  1. Anther guy from the burgh.I fish the rivers and the waters to the north(Arthur, Shenago ,wilhelm, pymatuming, and woodcock).LOts of us out here.
  2. Fishing Hot Spots the map makers have a book publishedcalledCatch Fish with Maps by Robert Knops I find it useful.Good Luck.
  3. I have a question about fishing in cold water(I live in PA) and strong winds. Im looking for a technique to help me when the wind picks up and the bite is slow.I will often tie on a finese bait like a tube , grub or finese worm. The problem comes in when I use spinning tackle. The line starts to bow in the wind and its difficult to keep feel of the bait. Rather then packing it in I would like to know how some of you other guys deal wth these tough conditions. What rigs or other boating equipment you may use to scratch out some fish.Seems that I experience these conditions several times a year.I fish out of a 17 ft g3 aluminum boat or a 14 ft alum. depending on the lake Im fishing .Any help would be appreciated. :-/ :-/
  4. I always unplug the lights even water proof systems can fail.
  5. Both minnkota and motorguide have instructions on how to measure for proper shaft length. You measure from the top of your boat to the water level. You want the prop to be at least 12 inches under water when running so keep that in mind when buying. You also want to get more thrust then you think you need. When fishing in current you may want to move against it at some point.Your gonna need alot of thrust to push your boat in high heavy water.I have two 12 volt motors on my boats.I wanted to switch to a 24 volt system on my 17ft g3 but the wiring in the boat wasnt large enough to carry the current.Keep this in mind when buying as well.If your replacing a bowmount make sure you have the corrrect gauge wire to carry a 24 volt system. If its trasom mount you should be able to wire it correctly with no problem.Any manufactorer will be able to tell you the gauge of the wire needed.24 volt systems require two batteries to run and I believe they need three wires.Im not sure about that, someone correct me please if I have given wrong information.good luck!
  6. Yankee bassman Im taking your advice and going for the pressure test.thanks for the help.
  7. I went through this 2 years ago before I purchased my boat.Im real finicky so I wanted to know that I could fit it in before I bought it.Remember to measure wheel to wheel on the trailer and tip of tounge to back of prop. You will have to decide if you need to store motor up or down. The dealer otor you could do this before you purchase.Good luck.
  8. I agree with your caution.I dont have a ton of experience working on outboards but all the research Ihave done says the most abuse engines take is the folks dont let them warm up before letting them rip.
  9. thanks guys I spoke with a yamaha dealer and described the situation that i have.he asked if any water was in the lower unit.i didnt see any come out.he also said that the oil will emulsify without water in the unit due to the churning oil.he suggested running the motor some morethen sticking something in the oil levelcheck to see what the color looks like. the motor sat for three months since its last use.
  10. sounds like i have some work to do .I origanally had problems with this motor in the carbs.out of the factory never even had 10 hours on it.yamaha extended the warranty on the motor so i'll let a dealer handle this for now .but i do have the service manual for the motor. kinda frustrated with this motor. like i said in the firstpost i noticed a leak out of the input srew not even after using it three times.thanks for the advice.
  11. Hey i need some advice on my lower unit.I have a yamaha 70 horse power motor .I was changing the lower unit oil today and the oil came out like the color of coffee.the first few drops came out gray and the rest like the oil was fairly clean.I change it every fall when I stop fishing. The first year I had it I noticed that oil was leaking out of input hole.I changed it then added new seals on the screws. Now this year I see this.I wondering if this is normal or do I have water in the lower unit? If so what next?Would the water come out first pure or puddle separatley?Any and all advice would be appreciated.
  12. i purchased a g3 silver eagle 2 years ago and love it.the boat is 17 feet long with 70hp yamaha.I never owned a fiberglass boat but im told they are a dryer ride.my g3 is lite enough for me to push it into my garage myself. the storage is great and so is the ride.good luck
