  1. when in doubt go as long as possible. that said I would lean the 7'6 heavy duckett
  2. I miss outdoor channel's "Friday night fishing" I liked Thomas' show.
  3. yeap, get you a set of boca abec7s with a supertune and call it a day. total cost 50-70 bucks, some cheaper, some higher.
  4. just for the odd chance anyone is interested..... here is how I use my Dobyns. Not to hijack, but it would be nice to hear others chime in too.....then save the thread to your favorites then everyone has a good working knowledge of how others use their Dobyns. 733c- spinnerbait 3/8 and 1/2 12# FC 734c- spinnerbait 1/2 spinnerbaits, 1/2 swimjig, buzzbaits 15# FC 735c- not spooled up yet but will 3/4 big hammer 20# FC 704c- squarebills and jerkbaits #10 FC DX742 spinning- dropshot/shakyhead up to 1/4 #8FC DX742c- 3/16 shakeyhead and weighless senko #10FC DX743c- weightless senko and 1/4 tubes, trig, 1/4oz finesse jig #12FC DX744c- 3/8 football used as shakeyhead/tube or up to 3/8 Trig ragecraw, small 3-4in flutter spoon #15FC DX745c- Jigs 1/2- 3/4oz, big worms #20FC DX784cML- 5in flutter spoon, 1/2oz jig #20FC 805cbRm- bullshad #25yozuri 806hsb- hudd68, punker, ect #25 yozuri ones I want to add: DX746: for 1oz jigs and bighammers 804c: anything, I would use is as "catch all" rod anything I use a 4 power in above listed/ Carolina rig 806CB: more bullshad/ 1oz spinnerbaits (though I could use a rod already have) 795MLsb: swimbaiting, 1.5oz head ect ect as you can see if you read the listing on the blank and use it like that, the rod will be perfect ...... Except my bullshad rod, LMAO, I really do love how that 805cbrm throws it though. and might even get the new 806CB because of it...... I really don't worry about "total weight" I generally use the low end of the rating as my "head weight" and by the time you add trailer/worm you are in the low middle/dead middle of the range, which is where I love the Dobyns, other opinions may vary. I hope this helps someone, somewhere, sometime.
  5. I use the 734 for my swimjigs. 1/2oz stikeking heavywire hook with a ragetail grub or 4in big hammer. I think it fits and loads perfectly for mile cast. Most of my swimjiggin is done on long cast, little cover.........at worst I am casting past a laydown, but never thick stuff. I think the 735 will be just fine. I do show a bit of concern since you are a braid guy. If I was throwing a swim jig in lillypads most of the time then the 735 would be PERFECT. That's my opinion....since you say you like a heavier than most rod per technique then I am going to say the 735 is going to be perfect FOR YOU, which is what you are aiming at. I picked up a 735 last week too, I am planning on 3/4oz 5in big hammer work.
  6. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1 there is 12 pages of reading to help you out. I use Tatsu
  7. for a $100, I liked the carbonlite. I think the vertias is that range too, and a lot of guys like them. if you go used you could step up to a Duckett if you wanted.
  8. I like to stick with one company. it does make it easier when selecting a new rod as you are already familiar with the actions, powers, ect ect. also, I think it makes fishing easier too, like when you changing throughout the day. It almost feels like you really are not changing since you have everything balanced out from bait to bait since all the rods act the same given the chosen technique.
  9. if it is something like a trolling motor , price is king. if it is plastics or normal stuff, I'll shop anywhere I can get it when I want it.
  10. I have a general question about Wilson....... being that it is "only" 15 miles long it would seem easier to cover water, and if the fish were "patternable" to set up a decent milk run? does this hold true? also it is seemingly a deeper impoundment too, if that is true then does is also make it more or a sopt on a spot lake? lastly, how does this compare to pickwick, I would assume it is still the clearer, rock bottom, current related TN River type lake, no? if you fish both(Wilson, pickwick) do you think patterns interchange between the two lakes? (within reason) feel free to answer here if you are comfortable....but don't give anything away. Don't want the fishing information trolls to get anything good, Ha ha....always someone looking on the internet. or you could PM me.
  11. I'm ready for epic, EH!
  12. http://youtu.be/-tStRwXJo0Y
  13. yes below the dam on the Pickwick side if memory serves. There are several youtube vids on that "alabama charge" Bighead, you rememeber last year we had an everstart tournament going on during the road trip... the Surret brothers finished 2nd and 3rd they both locked through to wilson everyday and caught 25# +/- everyday for the 3 day event.
  14. If the 80's taught us anything......Sheena was a MAN!
  15. Arv as far as the extra length goes, the only 7 foot rod I have is a 704CB squarebill rod all my others are 73X or 74X. I think the advantages of the extra length far outweigh the drawbacks. Of course, if you are going to be doing a bunch of verticle fishing then the extra length might hurt you.
  16. I love my Dx742s I have both spinning and casting. IMO the 742casting is THE shakeyhead rod IMO. I throw a bunch of 3/16 or 1/4 shaky + worm. I used to throw a bunch of 1/4 or less dropshot on the 742 spinning, I havnt used it much for shakeyheads but will more going into next year. point is the 742 or 702 platforms from dobyns are great shakeyhead rods
  17. I was at my parents house the other day and it was jaws on the floor.... I said, " Daddy I had it when we rode together to sell my boat. " He said, " not like THAT!" lol
  18. good for you. I could always quit dipping, it was easy for me...... but I cant for the life of me quit smoking. One day as silly as it sounds, I will WANT to.
  19. EH OHHHHHHHHHH!
  20. not enough words to describe.
  21. yall two kids don't get too crazy tonight! Congrats indeed.
  22. I sure aint making look smaller....... this topic always seems to get somewhat heated, I'll sit back and enjoy the show.
  23. if I cant shop naked, I rarely buy it. HA! thanks for the link though. My luck even still is I don't have a cabela around.
  24. I just got my stocking stuffer pack today to check out Mike's work. I admit I have not up to this point purchased anything from Siebert. I wanted to check out some colors to see how if they matched or could be matched to my current jigs. Upon opening the jigs up the packaging was nice, but when looking at the jigs I was really impressed. I consider myself a pretty decent jig guy, and I am way way picky about stuff, to a fault. I was really amazed at these jigs. I know its just jigs, some would say. But there is just something different about these. The dredge head is awesome, a football that actaully will stand up. the skirts look like they will have just the right amount of flare, being the head will stand up. I think where and how they are tied has something to do with too, it just different, not something I can totally explain. The owner deep throat, as always, is unreal. Hands down the best jig hook out there. This is without doubt the best jig I have held in my hand ........I have searched near and far to find something that I dont question at first glance. I do believe the Siebert jigs are that. The ONLY thing I can find, and its only because I am " Jig Bipolar" is I prefer a black head on a black and blue jig instead of a blue head..... but like I said thats just me being over anal, and thinking WAYYYY too much about it. If you are looking for a jig maker or simply want to try jigs.... Siebert is your guy, I know he's mine.
  25. snook has the right idea.... if you got the cash and want to spend it, it is worth it. that said, I WANT ONE BAD!
