  1. Thank you all for the help, I'm sure I will have more questions, I dig through magazines first and if i don't find what I'm looking for there I dig on here. Good luck and happy fishing.
  2. Thanks yall, as soon as I posted this question I went back to the home page and seen KVD's article and read it. Another question is the speed of soft plastics t-rigs, c-rigs, wacky and shaky. Where do you start with those slower speeds or faster speeds. My big goal when I get back to the states is to learn fishing with soft plastics and jigs.
  3. I am trying to learn more about casting and retrieving. I got my head stuck in new and old magazines, and for the life of me I can not find much about either topic. I do know that as casting distance increases accuracy decreases. With retrieves the speed of the retrieve has a large affect on the action. My main question is when are longer casts needed, and what makes you change the speed of the retrieve. As well as special retrieves such as walk-the-dog, what are others that I can use?
  4. So I was tooting around on Cabelas the other day, and clicked the rod and reel sale link. There was this camo rod made by USA Custom Rods, without reading anything more than to find the 7' med rod, I clicked the buy button. It was about 70$ off. Does anyone know anything about USA Custom Rods, or seen any reviews? Well after clicking the buy button on a E21 Carrot stix spinning rod that showed up for 90$ its the 7'2" xf hm rod. I also bought 2 of the Pflueger President 6735 reels I will probably buy a stronger reel for the Carrot stix here shortly.
  5. Actualy I am in the Army, we are stationed on a small post filled it all Army, Navy, Airforce, and Marines. The neat thing is there are French, Japanese, South Korean, Egyptian, and a few other small groups of military here. Its actualy been a good deplyment, I have been sent down to Mozambique to conduct a seminar with some mechanics in thier military. While down there I got the chance to do some fishing. We used old 90s pocket fishermans and prawn parts, had a blast. I have recently gotten to go out on a day trip and fish here in Djibouti, it was very different they gave us snorkels and a piece of plywood with line wrapped around it and a piece of meat took 10 minutes to get used to laying on my tummy to fish but we caught a lot of smaller grouper and a few other 15'' fish.
  6. Thanks for the help, I had it sent over here so i could get used to it and not lose line and lures. Is there anything I should look out for when i first start practicing with it?
  7. I just got my first baitcaster, and i am just curious as to why you load a baitcaster with the spool vertical, and a spinning real with the spool horizontal. Any other tip for loading a baitcaster would be great.
  8. I am currently deployed to Djibouti Africa, and I sure am missing home. I have fished since a young age mostly with live bait for catfish, that is until I hooked into a good size bass. I plan on investing in a boat and some better fishing gear and give tournament fishing a try. Starting off as a non-boater and then progressing. I have been reading magazines and scouring though Bassresource since I left the states. I would love any help and advise I could get. Thanks again, happy jaw jerking.
