  1. I have not owned an Inferno but I've owned Max and Diesel series Powell's and I even like my Diesels better than the ***'s. People build the *** up to be such an amazing rod but I didn't find it to be so spectacular for me...to each his own. Powell makes awesome rods and I would put them up against anyone including Loomis and Dobyns. *** doesn't even make it into that category in my opinion. Get an Inferno , Max , or Endurance and I think you'll be quite pleased. Or wait for the new *** with the full grip. It could be a great rod for lesser money than you'll pay for a Powell if saving money is your ultimate goal. I'm not bashing ***'s so I please don't get your blood pressure up if you're an *** fanatic. Simply my opinion, doesn't make it right or wrong...I just fish with what I like..right now it's Powell and Loomis.
  2. Yeah, impossible to pay $149 for a Citica while the Curado can be had cheaper right now. It's a little crazy and a little frustrating because the Citica E was like a goldmine when it came to quality for price. The new Citica I looks awesome but as we've said, for $150? Not so sure. I'll buy one for closer to $100 whenever that chance comes along. I can wait until that time comes Unless that dreaded monkey dictates otherwise.
  3. Yes, they are great folks to deal with! As mentioned above, awesome staff. Jacob was a pleasure to talk to and he was extremely helpful. Had my rod in two days. Fed Ex Saturday delivery which I was not expecting right before Memorial Day. Outstanding!
  4. I enjoy drinking and I enjoy fishing but I have never associated the two in any way. It might be a cliche' in a country song but I don't see it happening with serious fisherman. I've had two bass boats and I've never allowed alcohol on either. When I get my third boat it won't be any different. First of all I don't have time to drink when I'm bass fishing. Secondly, I fish a lot at night and drinking and boating don't mix in any way after dark. You need to be 100% at night for your sake and others. I would say the same for daytime fishing. So, no... I have had beers while riding around on a pleasure boat though, many times...the boat driver was not drinking.
  5. Yeah, both very good reels in my opinion. I cast my Curados and I say "Wow", I cast my Tatulas and I say " Wow" ....likem both quite a bit.
  6. 2 hands for me. I also see pros cast with right hand and reel with right hand and cast with both hands. I don't think there's a wrong way to do it, whatever works and is most comfortable to you.
  7. Thanks for the replies. Sounds like they're making their way...I hope they'll be readily available soon. I want to try one. It's pretty exciting to see Dobyns release a rod in this price range. I've only ever owned a Champion Swimbait rod that I got a good deal on. Never had a Savvy.
  8. I hate to bring this up again if it's been talked to death but does anyone know what the deal is with this release...they said May, hmmm. Anyone know if the release has been pushed back?
  9. Went something like this..."Hey Dave, you ever par the back nine with a 7 iron?" "Hell Cup, I never even thought to try." I'm right handed..cast right, reel right..casting and spinning..no issues in 35 years yet. Just wait for the reel you want to come in as you want it to be. Sounds like the baitmonkey is leaning on you pretty hard. LOL
  10. I consider all bass fun to catch but to me a quality fish is anything 2 pounds and up.
  11. You've seen this name pop up a few times here but I also use War Eagle pretty much exclusively. Awesome spinnerbaits!
  12. The Powell Diesel is $50 at Fish Ranger, call Cody...the 723 would probably do for an all around rod...It's MH but a 3 power, XF but has a nice parabolic bend that keeps fish buttoned up well. I have 3 of the 723's and use them for everything pretty much...moving baits with trebles and plastics....very good little rod no matter what you hear....I have 6 Diesels total and love em' all...never broken one either
  13. I love both the Curado and the Tatula. I found that the 6.3:1 Tatula seems to pick up line fairly quickly and would be a great reel if you want a do it all reel. The Curado should treat you well also. Not sure about the STX Revo as I've not owned one. The Revo S reels I had were great. BTW, I haven't paid more that $99 yet for the standard Tatula if that helps you at all Check the bay...
  14. I really liked the one I had too. Very nice rod for sure. And for the nay sayers, it didn't break on a fish or snap on a cast..just fished like a rod is supposed to.
  15. I was trying to figure out what bait he was smacking them with too...further comment on the show below...just my two cents Edwin can be so dangerous when gets on the fish. I like his style for sure and he's definitely a force. I didn't think what Marty said was very fair in regard to the decision to move when Edwin saw Kevin come in. He kind of made it sound rude in a way. Edwin wasn't counting his chickens and I respect that but I think he knew he had enough fish without looking for brand new docks so he was protecting his area as best he could. All's fair in love and war they say. "Okay Kevin, just squeeze on in here with me at these docks if you want, let's catch em all together" NOT..
  16. This is a good rod and I really liked it. It was light and launched cranks a good ways. Very good and the price is right. I'm using the Powell Diesel Glass right now and it does the job for all cranks very well but at 7' it leaves me wanting more length. I'm debating the Halo and the Glass rod from Phoenix....
  17. I wouldn't blame BR for taking a position of "No"pn a deals forum" for the reasons mentioned above. Also, I seriously doubt there are very many of us on here that don't already know every site there is and what's on sale when. I think we all spend plenty of time researching and looking around with the baitmonkey doing the driving...he takes us all plenty of places. While I respect the sponsors and appreciate what they do here, I still see nothing wrong with someone pointing out where they got "item z" for "price x". It wouldn't be realistic for everyone to only support the loyal, however limited sponsors we have. I have on numerous occasions seen that someone was looking for something and then sent them a PM letting them know " Hey, I saw this over on "insert retailer" and thought I'd let you know.... We can all still shop where we want , remain appreciative and respectful of our sponsors, and still keep our fellow members informed of deals without ruffling fleathers. People are going where the deals are no matter what. If a sponsor doesn't have a deal as good as "retailer x" then guess where I'm buying my item? Just how business is and my money only goes so far, not sure about yours... If you want to fall on your sword and spend more with a sponsor just because you appreciate what they do for us members then that is your right to do so.
  18. We fish from shore at one of the reservoirs here in Va and on the last couple of trips I've found fish like this and they are guarding beds there. Could be the same thing where you are. I tried a few things and finally tried a suspending jerkbait that I could stop on the bed area and then give a quick jerk...I finally got every fish I saw but it did take a while. I spent nearly 30 minutes or more on one fish..some only took a few minutes of doing this. Just keep trying multiple baits to find the one that irritates them the most. The fish I caught wouldn't pick up a jig or ned rig off the bed and wouldn't chase a moving bait like a spinnerbait or shallow crank. Try a suspending jerkbait like I did that has some flash..might work for you.
  19. Ike did it
  20. Yes, I took mine out last night and threw shallow, medium, and deep diving cranks just to try it out and it handled all of them very well. Pretty light and very sensitive rod for glass. I enjoyed it. All I took was Diesel rods last night and I must say they are pretty impressive for $50 each....what a steal.
  21. Indeed it is...and lots of politics too. Better be prepared to bs and leave your principles at the door.
  22. I think so, at Smith Mountain I'm pretty sure the bass now only eat plankton...they don't bite anything I throw LOL...It is a pressured lake but somehow good weights are brought to the scales week in, week out. So pressure can make it tough but if you have it figured out you can catch a bunch. I wish I had it figured out for sure Smith can be ridiculously tough for me at least but I doubt pressure is entirely to blame.
  23. I've heard good things. Sounds like a good deal. Can't find them for that price anymore that I know of.
  24. Yeah ,I'd love to know how to get more time on the water and less time at work and still afford to live.....million dollar question right there! LOL. I do play the lottery...so far, still working and wishing instead of fishing the majority of the time. It's sad but true.
  25. Manns Baby 1 Minus -Tenn Shad Spinnerbait -(white/chart, white) 6 inch worm (red, black, green, or grape) Rapala floating jerkbait -silver or gold Jig and Pig -Black and Blue
