  1. Welcome from Leslie Co.!
  2. A lot my favorites have already been named. But that moment when you pull up to a ramp on a cool day in December or January, and there isn't one person out on the lake, that's pretty sweet.
  3. Take the advice of a pro angler with a grain of salt, they're usually just trying to hock stuff. There's some good in what he says, but a whole lot of salesmanship too.
  4. If I'm fishing, or anybody around me is, I'm always wearing sunglasses. Unless it's low light, then it's clear safety glasses. I don't take any chances when it comes to getting a hook in the eye, that's scary stuff.
  5. Welcome to the forum! Keep practicing with that jig, they'll catch em. Here's a couple videos on jig fishin': https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/how-to-fish-jig.html https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/football-jigs.html Good luck!
  6. Clear highland reservoir, pre spawn, hard jerkbait. That's my wheelhouse.
  7. My PB Smallouth and Largemouth both came on the same lure, Megabass Vision 110 in French Pearl. Who says they're overpriced?
  8. Just a couple years in the Air Force.
  9. I don't think I've been skunked this year, but I've come close several times. Just yesterday I caught one in the first 5 minutes, then not another fish the rest of the day, and I mean like 7 hours of fishing.
  10. I've seen that kind of situation on Norris many times. Unless they're actually blowing up on top, I don't mess with those fish. Like you, I've tried a variety of things to get those suspended fish, but rarely does anything work. Very interesting that you caught some while trolling spoons though, I've always considered those fish to be nearly uncatchable.
  11. Minn Kota definitely isn't building them like they used to IMO. I had an old one on my Tracker, that thing was build like a tank compared to the new edge I just bought. Hell, they didn't even tighten half the screws in my new one before they shipped it. I don't know if MG is any better, but I'm very disappointed with the way MK has gone downhill.
  12. Definitely the 110 for me. Pro blue, and French Pearl are my two favorite colors. I've never really liked the LC pointers much, in fact there are several jerkbaits I like better.
  13. Any of those commercials with Kate Upton.
  14. Well, this thread is nearly 5 years old, hopefully he's come up with a solution by now.
  15. Interesting question. Usually those tourneys where everyone is catching them are very close together weight wise, and you have lots of guys all doing the same things. So in my mind, winning largely comes down to luck. I think the tough tourneys generally take more skill. Then again, a tough tourney could be decided by one kicker bite, or maybe some random schooling fish.
  16. Very impressive collection. I own a Hvy Mono, and a Python too, I really wish I had a P210 like that though.
  17. Nice! I wish the lakes here had Alabama spots. 2 pounds or so are the biggest KY spots I run into around here, and those are rare.
  18. That's very low for my taste. Your reel will cast a lot better when the spool is filled properly.
  19. Clear Zara Spook, super subtle. Also, welcome to the forum!
  20. I'd pick up a few Luck-e-Strike STXs too, they're a little cheaper than the KVD, and I personally like them better.
  21. Catt is on the money, don't look at the pound test rating, just buy the diameter you want. Personally, all my casting reels get 50#, and my spinning reels get 20#. I don't like the way the thin diameter braids dig in on the spool of a casting reel.
  22. I don't like to fish a buzzbait on the same rod I fish poppers, and spooks on. I like a buzzbait on a 7' Fast or even X-fast MH stick. I like something shorter with a little slower taper, and maybe a little less power, for poppers/walkers. If it has to one of those two for both applications, I'd go with the Loomis, a glass mod. tapered rod will never be much of a buzzbait rod.
  23. They're kind of tricky to learn at first, but once you catch a few, it will really start to click. If you've got cool clear water, it's a bait you've got to learn to use. They'll work in warmer water too though, I've caught fish with them in 80 degree water.
  24. The Luck-e-Strike Rick Clunn STX is my favorite low budget hard jerkbait (only the 4.5" models though, the little models are lousy). Upgrading the trebles is a good idea, the stock ones aren't great. In case you haven't seen it, here's a good video on Jerkbaits: https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/jerkbait-fishing-cold-water.html
