  1. I wish the E series was still available and in the 6.3:1 and I think all Curado problems would be solved. That's only my opinion but so far I am very pleased with my Curado I . It casts very well but it seems a bit more touchy than my E series or Citica E series reels. So far I am still impressed with the size of the I and the casting....pretty sweet reel. At $139 wow, amazing. If I had more cash I'd get some more at that price...
  2. I've never broken a rod in my life but I doubt many warranties that offer replacement are that much cheaper. I think a lot of people focus on that big statement about Powell not offering a warranty at that price point but it's a quality rod as well. Owning several I speak from experience and personally I've enjoyed them more than any rod in that price range . For example, the *** hurt my hands after only a few hours ..the Diesel doesn't. Both offer quality at a reasonable price....just offering a suggestion to the op...how many rods at the price he's looking for are worth buying a warranty for anyway..
  3. Sorry guys, I didn't quote exact price...found the orra at 88 shipped, new. I have chronarchs, curados, citicas , and a lews ...don't really care what reel around that price, just want a decent quality reel thats going on an extra rod ,used little, one purpose...probably in the next few weeks. ..thanks for the responses so far.
  4. I really like the Powell Diesel rods. I like all Powell but for the price it's a great rod. Who needs a warranty at that price anyway? My experience with the Diesel line up has been nothing but positive and mine have held up very well to stripers, catfish, and bass. It's really an incredible rod at that price point. Powell does not make junk at any level. You will hear differing opinions of course. If you check with the fish ranger you can get them for $49 bucks right now....this is the first series, not the new ones. I don't have the new one yet...may pick one up to compare at some point. The Inferno I have not held...The Max and Endurance are great but much higher in price.
  5. Hey guys, just like the title says I may purchase one of these in the 7.1:1 ratio. I have an extra rod that I would like to throw a decent reel on for buzzbaits. I don't use buzzbaits much but want this combo to be designated for that purpose. Found the Orra SX for under $100 new on Ebay and figured it couldn't be a terrible reel, right? Any other sub $100 reels in 7.1:1 recommended?
  6. I'm surprised to hear your local tackle guys tell you that. To me, I say buy the best that you can afford and enjoy fishing with it. Once you've bought enough you'll know what fits you best and what you enjoy fishing with most. If you can afford high quality gear and enjoy what you bought then I say you bought exactly what you should have. Good on you for that! Let no one bring you down! Enjoy it sir.
  7. Night fishing is my favorite kind of fishing for bass. I also look better in the dark Seriously I love to throw 12 inch power worms in black or black grape. I also throw storm jointed thundersticks right along the bank..reel slow and steady listening to the rattle and get ready for the explosion. Wait until you feel resistance and snap your hookset. Also, large wake baits like the ms slammer work well...bbz 6 inch or 8 inch floating shad..6 inch is great for me. Spinnerbaits are great too...I wake them closer to the surface on moonlit nights. Have a blast.
  8. It's pretty awesome. I am wondering if he would have done it at that time if he hadn't already done it once with success earlier in the tourney especially coming into the day behind. Either way, I suppose it's that kind of thinking that separates these elite fishing pro's from the rest of us.
  9. Both the Chronarch E and the Curado I cast and fish very well. For that price I'd say it's a toss up for me. I like both. I haven't had the chance to use the Curado I as much as the Chronarch of course but initial findings have been very positive indeed. It's a very smooth reel. I still prefer the Chronarch B over any Chronarch yet to be honest. Sweet reels they are, were, are
  10. All good points guys. I guess I hold everyone to the standard that I work hard to provide. Certainly I am not attacking his integrity yet as I do expect to receive the reel. Just questioning his ethics mostly. Like most everyone here I try to provide the service that I would want. Once I sell an item I send a thank you message and tell the buyer my plan on when I will get to the post office and when they should expect a tracking number and this is 9/10 times the next day. I want the buyer to be happy with the entire transaction which includes communication, fast shipping, good product, and hopefully appreciation for that kind of service. If all of that happens I'm happy and hopefully generating repeat business. Thanks for the responses and taking the time to read my rant ..
  11. I'm sorry to bother you guys with my pain but before I do I'll say my buying experiences here on the forum have all been excellent and I thank everyone here for their efforts to maintain a friendly and trusting environment. Thanks to the moderators who ensure that feedback is kept up to date as well, Jeff and the rest of the guys, thank you. So I wanted a BB2 reel and found one on the bay...great price on one and no bids up til the last few remaining hours. I go in late in the auction and win it at a bargain price. Yay. The seller has 100% feedback so no reason for concern. However the shipping time and estimated delivery was between March 31 and April 6th? Now I won the auction on Saturday, paid Sunday. Why so long? This guy does not have an Ebay business keep in mind...I sent two messages and finally got a response saying that "handling time is generally 3 days" To me that says I am giving myself 3 days to be lazy if I want to be before boxing and shipping your reel...the other part was that it should arrive within 10 days of the end of the auction and he would get me a tracking number soon..... REALLY?!!! First of all, PRIORITY MAIL is 2-3 days across most of the country and a reel has never cost me more than 8-10 bucks to ship and I mean to anywhere in the country. Japan gets it here quicker than 10 days folks. Anyway, I am surprised that he has 100% feedback and he may not after this. If this reel takes 10 days to get here I say bye bye 100% or at least no feedback. Does this sound unreasonable? I wanted a great deal but I could have paid the extra money to get one and get it here this week. I always ship next day, priority to anyone and I pay for that....cost of doing business I call it! Thanks for reading...
  12. I fish a lot at night and it's not fun threading micro guides after a break off , I can tell you that. I much prefer regular guides all around. To each his own.
  13. Yes, "damaged" is a poor choice of words. I just understood it to mean that the rod had been used and was being put back in the original plastic that it came in, just that the plastic obviously wouldn't be perfect after tearing it to remove the rod. Personally I would spend the extra 30 to get a new one but in the interest of saving the OP a few bucks I just suggested it. I doubt the rod is hurt if they aren't advertising it to be damaged itself. I understand the concern of course.
  14. Update, found Cardiff 300 A for $85 on Ebay...good price!! If you buy that used 7'6 on Amazon for $95 and the Cardiff for $85 you are doing very well! That's under $200 bucks and you can use it for stripers, absolutely. I catch stripers all of the time on my smaller bass rods with no issues so this rod will handle them very well.
  15. I've ne Nice price! Good looking out A-Jay...
  16. 7'6 Heavy (GS-C-761H) is the model number...this is on Tackle Warehouse website. Go to Casting Rods, then select Okuma and you will see the Guide Series Big Bait rods... This set up is a good way to get into this cheaply but I understand your hesitation. This style is notorious for not yielding immediate results or great satisfaction right up front. The baits are awesome and fun to have and the set ups are cool..but, by no means is this a huge numbers producing style most of the time. It can be a quality producer and often is. All I can tell you is that once you hook your first fish on one of these baits you will be hooked as well. Good luck and post pics! That big girl in my pic there was caught at night on a 9 inch King Kong wakebait
  17. I would suggest a Shimano Cardiff 300, $109 I think..maybe cheaper on Ebay. And an Okuma 7'6 H Guide Series Rod. Go to the Tackle Warehouse website for the rod, $5 2nd day air shipping...Around $140 total for that...the reel you can get from them or Ebay, probably on a 10 dollar difference. This set up will be a bit more than $200 but not much and will be ideal for most all swimbaits you're going to throw...pretty awesome set up. A 3 oz bait isn't going to treat any of the set ups you have very well or be much fun to cast either. You'll want heavier line for those baits so you have to consider capacity issues there. Good luck. I'm no expert on these things but I love swimbaiting and have had quite a few set ups in my time. I have one now and getting the very same one I suggested to you for a few specific baits I throw. I feel I need two set ups these days.
  18. X2, I think Bill is a fine ambassador for fishing. He really cares and does a lot to help folks with their fishing. He's just a down to earth, classy guy.It pains me to see him aging but it's nothing any of us can stop. When I met him he couldn't have been nicer. Same goes for Hank and Jimmy..very nice guys and spread a positive message as well. These guys are legends in our time and I'm so glad I can say I've met them and shook their hand.
  19. In Fisherman, Major League Fishing, The Bass Pro's, Hook and Look, FLW Outdoors...hard to pick just one !
  20. Walk up behind the guy and use a taser, score. Otherwise, get your wallet out because just like the Chronarch B's...these green curado's are becoming the stuff of legend...and with that, legendary ideas of what they are worth. Yes, great reels but I gotta say my new Curado I has me wanting to order more. $142 range, no brainer.
  21. Check FFO , fishermans factory outlet for that line...I think they have a lot of Spiderwire mono at rock bottom prices. Good folks to deal with too. I've used the ez mono and super with good results. Never have trouble with it.
  22. Wow, sounds like a great opportunity to have some fun with swimbaits. All suggestions for swimbaits above are good. I do think you'll have fun with the wake baits there. I just got the SPRO Rat and that thing is just awesome looking. It's fairly light and the profile isn't huge like I anticipated. It would be a perfect bait for you to try. Try a CL8 Water vole or Mighty Mouse from Tackle Warehouse too, those would be killer for you. You could also try the Huddleston weedless shad. This is a great little bait that you can reel straight in or let it fall to the bottom and throw around brush without getting hung up. It's a smaller profile that will land you big fish as well as average fish but you'll catch plenty of average fish on big baits too. Chances are whatever you're going to try isn't being thrown in that lake so show them something new....have fun! PS: Those CL8 baits will not require a swimbait set up. The Vole and Mighty Mouse are both fairly light baits.
  23. I haven't had my Curado I on the water yet but I've been throwing 1/4 oz spinnerbaits a good distance with it out in the yard...It's a sweet casting and feeling reel. I paid $142 for mine on Ebay...can't beat it for that money in my opinion.
  24. Citica all the way. I do like Shimano but not a "fan boy" as some are called I suppose. LOL. It's easy to like Shimano, they make good quality, dependable products. My Citica E's Curado E's, Chronarch B's and E's, and now the I series Curado are all terrific reels. It may just be my limited experience or bad luck but the few Bass Pro reels I've owned, the PQ's and the JM Signature series have fell way short of my expectations based on the stellar reviews given IMHO. Not once has this happened with Shimano so far. Again, just my opinion.
