  1. I have the Diesel 7'2 MH and I love it. I have it paired with a Shimano Citica 200e and it's been a sweet little combo. I've caught numerous stripers and largemouth on it....handles all of them like a dream. I've fished a thunderstick on it mainly but I've also thrown a jig and small swimbait on it. It's a great rod. I will be buying more of them.
  2. I definitely love spinnerbaits and love my technique specific set up, Elite Tech Target Spinnerbait rod and a Curado 200E7...I can put that spinnerbait pretty much anywhere I want with it. However, my question is about color and size. I love the basic white war eagle with silver/gold double willow blade in 3/8oz......I fish mainly clear water. Should I downsize or is this pretty much a standard size bait. I do have a finesse war eagle or two that I've done well on in 5/16oz....For some reason I can't find that bait in basic white...thought that would be a killer Also, so the swim jig is just as effective? Do you fish it the same, straight retrieve with jerks here and there, slow roll, etc? I may try these as well.... why are they preferred to spinnerbaits?
  3. It's all a matter of personal taste. I drink a lot of wine with snobs and folks who know nothing at all about it...I fall somewhere in the middle so my palate isn't the best or the worst. So, to me, a Cabernet that I think is great might actually be garbage or middle of the road, or it could be a top rated cab that I can't begin to understand. SO, I drink what I like(and what I can afford)...I still enjoy it no matter what the reviews say or what someone else tells me... So with Shimano and Lews I can say I've owned both but the only one that makes sense to ME is Shimano...the Lews just doesn't rate..Does this mean one is better? Well, I'm no pro but I like Shimano, period. Some like Lews...good for them... they can have it. I'll stick to what I like and what I think is best, and for me, that's good ol' Shimano! I know a guy who got rid of all of his Curados to get Lews...so what do I know I still ain't gonna be that guy!
  4. Tackle Warehouse, Bass Tackle Depot, Fishermans Factory Outlet
  5. Walmart, Spiderwire EZ Mono, cheapest price on any mono there and the best in my opinion. I use it all of the time. Never had any problems with breaking off or memory. Good stuff!
  6. Thanks Jeff, congratulations.
  7. Congrats on the boat! I miss mine for sure. Personally, I like a longer crankbait rod. I have the Powell Composite Deep Cranking rod and it's 7'11. It's the lightest, sweetest cranking rod I've owned or seen to be honest. I like the longer rod for the long casting of deep cranks. I use a Curado 200 E 5 which has the slower gear ratio. You don't have to get a Powell but I would recommend at least a 7'4 and up for the casting distance.
  8. I'm sure a lot of you know that Sportsmans Warehouse went through a bad financial period and was forced to close several of it's stores including the one that opened here in Roanoke, VA. We were pretty disappointed to see this happen because they had an excellent selection and a lot of higher end baits that stores such as Gander, and Dicks just won't carry. I'm speaking of Mattlures, Huddelstons, Jackall products, etc.... They came back to Roanoke, great! Well, since it's been open it has not restocked once and it's been months now. I've been in there 9 times and still no new stock. Every time you ask an employee there what is happening, they just say " Yeah, we're still waiting on the truck". There's only so many times you can hear that without starting to wonder what's really happening here. Personally, I love the store. I must say though, this is no way to reintroduce themselves to this market. I have to wonder how many folks like myself are fed up at this point and have just stopped going. I hate to see that and hope they get it together. I would hate to see them leave again. Meanwhile, I'll just keep going to Gander and Dicks, and of course, ordering from Tackle Warehouse...love TW ! What's going on Sportmans Warehouse?!
  9. 2 and up...Now that I'm starting to fish some tournaments I'm excited every time I go out and catch fish that would help with a limit. It gives me hope for the tournament anyway....
  10. I had one of these rods in 7'6 M/H and it wasn't bad at all. If I were buying a 7ft rod though, I'd be getting the Powell Diesel Glass from Tackle Warehouse. Powell makes top notch rods and this one at $70 is the best thing going anywhere near the price. It's much better than the BPS rod you're considering. Take a look at least before you make your decision.
  11. I wish. I didn't get in time for my trip last night. It was supposed to be 2nd day air but hasn't arrived yet. Scheduled for delivery today. I'll give you an update asap. I did have another good night with my Powell diesel rod though... That thing is great! Looking forward to trying that shimano though. Let ya know my friend!
  12. I just bought the Yum Double Up but haven't used it yet...it's my first A-Rig. I may try it with the Huddleston shad but thinking the swimming fluke will be a good bait. Any other suggestions? Also, Yum has the one with the willow blades attached that looks amazing.....My question is this, is this rig an all year round bait? I'd like to throw it all summer and give it a chance...if so, where, around docks, points, parallel to rip rap banks?
  13. I have some of the Pumpkin Ed jig heads that stand up...I don't have the Pit Boss but the Craw Fatty....would both be good on that jig head?
  14. Powell Diesel Glass or the Powell Composite Deep Cranking rod. Both very hard to beat. Both unreal for the money on each end of the spending spectrum Powell rods are just hard to beat, period.
  15. I love War Eagle spinnerbaits. They make a 5/16 Finesse Spinnerbait that casts very well and has a smaller profile. I've caught some good fish on these. I would check out War Eagle and Northstar for sure.
  16. Me and my lifelong friend have gotten into swimbaiting and so have these smallies apparently! Thank you Huddleston!
  17. I own the Frog and have had zero bites on it. I just got the whopper plopper in the loon color...pretty awesome bait but nothing on it as of yet. My buddy owns the craw and it looks wicked but I don't think he's done anything on it as of yet.....I love these baits but haven't seen any action yet....
  18. Well at least I'm not the only one that had this issue! LOL. In fact, I bought two Shimanos from a guy that switched over to all LEWS. This is what got me so curious about why he would do such a thing. Well , I posted my experience so no need to go into it again. I absolutely love Shimano, right out of the box. I have one REVO that I will soon be parting with to get another Curado. I haven't tried that STX or SX. I have the S and it's been pretty sweet. I haven't had it long but it's been a good one!
  19. This is a question that I had today as well. I wanted to go to s spinning outfit for my plastics but I wanted one that was tough enough to throw heavier weights as well as the light ones. I was going to go Sellus but I went Convergence.....I guess we'll see next week when it arrives! I'll be glad to give you a report. I think it will be a great rod. I wasn't going to invest a ton in a spinning outfit so I bought the Sedona 2500 and the Convergence. I think it's going to be great. Have a great weekend!
  20. Nice work....it's fun catching em' on jigs for sure! I love it myself. Congrats. I wish I had a pond like that close by!
  21. Yeah, I never meant any offense toward Charlie at all, just never really have seen any serious fishing on his show......I lived in Manchester NH for a short while and I met several new englanders that were quite similar actually, very loud and pretty wild and crazy. I enjoyed my time there and found the folks there to be pretty darn cool to hang with. I'm sure Charlie is no exception.
  22. I had a difficult time with the Lews I bought....lots of backlashes and I just couldn't adjust to it....My Curados and Citicas have been nothing short of sweet and easy to adjust....What's the secret with the LEWS? I did love the lightness and how small it was....loved the handle too.
  23. Thanks for the info, I'll definitely throw this bait more. I agree, the Hudds have such a subtle action and look very natural in the water. I love the Hudd!
  24. I had one of these baits but wasn't crazy about it to be honest. I do know I didn't like it pretty much from the first cast and ended up giving it away. I thought it looked pretty good though. It has a small profile which is nice. I'm trying to remember what I didn't like about it but it's been a while. I use Mattlures Baby bass and the 6" Huddlestons mostly. I love Matt's and Ken's baits....both top notch! I'm just starting to appreciate the Osprey baits as well. The Osprey has a great action due to it's elongated tail section...really gives it a thump and nice side to side action.....
