I used sexy shad but maybe try some fire tigers or something bright to have some variety. The red eye shad should annoy them also buzzing by or being yoyo'd. I used the gold color with great success. The water there is pretty blue/clear so it should reflect well and visibility should be great. I know my friend was killing some on x raps in white/ghost minnow but that was in miami.
The small jigs I used were in lime green and the hooks are so small that the fish inhale the whole thing. Ive also picked up some smaller peas on rooster tails and spinner baits, the 1 dollar walmart variety in 1/4 oz.
I may try to hit some pea spots tomorrow or sunday myself.
I've caught peas at the same park on kvd 1.5s and kvd sexy dawg top waters. I would hittem with some traps and red eyed shads. Ive been catching peas elsewhere on them. You may also want to try small jigs you get from walmart that look like flys or buy some live bait. Theres a bait and tackle store down the street you can get live bait from if needed.
I don't even know what Id use mono for anymore. Last time I got hung up on something my lure came back at me like a sling shot. I just want to buy some fluorescent green mono because its so bright and pretty.
Depending on the area...I'll get lures stuck in trees or on other structure and get them back with 50-65, sometimes that will even break off if bad enough but I usually get them back 98% of the time.
That's the fascination, the fight. Let's be honest, we all love catching fish but a bass is easily reeled in unless on light tackle unless it's stuck in vegetation.
I agree with you about holding off driving so far unless he knows a spot that's holding fish and big fish to make it worthwhile.
The lipless crank seems to be the choice of fish recently. Bass, peas and snakes all have been hitting them in the same areas. Pretty fun fighting a snakehead on 12lb yozuri with loose drag. Been having more accidental snakehead success than when I go hunting for them. The peas have been aggressive for sure.
The hooks are definitely a weak point on this bait. I had peackcock bass straighten them out yesterday without a overly tight drag. Great to know for replacing if needed.
Congrats, give us a write up asap. Let us know about the the unrivaled sensitivity.
I soon will be part of the NRX gang (895), Im treating myself to the excellence I read about.
