  1. Hey guys, need your opinions here... I have a new Dobyns 795 for swimbaiting this year, mainly throwing 6" Hudds, Opsreys, slammers, etc...nothing huge. I just got a new Chronarch 100B and really want to use it for this combo as it looks and feels great together. Any reason why I shouldn't use this reel for this? It's one smooth little beauty for sure! I've used a Revo S and a Revo S(inshore) in the past and both have been great for this size swimbait.... Thanks guys!
  2. I disagree with the credibility part...Powell has solid credentials and a proven reputation. I personally wouldn't pay $400 for a rod no matter what company made it...just me.
  3. I'm planning on trying Sunline mono this year, can't remember which one, the $33 dollar one on TW. Any opinions on this mono? Heard great things. I'm throwing 6-8 baits..1-4 oz....
  4. You can probably get a better deal than $199 on that BB1 Pro...Look around and save some money sir!
  5. I just ordered the Dobyns Champion 795 Swimbait rod...heard this was also a fabulous A-Rig rod...
  6. Heavy is a relative term. These Powell Diesels are not bad rods at all. For the money, they are pretty darn good. Are the Max and Endurance rods better? Yes. But if you're on a budget and need a decent rod I think you could do worse than the Diesel very easily. I had the 7'2 MH rod and I caught a load of bass and stripers on it throwing a thunderstick....it's an awesome rod for this purpose! It never let me down.
  7. This does make sense. Maybe when they were first introduced there was demand for this change and this is why we're seeing it go this way. I didn't mean they should make these for swimbaits at all of course. I just like the smaller reel with higher line capacity and tougher guts. However, I've done very well with Revo S. It throws a Hudd for miles! lol...I think the Lews BB1 Pro or Inshore will do the trick. I like the braking system concept on that BB1 Pro...sounds like a winner!! Thank you for your response!
  8. No experience at all with that series but I have the deep cranking rod and it's pretty darn awesome...this is my second one. I sold the first because I needed cash. i don't get sentimental about my equipment. I will say that it feels a little hollow if that makes sense. I still dig it though.
  9. I really love the Revo Inshore for Swimbait fishing. It's small and light but holds more line than the Revo S. The gear ratio is what I like the most, 6.4:1. This ratio seems to work best for me with my swimbaits that I use. I noticed that all of the Inshore reels coming out now are all faster gear ratios and none are offering this 6.4 other than Lew's and possibly Daiwa if they still make the cheaper inshore reel they came out with. Anyone know why this isn't offered these days? I'll probably just buy the BB1 Pro and be done with it.
  10. Tim Horton, Randall Tharp, Scott Martin, Byron Velvick...met Timmy and Byron and they were all class. I haven't me Randall or Scott but I like em and they seem like good peeps as well.
  11. I've never owned an Okuma reel but if you're looking for a decent reel and you have a tight budget, you might check out the Shimano Cardiff 300. That's a nice reel that's not too big and not too small...casts well. If you aren't throwing heavy baits, say more than 2 oz, you can probably do well with a standard sized baitcaster.
  12. I was moved by his story and all that he does for the kids. He seems like a tremendous person and he doesn't fish too bad either I was happy for him! Very humble too...Congrats to Randy!
  13. I remember watching Jerry when I was young and I loved his show. I was really just getting into fishing back then but I remember loving his voice...very calming and it just became the voice of fishing for me. Of course I love Tommy Sanders and Zona too. But more to your comment, it's a pretty interesting question. I have seen a show with a segment that has a professional female angler and she's pretty sharp. She would definitely make me look silly on the water. All I know is if Charlie Moore has a show then a show hosted by a female shouldn't be out of the question! LOL. I'd tune in but I love most shows about fishing so it wouldn't be a stretch for me personally. I play pool and love to watch the pro women on TV....fishing works too!
  14. I love it. There's a lake here in Va where me and my partner go and we just pray for high winds and rain..when it's blowing and pouring they eat up there!! we always have great days there when this happens. If it's sunny there it's usually a bust but we did have one stellar day last spring where it was sunny....just never know! But I love to fish in the rain!
  15. That Triumph is a good rod. I don't think you'd be disappointed in the least. For the money it's really hard to beat. The new Kistler Carbon Steel's are good rods as well if you're staying around the 100 dollar range...
  16. I've owned a few of the Revo S reels and I've loved them but not had the new generation Revo. The BPS PQ is a good reel but I prefer Abu over BPS. Just my preference. My PQ was nice looking and did cast well but it started making a grinding noise on the first trip out. This did not seem to affect the performance which was great but it bothered me enought to return it. I upgraded to the Johnny Morris reel and had issues with that one as well. I won't order another BPS reel. You may have better luck than I did and others seem to love them too. Just my two cents. BPS was a pleasure to deal with I will say.
  17. Usually as soon as I start telling the story
  18. Maybe where I fish here in Va is different but I haven't found the A-Rig to be particularly productive or to be magic fish cathing machine...Not sure why they couldn't use it. A lure is a lure is a lure....in my opinion. I think pros can catch fish on anything. It's not the lure that's so important as is the ability to consistently find fish....that amazes me more than what they catch em' on. I don't think it's unfair at all.
  19. Welcome to another NH fisherman! I never got to fish while I lived up there. I used to play a lot of pool at Boston Billiards in Nashua...cool place! I Where do you fish in NH? I lived in downtown Manchester.
  20. Welcome, nice smallie. I lived in Manchester for a little while. I love it there this time of year!
  21. It's a shame really. Pathetic. My fishing partner dropped a rod in a lake that we regularly fish that's fairly remote and far from where we live. There's a game station not far from the lake. Well, my partner realizes he's lost it only after returning home, a Shimano Calais and a Carrot Stix rod. Naturally he's upset about this. He calls the game warden(conservation officer) the next day and guess what? A guy found it and turned it in. He told the officer he knew he'd be sick if he lost something that nice and hoped it would be returned to the owner. We picked it up on our next trip up to the lake and it was just fine. NOW that's how it should be done!!
  22. Because I seem to get grief on here when I disagree with authority or corporations I am hesitant to respond but I am driven by some demon inside of me that makes me do it....can't stop it! So I'm in agreement with this . I buy my license each year so I don't get a fine(1) and to help support conservation efforts and support of VADGIF(in my state) so they can continue to provide their services. So when they use their authority (or abuse it rather) to turn that around on us sportsman and fine us over a "technicality" , I call that a slap in the face!! SO, in closing, if you can produce the license at the time it's asked for there should be no fine, period!! If they have the time to stop and ask you for it they have time for you to walk over and get it out of your bag, truck, car, etc..... Do I keep mine on me? Yes. Have I left it in the car before? Yep...and I was asked to produce it on one occasion when I did so and there was no issue even though I had to go and get it. Not a true story but could be : I can just hear the officer in conversation with his wife that evening...something like this I'd imagine..... Officer says " honey, you'd be proud of me...I fined this fisherman today over not having his license on him" Wife says" Oh, that's not unusual is it"? Officer replies" No, but this guy did have his license in the car and he showed it to me". Wife says " Well why on earth would you fine him then"?! Officer replies as he puts his hands behind his head and leans back in his chair, chest out " Honey, I followed the law, to the letter . I have to show these fisherman who runs the show in these parts , ME "! Wife replies " Okay Barney Fife, whatever!" True story and one I will always treasure .. . I was out in the middle of a fairly large creek here in VA...a conservation officer approached from the bank and asked me to show him my license. Because I was busy fishing and enjoying my day and, knowing the law , I told him I had it on me but if he needed to see it he would need to come out and check it. He went back to his truck, put on his waders, and he came on out. He was noticably irritated about this but hey, I was doing my thing and didn't have a lot of time that day. He checked it and my ID...he wished me luck and left....this was priceless! Killed my lunch break but had to respond...sorry guys
  23. Yeah, I take it all back. I think the OP screwed up and deserved what he got. Come to think of it, I really enjoy paying the $30 dollar shipping cost. In fact, I'm going to write a letter to both UPS and FedEx to personally thank them for all they do and for making shipping so darned afforable in this day and age. I'll probably also request that they raise the prices because, now that I've read all of this, I have discovered that I am indeed cheating them out of money. I will probably write a similar letter to BP when I get done with those. Thanks for showing me the error of my ways guys!! It's always a pleasure!
  24. I do see your point and certainly there is never just one side to any story for certain. You're right, it's possible that the OP didn't do a great job of packing it. I'm just saying that I believe most of us on this forum appreciate quality gear and know how to handle it. That goes for shipping it as well. We want a perfect product and I think we all strive to make sure our fellow members get the same thing when we trade and sell items. I always think" if it was me, how quickly would I want this and how exactly would I want to see this item secured when it arrives". I like to think that everyone here has that mentality and so far I've never had an experiece that made me think otherwise. As far as cost to ship items, I think it's based on other factors than just a standard formula. I do not know what they are but I doubt UPS or FedEx would tell us that. And I know for a fact that they can charge less because they've done it for me. ...So has the post office by the way... True Story here... I went in to FedEx two weeks ago and the guy at the counter was one that I was familiar with. I had an 8ft tube...I jokingly said, hey it's around 40 inches or so..he laughed and said, OK! He didn't measure it at all. And I shipped that tube to OREGON from Virginia...for $14 bucks....he didn't even measure it. (I thought this was reasonable) Now, I went in this week and shipped a rod to Pennsylvania....7 1/2 feet...didn't know the girl at the counter, guess what ? She measured it, weighed it, and charged me $23 bucks....now, how does this work? Well, all I know is we are at the mercy of these companies as the common man...they charge what they want and there'snot much we can do but I'll NEVER side with them on anything...that's just me. I don't mean to argue with you, just stating my opinion as I know that's what you were doing. So, we have differing opinions on the matter. Still a shame to see this happen. I'm sure it could have been avoided no matter who's to blame....now that I will stand by!
