  1. Thanks guys for all the replies. I do like the reputation of the rapala floaters and will get one but was hoping for something with more weight.
  2. I was looking to add a floating jerkbait to my arsenal and ordered a lucky craft flash minnow 115mr on TW. Description said slow floating but the box says slow sinking. I'm guessing the box is corect. Not a big deal but I still want a floater. What are some good floating models?
  3. i would stay away from those swimabits as well. there's a few proven ones that can be found for not much more on ebay as well. The biggest plus is confidence, you can throw these and know they will catch unlike the others. They will last much longer as well. I would start with the 4" and 6" bbz for swimming and a black dog g2 shellcracker for a wake bait. For an inexpensive but great glide bait is the river2sea s waver.
  4. update: after some research. i found the cardiff 300 round reel was great for beginner swimbait setups. lastly now i just need help choosing a rod. i'm pretty sure i need 7'+ but i'm not sure if medium, heavy, or extra heavy. i was at bps but the guy there just pointed me towards saltwater rods. which rod from their website can i pair with that cardiff 300. thanks again.
  5. amateur fishermen here trying to learn from my mistakes. i was fishing with a spinning rod with a broken tip so i think it's 5'5" now and using 10lb mono. i had a swivel snap tied on. i put a jackall giron on (3/4 oz) and cast. i heard a snap which sounded like my pole broke i looked and saw $20 flying in the air lol. the pole did not not break but lure and swivel were gone. was the lure too heavy for line or could it have been a nick in the line? i know it's time for a new rod/reel i've been making due with what i have so maybe that contributed? i'm getting into biggers lures. i have a buzzjet coming which i don't want to lose. So my other question is what are are some rules for lures 1oz and bigger. what lb test should i be using? when getting my new setup is spinning or baitcast better for heavy lures? if i could swim i would have gone after it lol. i fish from shore and tried to get it with a homemade retriever. basically 6 chains on a rope but it was too far.
  6. Thanks guys I guess I'm going with the 4"
  7. i'm looking to buy a buzzjet but i can't decide on the size. i fish in Rhode Island so the bass aren't huge. just wondering if one has better action or if the bigger size will get me ley6y yss strikes in my region vs the 3". i always struggle with lure size. thanks for any help. Update: lure just can in. Its a monster! Bigger than I expected. I almost feel like it will scare the bass here lol. Ill try it out and let you guys know how. I make out.
  8. I need help choosing a rod reel combo. i have a $50 bass pro gift card so I'd like to stay at that price range. I'm a weekend bass fisherman and i don't know too much about rods and reels. The bait monkey has introduced me to lures though and made me get all the different ones available. I use a spinning combo now i think i got at walmart for 20-30 bucks but i'm getting in to all different lures and some like swimbaits are quite heavy 1-3 oz. I would like to stay with spinning if possible. I am comfortable casting with it and would hate to buy a baitcaster and not like it.. So i just need something that can handle heavier lure sizes. edit: i see how alot of people felt like i do with baitcasters and once they tried they didn't regret. if that would be the best for what i need. recommend one as well. thanks.
