I will be at KY Lake events. I just put it into my GPS and I'm 6 miles from the Moor's so I'll stay at my home. Can't wait to see some of my old pals and meet some new ones! EDIT: This event is scheduled the same weekend as the FLW series event on KY Lake. I'll catch the tale end of the roadtrip. Chris

Another thing to take into consideration is what size hooks a vise will hold.

I wore a $40 vice out in about 75 jigs when I first started. Now I have a Griffin Mongoose and I love it. It's in the $180 price range. The Griffin Spider, I think it's called, is cheaper and I've heard great reviews on it but still around $120 I think. I just love a vise that has a cam lock. The ones that have a screw locking system, just won't hold up to tying bigger jigs. The screws strip out. There's probably some cheaper ones out there and if you are tying smaller jigs or just not many, you can get away with the cheaper ones. I would recommend getting a rotary vise though.

There's going to be more companies introducing these type jig heads this year at a more affordable price. But you'll have to have a little patients.

I used a couple Falcon Originals for several years. Note that Falcons are under powered so a med power is closer to med/light. Very durable rod though.

Structure scan is sensitive to the speed you are going. Mine works best at 5-6 MPH. You may be able to hold steady speed in your kayak. I know kayak fishing is gaining lots of popularity. I would ask somebody who fishes from one. I bet it makes a difference and I bet they know what works best on a kayak. Good luck

True chirp technology is only found in Raymarine. I'm good friends with a guy who is a genius at this stuff and that's what he told me. The Lowerance Chirp is one of those misleading units. The GPS on them works fine but if I was wanting a good GPS mapping unit, I would look at a Humminbird. They are compatible with Lakemasters map cards and they are the best. I use a Humminbird for maps only and a Gen 2 for structure scan. I like my Humminbird's sonar too back when I used it for that. Just a thought. I would definitely read into it before I purchased one. I was fortunate to have a good friend lead me in the right direction.

I'm not familiar with Garmin. Just be careful with companies advertising units as "down scans". I got a Lowerance Elite 7 HDI a few years back thinking I was getting top shelf technology at a cheap price when all I got was a glorified sonar. True structure scan units aren't cheap and require a good transducer. I got a Gen 2 Touch w/ a LSS-2 transducer last year and finally got what I was looking for. I'm not the best at explaining everything to these units but I know that there are those "big box store" units and then there is the real deal. If you are just wanting a good sonar, I would get just that, a sonar. JMO

Which down scan are you getting?

They are pricey but they work. You could probably go with a Zara Spook for a lot cheaper but the Boing does something others don't for me and that is stay on plain while it's paused. I like that. The noise they make is wicked. People who tried them years ago would have found a vinyl wrapped finish. They would tear up easily. The company sold and they made good corrections. Also, I only buy them in person so I can go through them and listen to each one. They are some with better sound than others. I'm not gonna tell you to go buy one but I will say that I own a few and I like em.

I use 8# flouro with the 90. I might could get away with 10# but I like the results I get with 8#. I prefer spinning gear mainly because I like the drag system on spinning reels much better which I found to be critical. Took me about a minute to get this girl in the boat she worked my drag over:

My sister has told me again and again to watch Breaking Bad. I might give it a shot one day. I have DVR so I recorded every episode but DVD's you don't have commercials. The Walking Dead is a show that you need to watch every episode or some things won't make any sense later on.

NICE! I have binge watched from episode 1 at least 3 times. I see things I missed every time. I love how they put little details in that end up meaning something on down the road.
