  1. I prefer War Eagle spinnerbaits, light wire and quality components. I have done very well with those. White with gold and silver blade, white and green, white, blue, and green are pretty much my go to colors anytime. 3/8-5/8 , double willow, colorado and willow combinations. They have the finesse version which I like and weighs 5/8 oz. Casts like a bullet but smaller profile. I think you could do well with these. Just get a couple and start casting. You'll learn how to work it and when and where to throw it to get best results. Good luck and have fun!! There are tons of articles, posts, and videos on the subject here for reference. Almost forgot, I don't know much about chatterbaits myself but I've tried them with much less success than spinnerbaits. I'm sure they have their place and know there are guys who love them and catch tons of fish on them.
  2. So far I haven't had to worry much about it with my Tatula, that thing casts like a beast right out of the box. No backlashes, period , no matter how I cast it our set it. It's like autopilot...pretty sweet. There are a lot of reels that I won't mention that aren't like that at all at a higher price point. I'm becoming a convert for sure. Also, the Zillions are priced considerably higher than the Tatula. I'm sure they are awesome .If you want to spend money to hear that click no one would stop you but I don't find it necessary for my fishing.
  3. I have 4 Diesels and zero problems. Great rods. Sorry to hear you had trouble. It's not common with Powell no matter what level rod you buy. Good luck To you.
  4. I have thought along those lines but on a simpler scale I would say, never broken it down so much. I do agree it's an expensive sport/hobby whatever someone wants to call it but like you and others have said, the true benefits are intangible. I've spent thousands on gear, had boats, went on weekend trips, tournaments , you name it. I've spent way more money than fish caught but it's worth every penny to me and I couldn't care or bother to think about it in dollars I won't get back. I'll gladly continue to buy more stuff and hopefully in a few months buy another boat if my discipline holds out. LOL. There's nothing like being out on the water for me. I love the whole deal, pulling the boat to the lake, backing down the ramp and seeing it float off the trailer...starting it up and the smell of the outboard...all of the anticipation to get to that first spot and hoping for an awesome day or night of fishing...once that first fish is hooked all of the effort and money spent is forgotten. a day or night on the lake is hard to put a price on and those that get to do it all of the time are darn lucky. Others think us fisherman are crazy and maybe we are but that green fish or brown fish(whatever your preference) holds sway and we can't do a darn thing about it. I usually only think I wasted my money when I get skunked!! LOL Oh well, I've spent too much already on the trip for tomorrow and I can't wait to get there....worth it even if we don't have a spectacular day. It's the entire adventure that makes it what it is..getting up at 3, two and a half hour drive to the lake, seeing the sun rise...hitting the water until dark...hopefully we can catch some good fish inbetween! Worth it already and I'm still sitting here at work....very focused of course...
  5. Nice tats man...tight lines! This country still has a lot of folks who have very conservative and who are very closed minded to anything outside of what they consider to be the norm. Every day I am surprised by just how far WE HAVE NOT come in regard to a lot of things in our "modern" society and world. In a lot of ways I feel like we've taken a lot of steps in the wrong direction. Political correctness for example has become rampant in this country and it's sickening to me. You can't even hurt someone's feelings without worrying about a law suit. Look at the race issues we still have too. Unreal and sad but true. Get out there and slay the fish and make sure you get your tats in the pics too....very cool sir.
  6. Though I was of the opinion that things were already over the top I will say this ranks up there fairly high in the over the top arena. Awesome looking rods. Ridiculous price but if you have the money and want to buy them who's to condemn you for that. I would say I was tempted but I'm saving for another boat so most of my money is going into that basket until I have enough. Also, I don't think I would ever buy one rod that was that expensive, just me.
  7. It's absurd the lengths we have to go to just to keep our gear and our vehicles safe and secure. It's pretty sad after all of the blood, sweat ,and tears put into getting these items that someone could just come along and tear them up or worse, take them from us. I used to dry store my first bass boat at a marina at the lake and I would just call when I was coming down and it was in the water when I arrived. Pretty cool , right? It cost about $500 a year then which was a deal because I didn't have a truck. Well I called one day and shortly after getting off the phone I got a call back...someone had taken my stainless steel prop and everything in the compartments which had my lake map, light poles, paddle, cushions...etc. Back then I wasn't really set up to buy all of that in a day to make the trip happen so it was another two weeks before all was settled and I was back on the water. Nothing happened again after that one time but I was always worried after each trip. I never left anything in the boat after that but that was a pain at the end of a long night or day fishing. I was afraid I might drop the prop in the lake trying to take it off so I reluctantly left it behind.
  8. That's sad. I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope it was insured and you have all info you need. We were out Saturday night and when we returned someone had snapped both of the poles on the trailer for my buddy's boat that had the lights on the end for easier loading and visibility. Why does this happen in our sport? Is it jealousy? Is it other fisherman or just vandals? I hoping the latter but this pole snapping has happened several times to my buddy and to others we know at the same marina. I don't get what pleasure can be derived from this. Shameful really. Good luck with recovering the boat! I hope you are able to.
  9. That's a great offer. Believe me, that doesn't happen in my neck of the woods unless you have a resume and try out's first. Seriously! LOL... It's like some elite club and if you ain't in, you ain't getting in. Hope you find a good person to fish with that you can enjoy fishing with, win or not. Have fun and enjoy the boat.
  10. I heard the Pflueger Supreme XT was a great reel for throwing light baits. I saw them on Ebay for $119 shipped.
  11. I was using mono when mono was all that was available and I still do. I don't use braid for anything. Mono for spinnerbaits has been great for me and I rarely lose a fish on one....If I do it's my fault, not the mono.
  12. I bought matching rod gloves for them but that's as far as I go...looks nice I guess but Iike them much better when the rod gloves are off and my line is getting wet....

    Hudd 68

My only question about the Hudds is this, why the increase in price every single year now? I started out buying these at 14.99, then they jumped to 19.99 and now 25.99 . I love Huddleston and think Ken is a great guy and gives amazing service but how long before the Hudd is priced too far out for the common man? Though I think they are a great producer, they aren't particularly resistant to chips out of the paint or repeated catches on the same bait. In one trip I can tear a Hudd to pieces and often do. So,not saying the Hudd doesn't produce or isn't worth 25 bucks but it's getting harder for me to buy back up baits these days at this price....I know, gas is higher, oil, cost of living...yada yada...but these increases are indicating next year $30? then $35...getting a little pricey in my opinion. Just an observation from a guy who loves and buys Hudds....
  14. Awesome! I love fishing the blade myself. I fish War Eagles pretty much exclusively. I've had great success with them. If you haven't tried a War Eagle pick up a few. Spinnerbait fishing is very addictive. Have fun!
  15. You have some good options there in your list. I've hear good things about those Cabela's rods so the 7'5 sounds like a good choice. The Veritas could be a good choice too. Not owning either I can't say that with any factual certainty of course. I've owned a lot of cranking rods from 7'6 -7'11 and most have been composite rods. The glass rods I've owned have been Lamiglas and I've loved them. I like the forgiveness in the glass rod and the flex that helps to keep a fish buttoned up with the trebles. However , I have enjoyed all of the cranking rods I've owned and had success with all of them from Powell, Castaway, American Rodsmiths, Lamiglas, Halo, and the list goes on. I like the longer rod for launching baits with ease...just my preference though! Good luck with your purchase and enjoy it!
  16. Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate all of the insight and opinions. I probably won't go this route based on the prices of some of the more popular reels right now..the Tatula looks good at the sub 100 price on Ebay. I'll keep this reel in mind as reviews have been pretty consistent in favor of that reel. Never been a Daiwa fan but will try this one soon.....Why not! If the Tatula works as well as the reviews say I might get one for my cranking set up this summer as well.
  17. I know this might sound crazy but, what I try if they aren't super spooky is casting beyond a visible fish and bumping it with the bait. Sometimes they will dart away but sometimes they'll turn and look at the bait and grab it out of anger I guess....if I can get one to look and it hangs around I will do this until it finally takes the bait in. I do this on beds all of the time to the females and it works for me. Have fun and catch a bunch.
  18. I am looking into this as well. I'm considering the Phenix Glass rod in either 7'4 or 7'10. I think it might be the ticket for me this year. Looks like a sweet rod. $149 I think. I saw on Fish Ranger that you can get a Skeet rod for free if you buy another at $99. Two rods for $99!...The Mag Crank is 7'10 and free if you buy another rod. The spinnerbait/worm casting rod was an awesome spinnerbait rod for me when I had it. I may buy another and select the free cranking rod...why not. Good luck with your search!
  19. I have and fish with both but all I know to help quantify why I believe it's better is simply the way they feel in my hands and the way they fish. I absolutely prefer the Curado. I don't know, the Curado to me feels more solid and has been a more consistent performer for me and my preference of the two. That being said I do think the Chronarch E is a very good reel. I do understand that the Curado E is commanding a pretty high price these days and certainly I would buy more if I could get a better deal but so far my Curado I has been great and I'll spend 140 on another one of those new before buying a used a Curado E for 180 or so.. Citica E's are great too and apparently the G's are pretty darn good from what I hear . I don't even mind the G Curado's...they've been great for me too though a lot of people trash them pretty bad. Good casters for me anyway. I don't think there's a wrong or right here and maybe the specs are pretty close or exact in a lot of ways. For me I prefer Curado E, others may disagree. Either way, all reels we've discussed here are pretty darn good .
  20. Good info. If I find one at the right price I'll give one a try since I haven't done so.
  21. Fair enough. The BB2 should hold plenty of 20#. I think Senshi is thin diameter so I could do that.
  22. Citica I ? Is there one? Love the E..haven't tried a G but they aren't as nice to look at and don't feel as nice in hand. I think Tackle Tour gave it a better review than the E though. I hope a newer and better Citica is to come. I don't turn my nose up at Citica's at all. Great reels.
  23. Okay, I'll bite. What is the reason exactly for the heavier line? is it integrity of the line from use with heavier baits or is it because a lot of guys are fishing for 10 plus trophy largemouth? The lake where I fish is strictly smallies and so far none over 6 pounds have hit the deck...we know there are bigger ones but I don't suspect any over 8....could be though.
  24. I'm going to try 15# Senshi for my 6 inch Hudds and Ospreys this year. I think it will be fine. It's open water where I fish these. Using a Lews BB2 and IROD Jr Swim Rod...Anyone using Senshi for this or other applications? First time for me but read nothing but good things...
  25. I was just commenting on the Curado here since the OP was and several others had some questions or suggestions as to what might be going on with the new I and why it might be priced low at this time. I've fished with Chronarch E's and while they aren't bad, they aren't Chronach B's or D's..not even close. And the Curado E's are better reels than the Chronarch E, without a doubt (in my opinion). The Curado I is also a better reel in my opinion.
