  1. Nope I use my saltwater reels in freshwater.
  2. I think spinning is better for shore fishing. It's much easier to cast and manage around trees and bushes. But that's my opinion.
  3. I assumed it was a crankbait since he wanted a crankbait rod, my mistake.
  4. Saltwater reels are made of anti-corrosive material so the salt doesn't rust them out. You can use your freshwater reel but you have to rinse out all the saltwater.
  5. Either grab the line and lift it or get a fish gripping device.
  6. He only has one rod though for cranks and jerks.
  7. I fish almost everyday and lately all I get are dinks. But her first bass is this?
  8. Why not just say 10 pound since he wants to use it for both.
  9. I'd get a Shimano Sahara and a maybe a Berkley Cherrywood. It's just over $100 if that's what you were thinking. I have that setup for my light spinner baits and jigs. Not the best setup in the world but it gets the job done and is reliable. As far as line goes 6-12 lb Trilene XT will do.
  10. It's the carp spawn most likely. The females roll to squeeze the eggs out. If you reel in some weeds and see little maroon dots, those are carp eggs.
  11. I bought one at BPS today, hope it brings in some hogs!
  12. Sorry I've never used a swimbait like that so I didn't know.
  13. Seaguar is great line. It's a little pricey but I'm happy with my InvisX. I'd go for 10 or 12 lb test. IF you are getting the PQ Reel then be sure to get either the 5.2:1 or 4.7:1 gear ratio. I'd get the Shimano Crucial while they are on sale right now or the St. Croix Premier.
  14. Yo Zuri Hybrid. You won't regret it I have it on my Crankbait setup.
  15. Great reel but I don't know about the rod. I would recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid line. I like the camo green color but it's personal preference. As far as making it better you don't need much better than that for your first baitcaster. My current line-up is all Shimano Reels and BPS Rods and I couldn't be happier. They are all around $200. I have the BPS Extreme Rods and they are awesome. Yo don't need top of the line stuff to be a good fisherman.
  16. You have to punch the mat. You can use a jig like these.
  17. I was holding an old lure kind of examining it while sitting on my couch and it slipped and the one hook on it went right into my thigh. Luckily I just pulled it out with zero pain.
  18. Alright, I'll be sure to check out the Premier and Compre when I make a trip to BPS this month.
  19. Should I wait for the new compre or is the old one better? I am a fan of cork grips and the new one seems to have eva grip.
  20. Nice!!! Good luck fishin!
  21. I haven't been doing as well on purple as green pumpkin but purple willl work good in stained water, for clear water I'd go with a more natural color. JMO
  22. That looks great! Thanks I'll check them out next time I'm at BPS.
  23. Mustad Ultra Point 6/0 Wide Gap Hooks. These hooks are the best!
  24. So am I but it is pushing other threads to the bottom and people don't like to see the same old threads everyday.
  25. I bought a Ardent C400 reel off a guy who used it for two tournaments and it is in great condition. I paid him $80 and they go for $150 new. I'm using it for crankbaits and it's the one with the 5.0:1 gear ratio. While I'm at it which rod would you recommend for it between a St Croix Mojo Glass Crankbait Rod, Shimano Compre Crankbait Rod, Castaway Go 2 Crankin Rod, or an Abu Garcia Vendetta Rod? They are all within my optimal price range of $100.
