  1. Spinnerbaits are not included in MA lead law ” Lead sinkers, lead weights, and lead jigs weighing less than an ounce. Any sinker or weight made from lead that weighs less than 1 ounce, and any lead jig (meaning any lead-weighted hook) that weighs less than 1 ounce, is prohibited for use in all inland waters of the Commonwealth. The term lead sinker shall not include any other sinkers, weights, fishing lures or fishing tackle including, but not limited to, artificial lures, hooks, weighted flies, and lead-core or other weighted fishing lines.”
  2. Talk about excessive! I mean really who needs two nets?
  3. Checked them out at the classic sale during the rod trade in. Almost all the store had left had misaligned or twisted guides. Very disappointing. I have three Veritas two casting one spinning. Haven't had any breaking issues.
  4. 3 inch shiner fished 10 feet under 16 inches of ice over 30 feet of water on a Jack trap tip up.
  5. Thanks all! I watched the bassresource video as recommended and removed the handle and handle side cover in an orderly fassion and placed all parts lined upin order of disassembly on a white towel in a small pan as suggested. I used a qtip to remove all visible crud and left open to dry last night. Need to get oil today for bearings and worm drive and reassemble. Will send to DVT as recommended for deep cleaning. I believe the grinding maybe sand as where the incident happened was a sandy bottom beach area. Thanks again.
  6. Embarrassed but while casting from the bank tonight. I somehow lost grip on my rod (too much KVD over spray maybe) and managed to launch it into the water in front of me. I picked it up pretty quickly but the reel definitely took on water. I removed the side plate and spool and drained as much water as I could. I reassemble and casted and reeled in a few times and there is a noticeable grind on the handle side of the reel. Reel is Abu revo s gen3. It is my first baitcaster and I have no experience with taking them apart. I realize it probably needs to be sent out to be cleaned but what steps should I take before doing so to ensue no internal corrosion occurs. I have the owners manual and schematic. What should I do?
  7. Stand with you feet about shoulder width apart and knees bent. Place the rod horizontally behind your knees with the separation point in the middle with each hand knuckles up resting against the sides of your knees. Hold the rod firmly and apply outward pressure against your hands with your knees. Usually works even on the most stubborn of rods. Once you get it apart make sure there is no sand or etc on the rod or in the open end. Good luck
  8. Manns Jelly worm. Grape or blackberry. Early 80's
  9. Storm 7 inch rattle lightnin' worm in motor oil. Absolutely deadly on a local pond. While others still produce, These used to out fish all others 3 to 1. Finished my last pack last year.
  10. I have had the mojo "power spin" model MBS70MHF for two seasons now. Only purchased because it was 50% off at a local fishing show. No quality/breakage issues or complaints to date. Fish it with braid and Mono on a Shirmano Saraha 2500. Make no mistake this rod is stiff and while not perfect for every application, I have used it on everything from plastics to top water. I have other rods that I reach for first when I know I am going fishing, but this one is always in my truck and has been used quite a bit as a spur of the moment rod. It casts well, although accuracy suffers due to the stiffness of this specific model. Power is closer to heavy than medium. Sensitivity is OK. Action is fast as advertised. Need more info on techniques and situatons you plan to fish to recommend length and action. Have you checked St. Croix's website? Each mojo model is listed with its suggested application. Make sure you consider the weight of the baits you plan to use and the line test as well when making your selection. Good Luck
  11. Don't know if I would put them in the "excellent" catagory but Abu Veritas is available in both two piece spinning and casting models.
  12. That color I believe is exclusive to Gander Mountain and is presently backordered.
  13. We have been doing very well with the weighted swim bait hook and the rage craw.
  14. I try to check the local stores as often as I can. Persistance pays off. I picked up two Avid spinning rods (one last year, one last month) on clearence marked down to $99.97 from original list prices of $189.99 & $169.99. Both were then marked an additional 50% off and I had coupons for $10.00 off. Each rod cost $39.99. When you enter the date codes to register the St. Croix warranty they were manufacured two years ago. You have to check the rods closley when you come across them as some are shop worn and have guide issues and nicks in the blanks.
  15. I have 5 sarahas (500, 2-2500, 3000 & 4000) & no complaints. Good reel for me. I believe pfluger comes with spare spool where the shirmano do not. Spare spool gives you more options and makes it more versitile especially if this is your only combo.
