  1. if it is anything like state golf course rankings...... local comber of commerce money goes a long way... also designer name on the national level, but lakes don't designers lol that is probably what is meant by "politics"
  2. http://www.flwoutdoors.com/fishing-articles/tips-and-techniques/154618/fishing-the-moment/#.UzieuWIo5jo
  3. examples? I don't guess have noticed, of course I been blessed to have figured out exactly what I like and can afford it... or want it bad enough where I make myself afford it, LOL but something says I liked it more when I only had one BPS Carbonlite combo.
  4. nature suppose to be natural.....
  5. ok..... I got a few minutes to type, so lets go...... Ledges: I been trying to piece it together over the last year.......... and will for the next 20! there are certain factors and things to look for. Ledges can be point related, channel related, bluff related, current related.......... or any combination of the 4, and even more. A ledge is simple in theory...... it is a drop, could be 1 foot or a shear 10 foot or more drop. 1. in the morning many times the fish move up on top or to the shallow side, in the afternoon move deeper. 2. current is also a big positioner, it can make them move on top, push them to the bottom(see FLukes vid) or even suspend 3. clouds/wind will generally put fish more on top to feed, bright sun and slick will generally push them deep to the side or suspend 4. if there is current throw your bait up current and let the current produce a natural presentation those are some very loose fitting general rules to ledge fishing........ always fish the entire ledge top to bottom, from different angles, even different times of day. every ledge has a sweetspot find it and load the boat. Ledge fishing/offshore fishing is a life long endeavor........ Mark Rose, Randy Hanyes are two of the best, read everything they say or print, there are more but those two really stick out in my mind.
  6. Jb- I don't want you to think this is directed at you because I agree with what you just posted. It is your post brings up an excellent point and I question that I have. all the ardent technique specific non believers all say: "I don't have to fall prey to marketing, all I need is X'x M, X'x mh, X'x H, and a spinning rod" well..... by using four different rods, you ARE using technique specific gear!!!
  7. check page 14........ we talk about it some there, whether to be long or short. I like mine "short", not that it is really short.... as long as the claws are not impeded or buried in the skirt its all good..... A lot of guys trim their shirt which will make it look longer, but I don't trim mine. but I do bite the back two sections of a rage craw off some guys will let it hang almost 2 inches below the skirt...... neither is wrong. it is a personal preference, and confidence thing too. good luck progressing your jig fishing! We are here to help so fire the questions away.
  8. a set of frog togs with bibs. very hard to beat for the money
  9. "different powers of course" ?????? Snook, having different powers is what makes it technique specific, no????? take my Dobyns dx 742...... I can throw a weightless senko, shakyhead, or dropshot on it...... but I call it my shakyhead rod..... I don't understand yall's beef with a rod like that.
  10. some of yall are YOUNG!!! so lets go classic icons.... DALLAS Fall Guy Knight Rider Miami Vice A-Team those are entrenched in childhood memories..... laying in bed hearing those theme songs of the shows my parents were watching. Good Times!!
  11. I rememebr the story from Bull Shoals a few years ago...... the pros were wearing a bill off in a days fishing because the fish wanted a crank grinding on the bottom.... if it wasnt grinding they werent biting. granted, that is an EXTREME set of events. I do agree and think for 10-20 foot you need probably 4 to really cover the column.... you might be able to get away with 3, but I am looking for 4 for my personal needs.
  12. that is a good read Glenn........... but I have to disagree with the 30/30 rule explained in the article. If I SEE lightening, I am gone and aint gonna count to 1 much less 30 lol!!
  13. looking at the pictures in the link, I am shocked at the amount of disrespect in the comments section.
  14. lazz- http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/133367-pb-j-jig-trailer/ the above link is a thread where I posted a few pics of trailers on jigs, so it should give you a point of reference. also, there is a "pinned" thread on the top of this forum section call "jig fishing questions".... it is 15 pages long, great info there and also has some pictues scattered about of some different trailers.
  15. I use Rage Craws, and for jig trailers I bite the last two sections off...... I do this one because it makes a perfect jig trailer and two so I don't have to buy craws and chunks. I also use Zoom Super Chunks. I cant remember if the Paca Craws have a solid or hollow body.... if they are solid just get the full size one and bite it down to size.... If they are hollow, then you pretty much will have to buy the paca chunks
  16. luck- e- strike is another great cheap brand..... designed by Rick CLunn himself
  17. I think in the DTs helsiki shad is a must....... strike king is chartruse sexy and citrus shad. also 6th sense 250s and 300s are great looking cranks to check out and they get really good reviews. I am going to try a few of those too, and they are in your price range.
  18. that's what I am planning on, I cant wait. while we are talking about brand do yall want to talk about color too? (not wanting to hijack) I will keep it very basic.... 2 colors for me personally, anymore and its too much thinking
  19. I am progressing into the cranking too.... I will be throwing dt10, 12, 14 along with 5xd and 6xd the only time I have really broken a DT series is when I am slapping the water getting grass off.
  20. 3 powers are awesome 3/8 and 1/2 spinnerbaits rods, more a 3/8th spiinerbait IMO 4 powers are awesome 1/2 spinnerbait rod.... I dont have any 3/4 spinnerbaits or I would tie one on and try it for you. for the big worms you described I have to say a 735 ... 1/2 weight plus a big 10in worm is a good chunk.... thats my opinion but I dont throw much 10in worms.. I do plan to this summer though. sorry cant be more help.
  21. i went through this thread thinking why are people throwing a 1/2oz football on a 734.... so I had to go outside and tie one up with trailer and I have to say, it is correct. I haven't fished a 1/2oz jig on a champ series in a while, the 784ML(almost XF tip) is my 1/2oz jig rod or a 745...... so I stand corrected. the 734 champ is a fine 1/2oz jig rod 3/4oz I still prefer a 5 power...... and if a guy is going to throw 1/2 and 3/4 only I still get a 735. I only like a tip for casting, working a bait I just want the tip to quiver, not bend...if that makes sence. owning all the powers gives a guy choices too. it just goes to show..... we all have our likes and preferecnes even with in the same line up.
  22. Pigslayer explained , along with myself fish more open type water... there is some grass and some wood, but not thick to make you think you need to up power your rods. unless you are fishing tight quarters, dodging tree limbs, ect ect always go with the longer rod, IMO only my squarbill rod is 7 foot, everything else is 73x, or 74x. especially when you get into worm/jig fishing the extra lenght helps on hookset, controlling/moving the fish, and keeping a fish pinned. you are talking BIG spinnerbait and texas rigs....what are you calling BIG?
  23. techniuqe specific to me is having a favorite rod for each bait type you throw. I like it, because all I have to do is pick up another rod, instead of retieing. that, and I cant throw a 2oz swimbait on my shakyhead rod.
