  1. Yeah, the President is all over Ebay right now in the $50 dollar range, new, shipped. It's a very smooth spinning reel and will serve you well. Plfueger makes solid reels.
  2. So far I haven't found a reel that absolutely won't but I had the least from my Chronarch 100B's. Still my favorite reel I've ever had. I now find the Tatula to be a very easy casting reel and see very little to no backlash from it. It's a very good reel in my opinion.
  3. Yes, Glenn did an excellent job and I can't wait to see more from him. He certainly made me a believer with his simple approach and detailed explanation about the components and why they do what they do so well. I've seen some folks mention they are going to piece together their own ned rig but I'm following his advice and getting exactly what he suggested. It sounds like an easy way for me to slowly get into finesse fishing. It's not something I do now or have enjoyed in the past but this could change my mind. I will try it. My question is with the heads being so light anyway, will the weights make that much of a difference. Is there a "go to" weight that will get it done without worrying about changing for this or that...I just want to tie one on and experiment with the TRD colors only and not worry so much about weight...
  4. I would almost rather be skunked throwing a bait and using a presentation I like than using a drop shot.
  5. To explain a little further, I would like a rod that I can still throw a 6" Hudd, Osprey, or Rago...SPRO Rat (which is actually light), any small to medium lighter hard bait or wake bait... I want a rod in 7'1 to 7'3 ...Fast action? Or Extra Fast? Heavy I am thinking? I was looking at the 7'2 MH *** Green and thought that could do the job.. 7'3 H *** Black...Kistler Carbon Steel 7'3 H.... ?? Any other rods you guys suggest? Sub$100 up to $130 range, nothing terribly expensive.
  6. The 4 reels for me that I've had zero casting issues and the very least if any amount of backlash have been the Citica D,E, Curado E, Chronarch 100B, and the Tatula's. Lew's seem very moody to me....unpredictable I'd say. The only two Lew's I've had good success with is the BB1 and BB2 and I just traded my BB2 so no going back to Lew's for me, ever. I've done it a couple times and won't go back again. Not saying you can't have success and cast great with them but I won't even try anymore. For as little time as I get to fish I can't go out there with a reel that's "moody". I need consistent , worry free casting. I've been casting baitcasters for a long time so I'm not too bad it but I absolutely believe there are brands and models that are easier to fish with than others. Not sure what makes them that way.
  7. good seller, no worries with them!
  8. You can throw the bbz rat on your rod too. I have two now and they are easily thrown on my Powell 723 Diesel. Lighter than I expected. Fun bait for waking and even cranking down a foot or two.
  9. If there are trout in this lake it wouldn't hurt to have a Huddleston 6" trout tied on. We slay the smallmouth on this bait on a mountain lake here in Va. The smallies absolutely choke the Hudd, believe that! Good luck. I wish it produced as well on my home lake but haven't had a bite on the Hudd at Smith.
  10. I really like the show. I do agree that some of the drama is played up but it's still fun to watch. I'm glad they don't get together and sing Kumbaya on each show...what fun would that be?! lol.... And I love to see those beasts on the deck of the boat, amazing fish.
  11. To be fair, the retail on the Tatula is $149 and the Type R is $199. Of course they can both be had for much cheaper but I don't think these reels are exactly an entry level offering just because you can buy them at entry level prices. That's a bargain if you ask me. There just isnt anything inbetween it and the Zillion so it's easy to say that based on what is available. It's a mid-tier Daiwa and not high end but calling it entry level is probably a stretch. So for $99 the Tatula is a lot of reel in my limited experience. Call it what you will but it's a winner in my book. It casts well and is hard to backlash, very smooth, easy to adjust....what else could you ask for at $99?
  12. I now have 4 Tatula's and wouldn't have that many if I wasn't impressed by the first one. Okuma rods I've had and like, never had a reel from them. The Tatula can be had for $99 on Ebay and to me, that's a no brainer.
  13. I've met KVD, Aaron Martens, Byron Velvick, Scott Martin, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, and Kelly Jordan....all nice guys. Some at the Blue Ridge Brawl here on Smith Mountain Lake , one at Sportsmans Warehouse, and Hank at the Game Dinner in Lynchburg. Hank was the keynote speaker and he really moved us with his story and message. He's a great person and hard to forget. I will say that KVD was in a bit of a hurry and brushed us off at first and we weren't impressed but later on we got to chat and he actually apologized for the brush off....pretty cool.
  14. Thanks J...I'll take a look. I do want to master this.
  15. I use a Diesel 7'2 MH extra fast. It's a 3 powered rod so it has a nice soft tip but plenty of backbone. I lose very few if any fish on spinnerbaits or treble hook baits with this rod. It's been perfect for both. Chatterbaits I don't throw but I'm sure they would work well too. I've also used M powered fast or moderate rods for spinnerbaits with success. I've had lots of spinnerbait rods but this Powell has been perfect. $49 a piece right now at Fish Ranger....who needs a warranty at that price!! Mine still haven't broken yet guys...haven't fallen apart, no guide issues, ....still fishing
  16. My question is does the fish know how pretty it looked to slip the bait from my hand to the spot or can I just cast it to the spot with the same accuracy and finesse and expect a bite that way too I only say that because I secretly hate the guys who make that cast look so effortless. I am a fairly coordinated guy but can't seem to grasp how it's done or why....help.
  17. I guess some of these reels are doing this but the one I had didn't. Granted I only had it out once. I did cast a lot and I mean A LOT with it however before the trip to practice with different brake settings to see what I could do with it. It casts a mile and it's very smooth. I am surprised to hear so many weird things happening with these. It appears that Shimano put a lot of money into this product and with the perception now of these reels being if'y at best they might have a " reel " problem on their hands marketing wise. Ever since the demise of the green 200E they have been all over the place with the Curado line and now the Citica is following suit. With the prices being quite significantly higher to step up to the Chronarch I'm not sure what they are going to do with that segment of the market if those folks can't afford the Chronarch and are afraid to buy the Curado. I am not one of the folks dissatisfied so I still think the reel is great and if I go back to Shimano will buy again if it's there to buy . I didn't sell mine because of casting issues or noise..just switching brands entirely for the heck of it. Why not make a change. I can always go back. Still love Shimano.
  18. My Powell Diesels pair up really well. Not light as a feather but not heavy either. Again, heavy is very subjective in today's modern world of fishing gear and the never ending quest to be the manufacturer of the newest, lightest reel or rod on the market..."now at 1.2 oz, the lightest Shimano ever made" Eventually it just can't get much lighter.....fish what's comfortable for you and enjoy it.
  19. That must be very difficult for you LOL
  20. The answers you seek are only known by the bait monkey. Seek him out and he will help to guide you down the path to enlightenment.
  21. I see that my Tatula has it, that's about all I notice. I don't really see anything to love or hate about it. I think it's a sweet reel. I'm super impressed with it. It's the first Daiwa I've owned and loved but I've never had any higher end Daiwa reels so this is probably the reason I've not been a Daiwa fan all these years. The Tatula might be my gateway reel into the higher end Daiwa's but my wallet also has to be up to the task and right now it just isn't Still saving for that boat
  22. Yes, I have had a few War Eagles eventually break from being repeatedly hit by bass but I believe it's that very same thin wire that makes that bait so special. I love this spinnerbait! It holds up for a good while but does have to be bent back into shape often. Worth the effort definitely worth the money.
  23. Mine is on sale in the Flea market for $110 shipped with Shimano reel cover, used once...doubt it depreciates like a car Just sayin....
  24. I like the color of the "dream master classic" . I'm going to order it and throw it at night this year. That color works for me at night. We shall see how it produces. Looks good anyway.
