  1. Frank Sinatra y'all
  2. Beautiful farm 13 fatties
  3. Where are the females? I've always had my best luck at closing time
  4. I use braid often and tie it directly to the eye when doing anything on the bottom, jigs, worms etc. but for my lighter rods that I use for topwaters and jerk baits I always use a leader. I find the braid will wrap up when using a jerk and pause retrieve. That's what I meant before about prop baits. Unless I rip it and then stop long enough to reel in slack it just wraps around the prop. I like to rip rip rip pause, or some variation of that. can't do it without a leader
  5. just today I caught a 2.5 lber on a really small rapala floating minnow. I was actually just playing around in my kayak with my ultra light gear catching big bluegill and small bass, when the chunky one took a bite.
  6. Outstanding! A slot snook is a prize indeed. I see you like to fish at stickmarsh farm 13....with beasts like these I can understand why... y'know i'm kidding right?......................RIGHT???? LOL.....great day. And my spidey sense tells me a tarpon is in your immediate future
  7. I like em to run straight. If I want em to hunt I get them in beagle color.
  8. Back in the day, T-rigged lizards were the go to bait for bedding bass. pitching them into the shallows during the spawn would be veru productive. Of course that was not the only time to fish them. I have Carolina rigged them and done well but they were a classic bedding bass bait.
  9. Well young fella, living in Daytona I forsee many redfish in your future, so hang on to those mirror lures. for your pond I would try a 4 inch senko. Have fun kid, it's your time
  10. Are you using quality graphite rods? They are costly but truly a pleasure to fish with. that being said the braid line should transmit bumps very well unless your setup is a really heavy one like you would use for musky or something. I never hold the line between my fingers. but line watching is a habit. Any unnatural movement gets a hookset. Oh, and I also don't play the feeling game with bass. When in doubt set the hook. I have set the hook on weeds, logs, rocks, and of course fish. I'm never embarrassed by it. The only time I regretted it was when I set the hook in a tree and broke a really nice rod. But then again, I ve broken rods setting the hook on 2 pound bass. that was kinda funny. I ended up landing the fish by the old "hand over hand" retrieve method. Rod was not defective, just not my day.
  11. fat ika's are an outstanding bait. I rig them with the skirt up and no weight . they will 'swim' away from you as they sink. casting to the edge of a weedline allows the bait to get under the weeds in a very natural way. I've caught some big bass on it. Chatterbaits are great lures' too but one is hard and bladed and the other is soft plastic. Nothing similar about them at all.
  12. Nice collection. condition is great. No doubt they would catch trout and snook.
  13. You don't hear much about mirror lures for bass. They are a staple for inshore species like redfish and snook. theres's no reason why they won't work on bass though. the lures for inshore and bass are pretty interchangeable. I too don't have much luck with the sinking mirrorlure, but the floaters and suspenders are killers. Keep tossing them, they will catch
  14. Had a similar thing happen recently. I was wading and had two plano boxes, one in each cargo pocket. Reached down to get a new lure and one box was missing.....Either a clever fish picked my pocket or the box just floated off, not sure which
  15. Your going through a phase and it's a good one so don't fret. when the catch and release first set in with me, I also regretted keeping some bass, but it passed. Even the fish I just showed off but never ate. We seem to forget at times that fishing is about having fun. Of course having a conservation mind set is a good idea, but part of the fun in the beginning, especially for youngsters is to show off the catch "look what I did mommy" or some similar sentiment. It's all good. I'm glad you have accepted catch and release as your way of fishing but don't fret keeping a chunky two pounder now and then. bass are very tasty and full of Omega 3's
  16. I understand this, but casting a front prop bait with braid line and no leader is a real waste of time unless you just reel it straight in.
  17. Everyone gets skunked that's just a fact of fishing life. But three weeks is a long time. I'm glad you asked if "Is it just me or the fish" Because of course it's you. I doubt that it's your presentation, it's probably that your not locating the fish. That is the first rule in all fishing "find the fish"..... You didn't say anything about how you fish, e.g. from a boat, etc. I'm guessing that your fishing from shore and that always adds difficulty. You want to know what I would do you, so I'll tell you. I would keep moving to different spots and fish an unweighted senko slowly. then I would save my pennies and get a jon boat. they can be bought cheap off craigs list.
  18. the braid can also loop around the tip top during the jerk pause jerk movement
  19. Excellent!...thank you all. I was thinking of using it for snook in the surf. sounds like it would work just fine.
  20. for just catching fish, a little beetle spin is hard to beat. for bass the senko is also hard to beat, but I understand the hook setting problem. A rattle trap then in her favorite color should be fun, and lord knows they do catch fish
  21. rippin' em is how I do it.....mostly A heddon dying flutter was my all time greatest lure. Bass, and chain pickerel would jump all over it. I lost it inside a big pickerel. I bought another to replace it and it wasn't nearly as good. Tried several others and nope. that one particular bait had a certain something that the fish couldn't resist. I bent the props all different ways on any number of similar lures but it never worked. RIP dying flutter, you are forever in my heart.
  22. what's with the trolling accusations here at BassResource.com? someone says something a little critical and it's assumed to be a troll? How about we put our big boy pants on and stop this whiney nonsense. I pity the fool who shows up at a tournament with this kind of thin skinned whimpyness The dock side trash talk will have you crying for your mommy. Actually, no I didn't. A win at that level is quite achievement and I give him all credit I guess my post was motivated by my personal disappointment in his lack of dominance in recent years. I suppose my thinking is that when you are the undisputed king. And yes, I know Roland Martin disputed this when the all time great list came out with Clunn at the top, but it's like when Muhammed Ali started to fade as a boxer but couldn't stay out of the ring. Yes, he could still win, but he was only a shadow of himself and that was just sad. I feel the same way about RC.
  23. when Disney makes an animated movie about coyotes being hunted by the evil man beast that will change
  24. Anyone out there still using these? I found one in good shape in an old tackle box but can't remember ever using it. So my question is how do y'all fish it? Are you using like a wake bait or a regular jerk bait? thanks.
  25. KVD is still a relatively young man and an outstanding basser. His legacy is not yet complete. The one I wonder about is Rick Clunn. He's a legend for sure, but is he tarnishing his reputation by continuing to have poor showings in tournaments? I like him. I really like his approach to fishing, but tournament fishing is competitive fishing. He can't just "tune in" to the fish, he needs to work his ass off and catch em. I really think he lost his burning desire to win. If so, he should hang it up, write articles and books, go on speaking engagements or something. Just sayin'.............................
