  1. Very strong and abrasion resistant but its like trying to cast a slinky through your guides. It would make a great leader but I pretty much hate it as a main line.
  2. I like to use a little oil on the drum. I've never seen any negative effects. It keeps it smooth and prevents the brakes from having too much of an effect. I will continue to do it because I like it and I trust DVT's opinion, but based i the answers I guess it's sort of a preference thing.
  3. I also like the mh. I use a 6'8 mh/fast cumara. Like it a lot. Mostly use 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits.
  4. Are you referring to the alberto? If so no need to tie off tag ends, but there also shouldn't the "loose appearance" as you say. It is really a clean knot well seated tie. I cut my tag ends as close to the body of the knot as I can and no problems.
  5. X2 easy to tie. Slimmest strongest knot.
  6. Really not a big deal. They're stored in a plastic bag and the sticker peels off very easily and cleanly. Has the loomis hate really come this far?
  7. Although I'm a bass fisherman my favorite reservoir is croton falls in mahopac. The fish just seem to be way more active here than the others I have fished, and there seems to be way more action in general. Schools of fish seem to be everywhere. For a trout fisherman it should be great. I have caught some browns while fishing for bass, and it is recognized as a "special trout fishery" or what ever the label is they put on it. Many of the fish in the jack Stewart book have been caught from there. There is a spot where all the trout fisherman go. I can't think of the name of the road but its easy to find. Coming from route six make a right at the mahopac fire station onto what I think is croton falls rd. After a couple miles the spot is a left turn on a dirt rd. I can't think of the name but I will look it up and get back to you.
  8. X2 works very well
  9. Exactly. Stands up perfectly all the time. No need too worry if your plastic is doing what you want. Just cast and catch fish.
  10. Yea I always take online review with a grain of salt. However I feel like people are less brand biased on something like line as opposed to rod or reel. Also with flouro line it seems like there is always someone ready to talk bad because it doesn't handle like mono. But not suffix. I really like other suffix lines as well.
  11. I'll be using it this year as my mainline flouro due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews I've read on TW.
  12. I like the Berkley 100% as a main line, but its best quality is manageability. To me it doesn't have great knot strength or abrasion resistance(good just not great. Vicious elite on the other hand I dislike as main line because of its handeling and it always coils. I was thinking of using it this year as a leader because there is no doubt it is very strong with great knot strength and excellent abrasion resistance. The suggestion of seaguar actual leader material is also a good one. Thought of trying that also this year.
  13. If you want to use it for spinnerbaits, it will make a very nice spinnerbaits rod.
  14. It's a nice rod, but not the right rod for crankbaits. The extra fast action is not going to be ideal. What you want is a moderate or mod/fast taper. In the veritas line the winch series is designed specifically for cranks. If you can, exchange your rod for a veritas winch series rod.
  15. Revo premier 7:1 ratio. Going to paired with a dobyns extreme 743,hopefully before the season gets here. Got plenty of time to save up till winter is over.
  16. There is a thread on tackle tour that compares the weights of the two Nrx's and believe it or not the green ones were lighter. Very minimal difference but lighter.
  17. I chose suffix siege but I actually use suffix elite. With out a doubt my favorite mono, but with all the love yo-zuri hybrid gets I think I'm gonna give it a try this coming season.
  18. Sorry to disagree but the difference between a 30 ton and 40 ton blank alone make it worth it for me. Then add the guides and the looks of it and I know exactly which one i want.
  19. Thanks for the reply deak , but I was actually asking about the *** series not the ***. I've heard nothing but good things about the *** series so I'm confident to order it blind over the Internet but would still like to get some info on the *** series.
  20. Haven't been able to find much info on these. Was curious if anybody has one of any kind but would love some info on the 7'3 mh/xf specifically.
  21. Totally agree. I know to really judge a rod I should fish it but if it can't even pass the hand test why would I want to fish with it.
  22. I really like the cumulus rod. I use it for pitching 1/4 oz t-rigs usually with some kind of creature. It will do a great job with the 1/4 oz jigs, but I think the 3/4 oz c-rigs might be pushing the limits a little bit. The heaviest thing I have fished is a 1/2 oz football head and trailer. It did a good job with that but I don't think I would go much heavier. I really try to keep my wights in the sweet spot but if your ok pushing the limit I think it could get the job done but may be a little underpowered.
  23. I think this pic says it all. If its worthy of a pixy it must be great.
  24. I have the 714 and 764 casting models. As others have said the 714 is less powerful than you would expect from a true MH,and has a soft tip with more of a mod/fast action. The 764 on the other hand is exactly what I would expect and it has grown on me as my favorite of the two. I use it for big worms and has really been great. I think it would be hard to find a lighter more sensitive rod in that price range. Plus it is very comfortable to hold and looks good too.
  25. A good trick to avoid wasting line is pull out as much line as youll need to make a long cast and then put electrical tape on the line across the spool. This will prevent the backlash from going very deep and making a huge mess.
