  1. You're done man! Get ready to have a formal meeting with the bait monkey where he goes over his corporate agenda with you and your finances. LOL. Congrats on your first swimbait fish! Nice bass man!!
  2. Just for fresh scents mostly.. Powerbait usually when it's super hot outside. I might fill up the drink holders with juice from my Gulp Worms from time to time Keeps me in the zone.... LOL
  3. I'm interested in these rods also. I thought about ordering a 2 piece Basspara spinning rod. With shipping under 100 bucks from Japan. The seller seems to be a big seller on Ebay and has 100% feedback. I currently have two things coming that haven't arrived yet so my decision to buy the rod will also be based on these two items reaching me Based on what I've read here about the Basspara I think I might reconsider. Just wanted something portable and different considering I don't fish that much spinning gear, right now, none. Anyone here own one of the Basspara's? Not looking to break the bank on spinning gear.
  4. Hey guys, I've been watching a lot of the Megabass YouTube videos and it looks like all of the I Slide glide baits have these bright chartreuse strips on top. I'm sure these are added partly for video making purposes but it also crossed my mind that it helps the angler to see what the bait is doing on the end of a cast and all the way back to the boat. Pretty cool, yes. But, what are those strips and where can I get them? All of the videos are in Japanese so I have no idea if these strips are mentioned. .. Anyone know?
  5. Yeah, Bill is a Pro, period. He used to grind it out on the tournament trail like Roland and the other guys. If I was at his point in my career and I had access to fishing waters with the numbers of big bass he catches I would do it too. Why fish the big lakes trying to put a show together? I don't feel he has anything to prove and I guarantee he doesn't feel like he does. His shows are meant to be informative and he really does a great job of teaching. He cares deeply about the sport and does all he can to help other anglers learn and succeed. I respect the man and appreciate him. I admire him of course, he's spent his entire life dedicated to doing the thing he loves most, fishing. I wish I could say the same! As far as your PB coming from a private pond that's where my came from. A 25 acre lake of pure fishing heaven. It's still a huge bass no matter where you get it. Be proud! Don't let anyone try to diminish your accomplishment.
  6. I definitely do some research and watch a lot of videos. I read tons of reviews as well. I don't have a ton of money so when I spend $20 plus on a bait I need to be pretty confident that it's a proven fish catcher and also something my gear will handle if it's a swimbait. I also consider if it's something I will use enough to justify the cost.
  7. I had the LTB Sweeper Spinnerbait rod. So far the best I've ever owned and I regret selling it. It's a fine rod for sure! I have the E6X Loomis now and love it as well. Awesome rod. I don't own an NRX or GLX rods. I want the Megabass spinnerbait rod next....it's on the list.
  8. Hoping so!! There are two pricey baits I want The bait monkey is giving me the thumbs up!
  9. Throw a 6 inch Hudd in bass pattern, probably select for some bigger fish that you're looking for but still catch some smaller ones too. I'd guess there are other species there but I agree that not seeing any sign of bluegill or smaller bait fish is odd in such clear water. In my experience that's odd anyway. Sounds like a cool little spot to fish though.
  10. The Cure, The Smiths, New Order, My Bloody Valentine, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin ..so much more
  11. I found a site that's advertising the Pinnacle Producer for $56 and change shipped. Don't know their reputation but never seen that reel new for that price anywhere before. big supply shop?
  12. Consult the bait monkey, I think it's year round !
  13. I used to love the V&M Super Needle in Black Grape, Bubblegum Junebug, and Black. Can't find them anymore. I also used to use the 6 inch Mister Twister Black Grape Phenom worms and can't seem to find those. In my opinion there are far too many now and it just makes my head spin when I look at the wall of plastics at Gander or Sportsmans....just ridiculous. Yamamoto and Power Worms these days...
  14. I have a 7'3 Swimbait rod and getting another 7'6 and 7'9. 7'3 is plenty long enough for a 5-6 inch bait. I just picked up a 7'3H to throw smaller glide baits in the 5-6 inch size I like the smaller single hooked baits on my 7'3 H Airrus Swimbait ( Hudd and Hudd 68, Osprey TT 6 inch) It's rated up to 3 oz and handles them just fine. On the longer rods I throw the hardbaits like rats, snakes, larger 7 inch Ospreys and 7'6 does the trick fine. 7'9 is fine too. I plan on throwing the DEPS 175 and similar baits on the 7'9. I don't throw any 4 oz baits or heavier so an 8 foot or longer rod for my purposes is too much.
  15. Tough one..Hell on Wheels, Justified (sadly done) , Mr.Robot, Suits...Game of Thrones is implied..lol
  16. Just ordered an i slide 135...idle hands are the bait monkeys tools!
  17. Good info, thanks for that. I'm looking forward to the s waver I ordered. I might be getting a smaller bait, deps 115. .wanted a larger and small bait to start with since I've never fished a glide bait before. Not a huge investment and should give me best of both worlds. Disappointed to hear you had a bad experience with Savage Gear glider. It's such a great looking bait and the price is right. ..good luck with th h2o , never picked one up myself. Looks good. You should pick up the U2 gill from mattlures, awesome little bluegill bait..
  18. Thanks Derrick, love the Crius. It's a sweetheart. Came in yesterday, along with some River to Sea dragon fly topwaters. Abu Morrum on the way.
  19. Thanks guys..168 S waver is on its way.
  20. Thanks Tom and Master, I appreciate the info. I've looked at the S-Waver as well. I don't mind spending money on baits at all but since this is a very new bait for me to experiment with I will try to stay within or under the $30 range. I'm really looking forward to trying these out and don't know anyone locally that fishes them. Once I get one and hook the first fish on it I know the bait monkey will be whispering to me all the way back to the boat..."nice fish, time to buy more of these...and spend a little more this time cheapo"... LOL
  21. The more I see of these baits the more I'm intrigued. For my first glide bait I am not going to spend a load of money so I'm considering the Savage Gear bait, the one around 6 inches in length. Does anyone have experience with this bait? What is your overall experience with Glide baits and what makes one better than another? Savage Gear, Megabass, Deps....the savage gear looks good on you tube and looks like a quality bait to me... Matt Allen has a cool video on different types of retrieves that he uses...very cool... Thanks guys.
  22. Massrob you're probably right. It's a cool bait and does have a unique sound to other top waters I've fished. It probably does work well most all of the time but I swear there's every other lake in the country and then there's Smith Mountain...LOL. Fish at Smith seem to like plankton more than anything else..ha! For me that is...
  23. this week, 3 dragonfly baits , 3 packs of stand up yabbies, and a jake from River To Sea, an ABT Black Camo Rat...a *** Crius coming in tomorrow and Friday buying an Abu Morrum...pretty good week!
  24. I bought one and tried it but never caught a fish on it. To be fair I never fished it at night or when the top water bite was really hot so my odds were probably just as good with it as any other noisy top water. It's a cool bait for sure. I might buy another one to put in my creature feature box...lol ..snakes,eels, birds, rats, mice,...... whopper plopper
