  1. It happened to me once, I was using a baitcasting rod and got a birdsnest but the lure went like 5 yards into the water, once I got the tangle out I reeled it in and all the sudden I felt a fish on it, ended up catching a nice bass
  2. I dont own a boat so I am relegated to fishing the boat docks/ramps and shore fishing, but a lot of the ponds and lakes in my area are surrounded by houses and the access to the them is slim. The veggitation in the areas that I fish is underwater grass and reeds where if I throw out a sinking crank it will grab grass, even if it only sinks 3in-5in. There are some lilly pads around the boating ramps where ive used frogs with some success and texas rigged worms also to some success, but other than those two I havn't had much luck. Other spots I fish is just open water that I cast out in with no structure to it really, im not sure what the pond floor is made up of or the depth, but from what I can assume is its got a steady drop to it, with patches of grass, and the water is murkey. Any pointers on what I should do?
  3. I dont know much about the Rod and Reel because im still pretty new at bass fishing.I got my first baitcaster a week or so ago, at first all i would get was backlashes, after setting it down for a bit out of frustration i picked it back up put on a practice plug and went at it, took me maybe an hour or so to start to get the hang of it, but what i didnt realize is the timing of your thumb changes with each lure size/weight so you really have to concentrate like what zero said. Start out with small casts till you get comfortable with it and then once you are, you can start hurling it. You really got to concentrate though cause the timing of your thumb is the key to fishing for hours or sitting on the bed of your truck fixing those backlashes. Good Luck, and practice practice practice
  4. I find them useful, a lot of fish bite at them, i try mixing up the retrieve with it, sometimes a quick retrieve or slow and steady, stop and go or just giving it quick jerks, mess around with it and the fish will tell you what they like
  5. The Silver Lounge in Falmouth has some of the best chowder I've ever tasted.

  7. there are a couple small ponds in my area, I found that a jointed crankbait from rapala usually works for me or smaller minnow like crankbaits
  8. wow didnt realize how old this was
  9. Hey what you're going through sounds a lot like what i have been doing the past couple of days, i recently bought a pinnacle baitcaster because i saw a lot of pros using one. They made it look so easy that i didnt realize how frusturating it was to start out with on right after you get it (especially your first like me). I realized though that all it would take was practice, so i re-spooled my reel and started practicing, like what Guest_DavidGreen_* said, short at first and once i got comfortable with that i started casting longer distances. even though i keep getting backlash a lot its still a lot of fun so keep at it. Practice...Practice...Practice
  10. thanks for the advice everyone, i used the setup today and ended up catching 2 decent size bass 2-3lbs i guesstimate.
  11. thanks for the honesty, i guess I am just gonna have to use what i got and make it work
  12. So I decided to upgrade my rod and reel and I dont really know if i made the right decisions. A lil back ground, i got back into fishing big time this summer, got a begginer combo spinner reel and rod, lately i felt like it wasnt performing the way i wanted so i decided to upgrade, I purchased a Pinnacle Fishing Deadbolt pro RH Baitcasting reel and a Field and Stream IM6 7'Casting Rod because I have seen a lot of pro's on tv and online using baitcasting set ups so i wanted to try one. I fish from shore and am using mostly crank baits and sometimes a texas riged fake worm. so did I get a good set up for a novice fisherman?
  13. Hey everyone, just wanted to introduce my self, ive recently gotten really into bass fishing. I would go maybe once a year before but recently i ended up quiting football and needed something to occupy my time, I tried golf and other sports but nothing stuck like fishing so here i am. I'm still in college and go to school down in rhode island, but i live in northeastern MA. I'm excited to learn more about fishing and what not cause as of now im not that good and would like to get better. thanks, astaf
