and a little bit down that road you make a left into the park. The boat launch is right off the main park road I believe, off to the right after you pass the park office.
  2. Trailer wiring is stone simple. If you'd like, I can take a look at it for you/with you...I'm over in Germantown. The rain doesnt bother me much unless its pouring. As far as an inspector goes, I have no idea.
  3. I am liking the sound of this. Actually, I got a bit of info from the local Dick's manager...Sale on select fishing lures starts tomorrow, and the clearance lures are 75% off clearance price. brb clearing the shelves
  4. Well i guess the main reason I am asking is this. I have about 30-50 to spend on lures. Not sure if I should get an assortment of typical 3.99-4.99 cranks in assorted colors (which would get me a decent amount), 3-4 Live Target lures, 10-15 new jigs, a few bags of plastics....or an assortment of all combined. Originally I was thinking, okay...im gonna spend it all on 4-5 Live Targets, but then i was thinking wow I could get double the amount of KVD, Bomber, etc lures for the same price. Decisions, decisions. It wouldnt be hard if I had this opportunity often, but it is rare that I get some extra cash to put toward fishing.
  5. These lures look amazing on the shelf. Just curious as to what your thoughts are on them? Anyone had much success with them over any other hard baits? The baby bluegill caught my eye because it looks VERY real. I have a little cash to spend on tackle, deciding whether I should drop the 12-15/per on some Live Target lures, or get some regular stuff like KVD cranks for half the price.....or get myself a mid-range ($100) back-up combo.
  6. Actually yes, there was one more. I could pick it up tomorrow for like $89-99 depending on who is working. There was also a round Abu Garcia baitcaster, like a C3 or C4 that they offered to me for $24.....because the clicker wouldnt disengage and it was a year old model. Simple fix, and good price so I might go pick that up tomorrow and use it for my occasional catfishing trips.
  7. Went to my local shop to grab a few new lures and found myself at the reel cases. Clerk asks if I need help and I asked to look/drool over the curado they had in there, and right when he handed it to me I noticed an older model curado (last years?) on the bottom shelf. I asked and verified it was last year's model. After chatting a bit he offered it to me at a discounted price. I also had the intention of returning a rod that had started to crack. After the return, discount for old merchandise, and manager's discount I walked away with a shiny curado for under $30. I've been glowing all day lol
  8. Why not have two get-togethers? One oct 2011, and one spring 2012. I'm sure either way it is going to be hard to get everyone's schedules to align for one day whether it be fall or spring.
  9. Whenever I go out to the lake I see guys on shore with their rod, a bag of hooks and a box of night crawlers. I see them pull in bluegill every so often but most of the time the worm gets eaten off. This has never been my approach to fishing, unless i was actually out to catch buckets of bluegill. My tips are to get yourself a reel/rod with a good casting distance. Get some good plastics, and the appropriate hooks to rig them. Since you are fishing from shore, im sure you run into weeds a lot- so rig weedless. From shore i've been having good luck with senko worms and flukes. Cast out far, let them sink and slowly return them back to shore. As they hit the water, make your you keep an eye/feel on your line because a LOT of the time you'll get at least a small strike. Also, if the lake you fish has any decent spots for it, grab yourself a frog. The amount of strikes I get on a frog in grass patches is amazing.
  10. Well my main concern is that on a 30 ft cast, about 15 feet of that distance is shallow and full of weeds- only giving me about 10-15 feet of decent presentation and utilization of the cranks diving before they snag the weeds. As opposed to being in a boat and not having to worry (as much) about your cranks running through thick weeds on their retrieve and dive... I may be completely wrong here, as I am fairly new to using crankbaits, etc but it seems that the general vibe im getting is that any type of bait is appropriate if chosen and used appropriately based on the location.... On that note, I have been browsing hundreds of different crankbaits and find myself overwhelmed. Fat ones, thin ones, long bills, short bills, square bills.....i'm assuming some are just outright wrong for my situation. Any tips on what I should be looking for when it comes to cranks being used in my conditions?
  11. Perfect, so i'll be ordering some cranks and some more jigs then. I have about 50 to spend on an assortment for fall, so that should at least get me started. Got the plastics and frogs covered so now I have the confidence to order some hard baits and know they wont be wasted! Thanks a lot for your input.
  12. Great advice, thanks! I fish two lakes primarily. One is very heavily fished both from shore and by boat, and the bottom of the entire lake is weeds. There is good clarity here. The second lake is much smaller, and not heavily fished at all. The bottom is rocky (dirt/gravel type mix), and the clarity isnt great. I have never had a problem with weeds here, but I have also not had much luck with anything other than a weighted fluke or senko. I have tried two crankbaits here with zero luck, and that's what got me thinking if crankbaits, etc are efficient for bank fishing...and worth the investment to get an assortment of them while I have a little extra money.
  13. Alright, so im typically on foot along the bank of either a large lake or medium sided pond. I've been having decent luck with t-rigged senkos and flukes, with a slowww retrieve. I have a decent arsenal of plastics, but i'm looking to expand. So here is my question: Are other lures/baits effective when bank fishing? I'm looking to get a decent amount of crankbaits and jigs but im not sure if it'll be a waste of my money because of my lack of boat, and being on the bank- half of the distance of my cast is fairly shallow. Should I even attempt crankbaits? if so, any advice would be appreciated! nick
  14. Any of the montgomery county guys gonna be getting their boats in the water this week/weekend? im looking to get off the shore and into a boat as a rider, let me know if anyone would like some company!
  15. Hey guys, good to see things are coming together for the meet. I am still in....and any date will work for me. My boat status has not changed, and I am still looking to be a rider- if possible. I like the idea of finding a vacant pavillion, save the money and avoid losing the deposit. There's almost always empty areas there, and if nothing else I am sure most of us would be fine with just meeting out on the water!
  16. Hey MD crew, does anyone in the montgomery county/Germantown/Potomac area ever have much luck bank fishing at the Potomac River? Been a few times in the past month but havent had too much luck so i've been sticking to the lakes and ponds. I have Pennyfield, Rileys and a few other locks nearby....just curious to see any reports of these areas, if any.
  17. I'd be in for this. Am only about 10 minutes away so either/any day works for me. No boat but wouldnt turn down an offer to be a rider in someone elses
  18. Hey guys, My name is Nick. I wanted to say hello to the MD crew as I am from Germantown and often go out to little seneca/black hills, clopper lake and out to the potomac as much as I can. I usually go out solo but always look for a partner or crew to head out with for some company. Anyways, looks like a good group here and i'd be honored to meet any of you some time. I am also looking to get into tournament fishing in MD or along the northern east coast if anyone is looking for club members or tourney partners.
  19. Just yesterday I fished a small private pond with GREAT success. Had excellent luck by fallen branches and low overhanging trees. Mainly using flukes, but they got slammed the whole time I was there. Just a quick hours worth of fishing got me 7 nice fish ranging from 2-4 lbs, the bigger of which came from heavy cover.
  20. Don't give up, that's all I can really say. Try some new spots, try some new rigging and lures. I personally also havent got much in the past month but have been having the most luck around heavy weeds and cover with senkos, u-tails and flukes. Good luck bro.
