A few smaller boats on craigslist, tis the season!!
I use a 7 foot med hvy to fish from shore in FL. live bait rig/bottom bouncer with live shrimp will catch every thing that swims, my suggestion try and use google earth to find a sand bar and fish off the back side of it, if you go to Miami Peacock and Snakehead!!!! Keep and eat the Snakeheads!
PS you can always wade out and cast and walk back to shore
Same as bass fishing!! They will eat spinnerbailts, curly tail grubs on a jig head, check out DOA lures website
Where are you staying?? I grew up in Central Florida maybe able to help even more.
Man that stinks!! Did he have the drag cranked down??
Shad or Shiners will work!! You maybe better off chasing bait balls at this point looking for the birds dive bombing and casting into the fray with a lip-less crank-bait or the A-rig.
May consider looking these post over I think he is in Dallas these days fishing north of there.

June 2012 fishing a tourny, was careless unhooking a white bass from rapala, tried for 10 minutes to push it through, no luck. Drove home, put boat away and let a professional cut it out!! My son laughed about it!!
Wild-caught baitfish may be used as live bait only within the common drainage where caught and shall not be transported upstream across any dam or barrier that prohibits the normal passage of fish. Bluegill and green sunfish collected from non-designated aquatic nuisance waters may be possessed or used as live bait anywhere in the state.
