  1. last time i went fishing, last week, the fish were spawning. im goin with my brother on sunday and want 2 c wats goin on in other lakes
  2. i fish a simialar lake by my house. i wade out to the drop off at deepest its in 2.5' and cast along the drop off try poppers in the mourning. the midday fishing can be crappy cause the clear water and deep cover will take thm out of my reach
  3. texas rig motor oil wit red flakes worm 3/16 oz.... nvr fails
  4. wat are the advantages of the jika rig versus the t-rig carolina rig and jig? is there instances it is better than a t-rig or a jig?
  5. cast and let sink start ur retrive with ur rod tip at about a 30 degree angle , raise ur rod to give action to worm, everything from 6" twitches to 6' sweeps can work so vary ur retrieve til u figure out what they want. i don pick up slack until my rod is vertical u nvr want enough slack so tht u cant feel some pressure, keep a finger on the line to feel for a strike.they usually hit it wen its stopped wen tht happens point rod to where line hits the water crank down slack and set the hook.
  6. i was fishing a popper one day, i cast out and while letting the ripples die i watched a blue gill hitting a insect a couple of feet away from my popper when a bass blew up on my popper. this got me thinking that the bluegill making comotion helped entice the strike, so i tied about 18" of 8 lb. mono to the back hook of the popper and tied a panfish popper to the other end it. i fished this rig the rest of the evening and i was impressed that the addition of the panfish popper improved the presentation. what happens is blue gill will come up and hit the small popper and i let them mess with it and make some noise, next thing u no the gills dart away and a split-second later BOOM a bass eats the popper. as long as the small popper is getting messed with i am confident tht ths rig is actively attracting bass. only down side is the light popper whips around when casting and can become tangled in the treble hooks on the popper, however by slowing the speed of the bait through the air i can now consistently cast with out any problems.
  7. I'm about to go out to a pond by my house, i'l be fishing from shore, so i'm hoping the warm weather and bright sun will have fish relating to shallow cover, in this case a rip-rap shore by deep water. So i'm wonderin if any1 else has done any fishing and had luck yet this year?
  8. Best spinnerbait combo? under $400 1/4-3/4 oz. considering a Quantum smoke PT and 7' mh fast action mojo, but want to make sure im getting the best bang for my buck.
  9. Most of my fishing is done in old strip mines and retention ponds, and every pond i go to i have just hammered the fish. Anyone else havin a good year?
  10. i agree just got back from an outing iv been throwin berkley swimshads almost exclusively so far. in 4 trips to n apond near me iv caught 3, 4 lb. and a 5 lb. 15 oz. fish. Its my go to bait right now 4 sure.
  11. Im 18 years old, and it seems like im the only fisherman in colimbus OH. I grew up fishing with my dad and my older brother. My brother went to college and my dad is stuborn when it comes to new techniques/tackle he maintains a vintage abu, ambassadeur 5500 c with 14-20lb. always lo-vis green trilene mono with a big bullet weight 5/0 hook with 10 in worm and a spinning combo from the 70's or 80's with a f11 original rapala. Then i was turned on to a lake i have been carp and catfishing on weekend nights in the summer with my brothers. Being, at one point, no more than fifty yards from i-270 and at another,100 from i-70,surrounded by a business, trucking warehouse residential housing.Along with a preconcieved notion the water was uncapable of sustaining healthy populations of game fish.,we caught more carp then anythinggrowing up so thought it was polluted and no gamefish we would regularly seek could survive. Even after i was told it had bass i was skeptical so we, as suggested went and used light spinning tackle using a carolina rig. We went 3 or 4 times and caught only a couple fish that came close to a foot. theres not much visible cover, a brush pile and 20 yards of nice rip-rap bank is about all that stands out, so we inferred it didnt have enough cover that big bass can utilize. Then i decided to go on a excursion i expected would last at most an hour due to dark skys and bad forecasts for the night. When i arrived i took a look at the lake from my elevated position and saw the expected high waters being whipped by 15 mph wind towards the rip rap shore and brush pile, so i started down the gravel shore,at times wading ankle deep, throwing a 7/16 oz swimshad with the wind. At first i favored slow retrieves thinking the fish would be inactive until i was burning it in to recast in maybe 2 feet of water a 14'' fish eats the swimbait. i began trying faster and more eratic presentations and found weed beds from 4-8 feet im guessing staying about 15 yards off shore. In 2 and a half hours i caught around twenty fish pretty good, what makes it the best two hours of fishing iv experienced is the 8 fish over 2 lb. 8 oz, including my personal best a 5 lb. 15 oz. monster that unlike most of the strikes that day wasnt shy about letting me no i got a hit. 5 biggest went 5. 3 lb 4oz. 4. 3 lb. 6 oz. 3. 3 lb. 13 oz. 2. 4 lb 7 oz. 1 5 lb 15 oz. It inspired me to see what other unknown fisheries i have access to. I never even got to the rip rap.
