  1. Fat Ika is still one od my favorite baits, but for some reason lately I've been missing a lot of fish on them. I found some Big Ika's, they look like a cross between a senko and big ika, 4" long. I used a 3/0 Skip Gap hook. I threw them around the pads on Friday, and caught over 20 fish on a black big ika. I'm not giving up on the Fat Ika, but I will always have some big ikas with me as well. A cross between a senko and an Ika - it's gotta work! Also rigged it skirt up.
  2. Great Post! I gotta go with Catt on this one. Until the bass start reading the same magazines we do, they won't always do what their suppose to.
  3. I don't particularly care for them - they seem to be harder than a regular senko - and the fall is a bit different and I just haven't done well with them, but other people have. JMO
  4. I caught a 3lb LMB this Saturday and when he got close to the boat he spit out a baby bass colored senko. About a second later he tossed a white senko, and I caught him on a black senko. Either he wasn't very fussy about colors, or he just loves senkos. I think I should have kept him - maybe he was a Senko Dispensor!
  5. Just one, a "Friend" in the boat with me is all it takes for me to have a great day! Catching fish is just a Bonus!
  6. I had one of my best days ever Saturday. We got 28 LMB, two over 5, two over 3 and alot of smaller keepers. Every fish was caught on some kind of soft plastic bait, senkos, fat ikas, flukes, and Kreature type baits. I'm not complaining because it was a great day, but I couldn't catch a fish on a crank bait or spinner bait if my life depended on it. I've taken countless casts with them and have almost zip to show for it. Oh well, my tackle bag will get a lot lighter only carrying soft plastics and an occasional top water. One has to know his limitations!
  7. 5" Black Senko / blue specs Fat Ika close 2nd
  8. I'm looking to get a digital camera so I can post some pictures and maybe make some videos. Is there something out there that is relatively easy to use and under $500 or is that asking too much? Any suggestions would help - Thanks in advance.
  9. Russ - Please tell Eric how sorry I am to hear about his loss.
  10. I was back at Dick's this week end and the soft plastice were no longer on sale, but all the Yamamoto hooks were 20% off.
  11. I have the same issue, but want to at least try some jigs as so many people talk about jigs so highly. I'm going to give them one more try this year using one from critterbait. It's a 1/4 oz finess jig, but the trailer rides on top instead of behind. You rig it weedless with what looks like a screw lock hook. The wbsite is critterbait.com (looks interesting) Also I'm a big fan of the Fat Ika - the Big Ika is also a good choice in a mucky bottom - it's a liitle longer and not as fat and heavy - other than that it looks the same. Good Luck!
  12. Went to Dick's Sporting goods yesterday in Central MA, and they had 20% on all Yamamoto soft plastics. I don't know how long it lasts or even if other Dick's have the same sale, just thought I would throw it out there.
  13. I just got one and I found that the bigger jigs fit snuggly, but the real small ones don't stay in too good.
  14. The design does appear to be great, but I couldn't use them on my favorite bait - Fat Ika.
  15. Promeetheeus sent me this site as I was looking for some wire gurad weedless jigs. They don't have a wire guard, but they are rigged so the trailer is on top of the jig and Texas rigged weedless. It looks to be a great idea. Just wanted to share this site and see if anyone uses these. critterbait.com
  16. Prom - Those Critterbait jigs look awesome - I love the idea of having the trailer on top and skin hooking it to make it weedless. I already have my order in! Tucson - Thanks for the tip and I'm pretty sure your Decoder Ring is on the way. Thanks Bill
  17. Thanks Papa_Tom! What I am looking for is the wire guard that actually hooks on to the hook point.
  18. Does anyone know if they make jigs witha wire guard instead of those brissels? Thanks!
  19. Great Fish - Is he still swimming?
  20. I have a Shimano Chronarch that almost ended up in the drink for the same reasons. I had the adjustment knob set but not the brakes. I had all the brakes off. When I put three on (every other one) it made all the difference and now I can actually do it pretty good (after much practice). The reel mech also sent me a good article he wrote - try sending him a PM Good Luck
  21. Speechless!
  22. Nice Fish Dan! Is that the KVD S/B with the #2 red trailer hook on the back? Thanks Bill
  23. I've never had one come off either and I don't use glue, but I'm sure it would help.
  24. I've read several different opinions about trimming a jig. One says to cut the weed guard at or near the hook point. Another says to leave the weed guard long because trimming it makes it too firm and harder for the fish to compress it.. Another says to spread the weed guard out. What do you guys do? Thanks in Advance.
