  1. I hear ya
  2. Yeah, if you are conscious about the Vision 110's price tag they are a great substitute. Same with the Luck E Strike RC Square Bills, they are almost equal to the discontinued Lucky Craft RC's.
  3. The action isn't exactly the same as Megabass but I'd say you would only catch 15% less fish compared to the megabass vision and at that price difference it is definitely worth it for the casual fisherman, but for tournaments I will be using the Megabass Vision 110 over it for sure.
  4. Shimano and Lew's are great! I haven't used a Duckett but Dobyns makes nice rods. I'd go with the Curado 200E7 and the Dobyns Savvy SS703C myself though.
  5. I'm not sure what price range you were looking for but here are some combos that might work for him in different price ranges. I am a Shimano guy myself so my combos may be a bit biased. Under $100 Baitcast: Abu Garcia Black Max Reel $49.99 and an Abu Garcia Vengeance 6'6" Mh Fast $49.99 Under $100 Spinning: Pflueger Trion Gx-7 Spinning Reel $39.99 and a Shimano Sellus 6'8" M $49.99 $100-$150 Baitcast: Shimano Caius Reel $69.99 and a Shimano Clarus 6'8" Mh Fast $79.99 $100-$150 Spinning: Shimano Sahara Reel $79.99 and a Shimano Clarus 6'8" M Fast $79.99 (Actually $160 Total) $150-$200 Baitcast: Lew's Speed Spool 6.4:1 $89.99 and a Shimano Compre, Powell Max, or St. Croix Premier $150-$200 Spinning: Pflueger Sumpreme MGX Reel $99.99 and a Compre, Powell Max, or Premier Hope this helped you. Shimano is always a good way to go, never had a problem with their products. If you were looking to spend more than this, then I suggest you get the specifics on what he wants. Good Luck!
  6. There is one on the flea market for $110.
  7. I figure I'll use these for dropshotting on the Detroit River for smallies.
  8. X2 on the premier, Avid is a great rod as well.
  9. I am going to be fishing the BFL tourney on the Detroit River this upcoming summer as a co-angler. This will be my first time fishing a tournament. (just reached the age requirement of 16 or older) I plan on fishing the river up until the tournament and was wondering what works and what doesn't in general. I've heard tubes and dropshots are good and I assume it's mainly all smallmouth bass.(Never caught one before since it is all LMB in my local lakes)
  10. I think that is a good idea. It won't be the most active forum but will be more active than some of the forums on here.
  11. I went spearfishing in a lake full of carp and shot a 40 pounder and I thought it was going to drown me. (Keep in mind im 5'7" and 115lbs)
  12. Cheaper than the regular version too! You almost never see that. (Only 5 cents cheaper LOL)
  13. Holy crap! What a fish, I bet it felt like you snagged a submarine.
  14. Another weird thing I snagged was a case of tide. I am not sure how but my lure got inside the opening of it and I reeled it all the way to the boat.
  15. Yep, someone left it out too long I guess and the water melted.
  16. What is the worst thing you snagged while fishing? Whether it was hard to get your lure out or just a usual object to snag. Mine was a sunken shanty while dropshotting with an ultra-light spinning rod.
  17. Rod: 8.5/10 Great Value Reel: 8.5/10 Great Value Line: 7/10 Not a fan of Sufix Mine: Shimano Chormica Carrot Stix Gold Seaguar InvisX
  18. Wow, very cool. They sure do thrive on customer satisfaction. What reel did you get?
  19. All my baitcasters are 6'6". I love that length and MH is a great all around rod. I own the St. Croix Premier 6'6" MH Fast 1 piece and it is a awesome rod. It is sensitive, nicely priced, and durable. I have a Daiwa Viento with 12 lb. P-line Cx on it and it has been a good for squarebill, spinnerbait, jig, t-rig, swimbait, and the occasional topwater rod. I don't flip or pitch often so I can't comment on that. The 7'0" H is a bit big for everything except flipping and swimbaits. The cabela's rods are okay but I wouldn't compare them to the st croix. The Magtouch rod mentioned has no rear grip which I find anoying as I own the spinning rod, tricky to hold especially when fighting a fish with wet hands let alone trying to pull him into the boat.
  20. Or could be the Rebel RedNeck Lizard. Only picture I could find. http://www.ebay.com/itm/REBEL-Redneck-Color-C-Lector-soft-bait-plastic-lizard-/110744320944
  21. It's a Rebel Ringnecked Lizard. But good luck finding anymore of them since they were made right around 1985 and are no longer in production.
  22. Have you tried KVD Line & Lure conditioner? It could help and isn't expensive. Those are very nice lines and shouldn't encounter problems like that.
