  1. The reel you have is fine IMO, you can always reel a bit faster if need be and slow it down to slow roll. If you want a higher speed reel for other techniques then it may be a justified purchase because if you don't like it for spinners, you can still use it for other things. If you chose to try burning a bait with a 5 you will be cranking your arm off if you are trying to fish a spinner just under the surface. As the others said, it depends how you fish and what you fish. For them that ratio fits their needs. As far as line, try them and see what you like...Ive taken some advice with line and it didn't work out for me.I will say it again, see what you like. Some people prefer mono over braid and fluoro with spinnerbaits, Im fine with using anything that on my reel. Ive been throwing them on braid or yo-zuri hybrid mostly, but I also have thrown them on mono. I actually stripped all fluoro off due to one spool breaking on my reel and another brand making me lose a huge bass at the shore(knot broke). Yo-Zuri is a better fit for me than pure fluoro, plus its cheap.
  2. Quite a few of us from Palm Beach...so much unity in here...Im getting teary eyed
  3. sonny dropped a review recently
  4. I got the rust off now and things are back on track. I prefer the hooking them the alternate way. The hook slides out of the belly and my hook up ratio is much better. Lastly I can catch tons of fish on the same fluke and it doesn't tear up. I caught 6 yesterday in about 30 minutes using it like a top water bait not really letting it fall. That seems to be the key where Im fishing. The fluke looks almost perfect in terms of damage...so little of it.
  5. People on here always said they sucked and had dull hooks but I have caught many fish on the ones I have...more so that the booyah boogie which people said were superior. I got a frog color on clearance but havent caught anything on it yet...I ended up melting the trailers...I always forget not to mix them with regular worms
  6. Been spooled by ducks a few times in flight. I've learned to drop my rod tip the the ground asap.
  7. They have basically added new lefties to ...almost..... their whole line up now from what I see, many in 7:1 instead of 6 ratio which they were before.
  8. catching>>not catching ...when it comes to fish colds and diseases is another story
  9. I have one spool of regular 12#. I will tell you it is strong. I got snagged 2x between rocks and it took me a good while before being able to break it off at the knot. I haven't put any conditioner on it. Ill try that to see how much of a difference it makes in the line but its been pretty good for me out of the box.
  10. My buddy has a 4000 model. Its excellent. He bought it for inshore/boat fishing but uses it for fresh water also. Very smooth
  11. I'm not educated enough in the internal dept or in fishing years to even answer that. I believe it was stated why someone would want that in another thread or video if Im not mistaken edit, says you feel the bait better with it, adds sensitivity
  12. I think they come out on the 21st of this month on most sites From *** Lew's BB1 Speed Spool Review There are certain niche fishing products introduced that not only stand the test of time but over time become cult classics. Especially when they become scarce after being discontinued or changed radically and generally not for the better. The Original Wiggle Wart comes to mind as does the Original P70 Rebel Pop-R. In fishing reels there have been cult followings among bass fishing anglers like the old green Curados and of course the Lew's BB1 and BB1N. The BB1 quickly became a staple among bass fishing guys who loved to throw deep-diving crankbaits. When the production moved to Ryobi, the reel changed to the BB1N before the company finally shut its doors. When that happened, the original BB1 and BB1N Speed Spools were the hot classic reel to own and guys began to horde them. A whole new market opened for guys that could repair them and for parts and accessories for the olds reels. So what was it about those old reels that drove guys nuts trying to find them after they were gone? For one the reel took up 21-inches per reel handle turn. That's what many designers have called the sweet spot for making a good crankbait reel. It had a great low gear ratio at 4.9:1 which gave it a ton of torque to make winding deep plugs less of a fatiguing battle. The reel guide was extended and further from the spool than most other conventional baitcasters and this gave the reel unparalleled casting distance. The last attribute and maybe it's most important was that it did not have instant anti reverse but rather a multi-stop reverse. Many famous crankbaiters have said that enables them to actually feel every sway, wobble and wiggle of their crankbait. It's actually transmitted from the line into the reel in the palm of your hand. It had everything a crankbait angler would want in a reel. Fast forward some 20 years and Lew's proudly presented the new Lew's BB1 Speed Spool in 6 models at the 2012 ICAST Show in Orlando for the 2013 fishing season. Guys have been clamoring for Lew's to remake the BB1 ever since the brand reappeared on the market under new ownership two years ago. But the thing is with technology and design, old products are never just re-released, they are further enhanced using the advancements in materials and technology. The new reels, therefore, have not only several of the features that made the original so good, but also new enhancements like 4-Pin Centrifugal Brake System (CBS), forged aluminum double anodized spool, big oversized titanium line guide, low profile design, swept handles, clickable drag and tension and more. But the reels take up the 21 inches on the 5:1 models, feature multi-stop anti reverse on the low gear ratios, feature an extended line guide for greater distance casting and the big paddles on the handle. The results is a reel that sounds like it could supplant the original as the greatest crankbait reel. Of course we take every claim in fishing tackle with a grain of salt anymore. So we were pretty anxious to get the reel on the water and see what it could do. The casting on the reel is beautiful and powerful. It took a little bit to get used to how it casts and how to set the pins on the 4-pin smart CBS. It's accessed under the left side plate by pulling the pin that you would normally unscrew. That tension pin makes changing up in the wind and such pretty easy without worrying about losing a screw or something on a windy day. Once we had the brakes set for our personal taste (1 pin engaged), we took to some casting. First we cast a 7/16 ounce weight with a plastic and could fire the bait what seemed like a mile. In all honesty we're thinking probably 50 yards, but that was in a stiff wind with a just a wrist flick. A full on bombing cast with a big crankbait was the next test. We fired several big plugs to the deep ends of some secondary points and we were amazed at how well we could cast across the point and feel the plug's deflection was increased because of the ability to get the bait a little deeper on such long casts. While some pretty lofty claims are being made on how far it will cast. We plan to do some street measurements in the next week to verify the ability of the reel. But we can say we feel like we are getting greater distance on average than many of our other reels. It's a fun reel to fish when you feel like you can bomb long casts and cover a little more water on every cast. I had a few fish on the reel and feel like the drag was as smooth as anything on the market and easy to adjust in the midst of a battle with a hard fighting fish. The reel feels solid and performs solid from cast to landing a bass. Most of the time we kept the tension on just enough so that our lure would fall and hit the floor and not spin more and backlash. Opening it up a little wider with less tension gave us greater distance but some inconsistencies on how well it spooled off the reel. So it will take a bit of time to get the thumb trained when running the reel a little hotter so to speak. Paired on aLew's Speed Stick crankbait rod and 10 pound monofilament line, the reel cast extremely well, retrieved well and landed fish with a smooth even drag. The reel is going to retail for $159.99. It will come in six models ranging from 5:1 up to 7.1:1 in gear ratio and from 21 inches per turn up to 31 inches per turn with three models being right handed and three models being left handed. I have one of the reels now and I love it. I'm anxious for the bass to get on a deep cranking bite again already and will also experiment more with square bills and even lipless baits with it. But at $159.99 I consider this reel to be a heck of a good deal for anglers.
  13. I'm interested in hearing more about this reel. The price point isnt bad at all and for something that can throw light baits. Hopefully its built like a tank.
  14. You win, I tap out. I'm not even getting into an dirt shoveling match about reels because I could really care less what anyone fishes with,,,Im fine using graphite/plasticreels...its just a matter of logic and integrity in what is said to people..
  15. Your posting is comedic....The way you can spin a cheap plastic part into something durable that wont break and a strong metal/carbon ergonomic handle into mass produced trash. Hilarious @TNBassin...I dont thing they will ever change the design, but either way, the handle can be replaced with something more favorable if you wish, something that suites your fishing style best.
  16. we started about 7:30...you can hit the pillaged spots, the key is to pillage the areas before the other pillagers get there....they will then be the skunkee because you picked it clean before they arrived
  17. Thanks@ capt shane...the pic of Corey's fish were crazy mg4u2nv if the weather is the same, it should be good for you because it wasnt super hot and we caught a bunch of good sized ones My second largest of that day counting the one that broke off and I had to fight it from across the lake on a full cast that just barely made it to the bank
  18. Not sure if anyone went out on Saturday but they were chomping like crazy. I had a possible personal best break off from me trying to horse it up onto the shore and rocks cut the line. Ended up catching another that was about 36 inches and 5 in total. My buddy caught 6 and lost 4 before noon. This was just hitting up spots on foot/car I lost my Koppers frogs hook on the break off and put on a tropical white popping spro. I noticed many snakes waked up to it, inspected it and turned away. The ones that I did catch on this tropical spro were ones that hit it once it based on territorial violation or couldnt see it well from muck. They are much smarter than people may think.
  19. Thanks for the advice fellas
  20. 7 inch purple has worked well for me, more so my dad who is failry new to bass fishing had the most success with the purple 7 inch worms I gave him a few of. He always sounds like al bundy with the I caught 7 fish in 15 minutes line
  21. I haven't used them exclusively in a long time until recently. I've been getting good results keeping them at the surface, twitching them and reeling, like a top water plug. It seems like its been working pretty well so far since the bass have been chasing bait fish. I was missing many fish due to my hook choice. Which hook do you use for the zoom fluke, the one with the belly slit. I got great results near my home lake wacky rigging on wacky hooks but there's a lot of slop here where I have been fishing. I have 3/0 4/0 5/0 ewg hooks and 3/0 worm hooks what I notice is that on the regular worm hooks, there isnt much space btween the body of the fluke and the tip of the hook to get a great hookup my ewg hooks the tip tends to point down into the direction of the body instead of being parallel with it when all the way exposed. I think I used to use straight shank hooks but its been so long I dont remember since I have always been wacky rigging. I know I could have probably googled my answer but I wanted to hear some advice/techniques/tips you guys use. Thanks
  22. their cranking veritas, they also have a cranking revo reel under the same name and made the rod to match....the ultimate setup for abu fans...dd22 =
  23. smh@ some of the replies knowing bps they may just swap it out for you without any problems
  24. if this topic touched someones nerve id believe they have some deep rooted issues..I doubt it did Im sure you can find someone with a lh reel you know that would allow you to try it out and see if its for you before you buy one
  25. That looks sexy, the Mrs. may have to sleep on the floor next to the dog,
