  1. Humminbird Helix 7 Tree trunk was prob 3 inches in diameter. branches-1 inch.
  2. I still have a long way to go in learning the advantages and limitations of side-imaging but last weekend I moved next to and past some flooded trees (with lots of branches, etc) in about 6 feet of water and was surprised to see little real indication of said trees on the screen (on the side imaging setting). They were were well within the range setting of the unit but still nothing very obvious was revealed. Is it BECAUSE they were in 6 feet of water that they were not readily apparent? Does deeper structure show better?
  3. Two "first's" of firearm safety: Treat every firearm as though it was loaded and NEVER point the firearm at anything you do not (or would not) intend to shoot at. i'm really not sure what is so HARD about these two rules. Glad to know the outcome was not worse.
  4. Have not done a scientific comparison but I'm pretty happy with Sufix 832.
  5. Use a seine. After a few passes through, you should get the majority.
  6. Some people will tell you what you just what you want to hear and not think twice about it. If it was as dirty as you described, I doubt he ever changed the oil. But I would do what others have said-run it for awhile and recheck it.
  7. ESPECIALLY the fishing shows
  8. You want I should break it's legs?
  9. If I want to fish to relax, I fish with my friend Kyle. If I want to fish to catch fish, I fish with Perry or Michael. And when I want to fish to experiment and/or try new things, I fish by myself. I don't think there's a right or wrong way to fish so long as you find pleasure in it. If you don't, you need to change something up.
  10. One of my favorite fishing stories: I broke off on a respectable bass while using a floating Rapala. I briefly mourned my loss and then continued to fish in the area. A few minutes later, I saw a bass (the bass, MY bass) approaching the surface. I could tell it was "my" bass because the lure was still in it's mouth. Anyway, about this time it tail-walked on the surface, shaking it's head until the lure flew off and out. It was close enough to me (I was on the bank) that I was able to cast to and retrieve my Rapala. Thank you, fishy! Having said that, I think that often (though perhaps not always) bass are able to rid themselves of their unwanted "guest."
  11. My advice: Fish for the fish you can't see and ignore the ones you can.
  12. Unless you go to a lot of trolling-motor-only lakes, expect to fish in a lot of wind, waves, or current or will be out on consecutive days without access to electricity (for charging) a 36 volt system seems rather excessive for a boat that size. In addition to having space for the batteries, access TO the batteries is also an issue. Remember that these batteries all have to be hooked up together with heavy cables and invariably at one time or another, one or several will fail or weaken and need to be replaced. My two cents.
  13. The motor is about 6 years old but I've replaced that switch, I think, 3 times already. Oh, and most of their transom mounted motors use the same switch.
  14. I ALSO more recently noticed that the motor seemed to have lost an appreciable degree of power. Would that not also indicate that dirty contact points were limiting power to the motor? I KNOW I could just buy another switch and install it but I'm getting sick of replacing cheapo (crappy) parts. Getting sick of Minn Kota, actually. p.s., I apologize if this was supposed to go under electronics.
  15. If I recall correctly, it's a "Vector" but I'm at work and it's at home.
  16. Last weekend my Minn Kota trolling motor gave me problems AGAIN. We were on a TM only lake and were just about as far from the ramp as we could get when the forward speeds stopped working. (Thank goodness the reverse speeds still worked otherwise it would have been midnight before we made it back to the ramp-if ever). Anyway, upon closer examination, I can SOMETIMES get the forward speeds to work but only SOMETIMES. It doesn't seem "loose" like the LAST time the switch broke. I am wondering if carbon is building up on the contact points. Of course the switch is sealed so I would have to drill a hole in the switch housing and squirt in some contact cleaner but has anyone else ever experienced such a problem as this before? Or could it be the brushes on the motor? (I suspect not because it works fine in reverse). Any thoughts (besides switching to Motor Guide)?
  17. Do you care to elaborate? Inquiring minds want to know. : )
  18. It's humorous to me that you ask this question AFTER you bought it. TOO late! : )
  19. If you show me yours, I'll show you mine. : )
  20. I zip tie a mouse on as a trailer. They squeak pretty good. Up to a point, anyway.
  21. A light rain will have less effect than a moderate or heavy rain. If it has effected the "flow", as Scott F says, look for inlets-places where water flows into the pond and, to a lesser degree, where water flows out of the pond. I have really good luck dropping a soft plastic into these areas and waiting for the pick up.
  22. When sniffing didn't work, I once licked the hook for said purpose and wound up with a pierced tongue. No regerts!
  23. I think so. So, at a reallllly slow chart speed, won't it be a bit "jerky"?
  24. Except for the Thunderstorm part of it, my first choice would be Friday, April 22nd. My second choice...maybe Thursday, April 21st. A somewhat extended warm up period and no northerly wind on Friday makes this probably the best. But in the spring it can be all over the place so it's harder to predict.
