  1. I Having fished DHL for the past four years, off and on, my go to baits in the fall are jig (camo, PBJ, green pumpkin) with matching paca trailers; tail spinner; silver buddy; FNF (later in the winter - going tomorrow and will fish mostly) and swimbait. As the water cools (i.e. late November and December) you need to slow it down, I mean painfully slow. I try to fish my jigs where I feel every bump on the bottom paying particular attention to get slightly hung on the rocks. When it pops off that rock, reel down and be prepared to set the hook at the slightest tap. Tailspinner you also need to bounce off the bottom ("slow rolling") with swift pops of the rod, keeping in contact at all times with the bait because they will hit it 90% of the time on the down fall. You can work the silver buddy the same way, but will get hung a bit more. I agree that DHL is a VERY tough lake to learn and be successful as a beginner. I have walked off the lake skunked with tail between my legs many times. I suggest going with a friend and hiring a guide for you first trip, at least. There are many good ones down there, look on smalljaw website to find some of the best on the lake. Good luck and let us know how you do, if you have not already gone.
  2. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! Me, as a previous poster mention, I love their attitude and fight! That makes them beautiful to me!!!! Just like my wife....lol
  3. I would agree, night time is probably the best option. I would look up Greg Bresendine (Dusk to Dawn Guide Service) - his number and information is on smalljaw.com. He is probably the best night time fishing guide on the lake. He fishes out of Horse Creek. I would also recommend HC as a possible destination, the people there are amazing! Numbers are definitely down this year. I have fished several nights, catching mainly unders and some middle slot fish. Best night probably boated 10-12 fish. Primarily use hair jigs at night, mix in a little spinnerbait action as well.
  4. That one might give you riding partner a run for his/her money! lol Very nice!
  5. Thanks Triton and Sfritr! I have braided line on both of my rods, so I guess I have a decent shot if one hits, but I will see if I can get up to BPS prior to leaving. If not I will try Dick's. Is the white bass fishing pretty good at Cave? Sfritr, I hope I can post some results!
  6. We are staying at Lake View Motel and I think they have common ownership with Hook, Line and Sinker so I might have to pick their brain. From the things I have read, the lake appears to have some good grass beds that house the Muskie, so I am assuming the bass won't be too far away. The plan is to stick with my top waters in early evening and morning as well as my senko's. I just am not sure if I want to add a wire leader to my bait while fishing for bass. I have read stories about bass fisherman loosing their favorite lure to a nice size muskie...
  7. Planning a trip there this weekend. I know it is know for the Muskie, but I wanted to see if anyone has fished it for bass and get any feedback they might have. I do not have the equipment for Muskie, but I do hear they are fun to catch. It is a good size lake, so any helpful hints on areas to concentrate would also be appreciated. THANKS!
  8. I am renting a cabin up there in August 12th and 13th, let me know if you are around those days. I will be fishing in the evenings and mornings all weekend. We have a blue and white Tahoe, hope to see you there! I am going to Cave Run the weekend of the 29th and 30th, ever fished there?
  9. Have you made your trip there yet? Wondering if you had any luck. I read some posts on Smalljaws and they are catching some pretty nice smallies there.
  10. What area do you normally fish on the river? I have been wanting to try fishing it, just so much area. Hard to know where to start.
  11. Thanks stritr! For those interested, the website is actually www.nbaa-bass.com. The other is the national business aviation association :^)
  12. Best of luck! Garr is in the first cove on the south east side. Let us know how you do. I will be there Sat. and Sun., probably only fishing one day. I will also report back.
  13. Fished there on Sunday. I put in at Garr Ramp and that area is all no wake. They left a bunch of stumps in the upper fork of the cove once you come out from Garr across from Mound State Park. This was my first time on the lake, so forgive me if that is not Mound. I only fished for an hour from 10 am to 11 am (had kids and wife with me) and caught two largemouth (each 12 - 14") on a spinner bait. Garr is a free ramp. Not sure if others are or not, again first time there. I will go back (need to take advantage of the $20 boat fee and fishing license!). Not much, but hope it helps.
  14. I would also be interested if anyone found a club. I have a boat, but it is a fish and ski boat. Looking with someone that knows some good local fishing holes or an occassional road trip.
  15. Thought I would bring this one back. Anyone catching anything in the NKY tri state area? Wondering what is working after these mini heat waves also. I have bought a new fish/ski boat, so I am looking for a good place to put in without any HP limits. Something within an hour of the area if possible.
  16. Anyone have a link to a good site that shows how to rig all the different lures? I also am looking for different knots and how to tie them. Prefer video's and/or pictures.
  17. Thanks for the advice Sfritr. It is looking like this weekend is going to be my first trip and I know it will be busy... Might just leave the boat in for the weekend. Not sure how the layout is at Williamstown Lake, but at least I will have his help the first time.
  18. Going out to Williamstown Lake this weekend by Dry Ridge. Anyone ever fish it?
  19. Will be fishing from a boat. Just purchased one last week. It is a ski but I am adding a trolling motor and fish finder to it. Just a beginner boat, but something I will be willing take around to various lakes. Might hit Williamstown lake this weekend. I have not heard much about the lake from a fishing standpoint, but the guy I bought my boat from is going to help me through pulling the boat, launching and putting it on the trailer. I am a rookie!
  20. Thanks for both of your replies! I would need to get an OH license as well to fish Ceaser's. If that is one of the better lakes around I might have to try it out. Do either of you ever fish on the river?
  21. Sfritr - Do you fish any other lakes in the area? Just curious where there is some good fishing. Just bought a boat and would like to find some good spots. It is more of a ski boat, coverted to fishing with a fish finder and trolling motor... As long as it floats...
  22. Birdy, do you fish the ohio river? I am in NKY and have never tried fishing the river.
  23. Anyone in the northern ky area?
