  1. everyones going to gut hook a bass on occasion every now and then. learn this method in the link below to remove them and you dont even have to leave a piece of cut off hook in a bass. and dont feel bad about it, bass arent the little fairies many people seem to make them out to be...
  2. as for opinions, i dont expect everyone to agree with me, i knew that writing my post. but also, i'm not the one upset someone kept a bass that was within their rights to keep, theres a difference here... Whats the difference? the bass has been caught and removed from that body of water. whether it gets mounted or eaten makes no difference
  3. here is my opinion. first, let it be said that its not your pond. it also seems no laws were broken. also, if the pond owner doesnt mind people keeping fish from his pond, then the guy who kept said fish did no wrong. him keeping that fish was not unethical or uncourteous in any way, absent the landowner mandating people release all fish. in my opinion you have no valid reason to be angry, not everyone has to agree with your way of thinking, and just because they dont doesnt make them unethical. and i dont even want to hear an argument about "they couldve gotten a replica made". replicas are cheesy and fake looking like theyre mass produced in china and sold at walmart, cost more money, and i would choose and recommend a much realer skin mount made from the actual fish over a replica any day
  4. Trilene XL has serious fraying issues, I used to use it a lot, its good mono other than the fraying. If you want a similar line but better, i urge you to try sufix siege. sufix siege is what i used to replace the trilene xl i was using, havent looked back since
  5. sight fishing off a dock. a bass cruising by itself would bite every time. bass cruising in groups of 2 or more would not bite at all
  6. a member here proved you could catch a bass on a boot string, so yeah theyll pretty much strike at anything that moves that can fit in their mouths
  7. firetiger color in something that makes noise. also, sometimes you just get skunked. if the fish aint there or hungry then you aint catching them
  8. i agree totally, i stretch before any physical activity or work. it just simply helps prevent a lot of soreness later on when you finally sit back and let your body relax for the day. great advice
  9. its certainly possible, youre also likely to pick up a bunch of other species, which myself i dont mind catching any species of fish willing to bite my hook. the best way to bass fish with crawlers is to sight fish for them... this is simply not true. the 2nd biggest bass i ever caught was on the hook like this. if not the white perch wouldve easily stolen my night crawler in seconds...
  10. i use these to hold chicken livers on the hook when catfishing, it has worked very well, and i always get my rubber bands back, the catfish dont seem to swallow them at all i fish weightless baby rage tail craws on the surface like a topwater, such a versatile little bait...
  11. the one thing not mentioned about Fish Chris' method here is that he is usually sight fishing and casting his crawlers close to fish he can see. and he will try to get away with as small a split shot as possible if needed at all. and honestly, i usually hook the crawler twice through instead of just once. if youre not really fast to set the hook, the bass will inhale it right off the hook, and the hook will never make it in the basses mouth sometimes. i've witnessed this more than once in shallow clear water with bass...
  12. heres a little known secret, Lake Gaston has a nice walleye population... HAHA, North Carolinian works as well. Especially for us NC State Wolfpack fans
  13. for some, it doesnt require a significant belief component, as you put it. for some, its 100% fact that bigfoots exist. theres people on all different sides of the spectrum from 100% believers to 100% non-believers and everywhere in between, this is my point. you dont find it a bit odd that large and small human-like footprints are found in remote places and rugged terrain? im talking footprints 2-3 times bigger than the average humans in the middle of the woods where you wouldnt suspect any human would walk around barefoot. or small child-like footprints where you think someone would be an idiot to let their kids walk around barefoot. also casts show there are differences in these tracks from the anatomy of a humans foot. you may say this doesnt prove bigfoot, at the same time its proven they arent human. then what are they from? what animal has hands to throw rocks? i can go on and on if i wanted to. you may view it as weak evidence, others view it as strong evidence. you get my point? just because you may not believe, doesnt mean the evidence is weak or should be discounted. i cant sit here and say i am 100% a believer, but i can say theres enough evidence out there to make me think twice about it and believe in the possibility bigfoot could exist.
  14. theres plenty of evidence out there. its up to you to research it or believe if its real, fake, possible or somewhere in between. apparently you(and many others) choose to just ignore it, which is fine as the topic doesnt interest everyone and thats understandable.
  15. while some have supposedly been shot on trail cams, they avoid them like the plague apparently. there are a few theories as to why. also stories of the cams being destroyed by bigfoot. the BFRO was never actually going to film one on the show with how things took place. though it did appear that BoBo may have had one on thermal imager before he fell down some deck stairs in florida. there are several thermal videos out there as well claiming to be of bigfoots. when possible evidence is fond, many non-bigfooter people are quick to dismiss it because they dont want to be ridiculed... i believe you mean the Patterson-Gimlin film...all kinds of stories and rumors about that too, being a bigfoot massacre and all...
  16. i totally believe that bigfoot could exist, at the same time, im not willing to say i am 100% sure either. there are so many stories out there to read about sightings and stuff, i find it hard to peg every one of them people a liar. how do you explain barefooted tracks that go in a straight line(human tracks are side by side) with a stride that cant be matched by humans? If its a bear walking on its hind legs then how do you explain the long arms that go down to its knees? What else in the woods has hands that can throw rocks, small and large. I could go on and on with evidence that points to big foot, but am unable to verify it myself. I've came across an upside down tree in the woods before. Used to take a dirt trail through the woods(by foot and bicycle) as a shortcut to a friends house when i was younger, one spot there was a small dirt mound in the middle of the trail and I always had an uneasy feeling of being watched in that immediate area. I've heard stuff charge through the woods creating absolute havoc and tearing stuff up, then it just stops and you see or hear nothing. One of my cousins says he had a bigfoot try to open his front door and come in his house a few years ago late one night, and that luckily he had it locked at the time, watched it through the window until it eventually walked off his porch, across the street and into the woods. While i can understand people not believing in bigfoot, theres a lot of stuff out there that makes me think people should atleast keep an open mind about it...
  17. i hate snakes. absolutely terrified of them, no shame in admitting that. but unless i feel it poses a threat i will leave it be. i have killed a few copperheads in my day, including a couple babies. one was at my aunts lake house, right outside the front door she came across while working in the flower bed, couldnt have that, done. another at the same house, in the garage, took the splitting maul to it. i once remember my sister stabbing one to death with a #2 pencil on the front porch of my grandparents house. but usually im too scared to bother with them and will leave them be. for instance, if i am walking in the woods and come across one, i wont bother it, make a wide path around or turn back the other way.
  18. My aunt and uncle have striped bass mounts over 20 years old that are still in great shape today. this means nothing, the same would apply to a replica as a skin mount ---------- i prefer skin mounts all the way. replicas look like toys to me that are mass produced in china and sold at walmarts around america. some artists may do some great work, but they look anything but "real"
  19. anyone ever fish sleepy creek lake?
  20. white or pink trout magnet
  21. i use 15-20lb mono for frogs, ive never had an issue. while braid may be preferred by many, i dont think its a necessity. as i use mono for everything. I'm thinking/guessing the problem bassmasstaa is having could be knot related, or an issue with the line like maybe it was frayed or something, or even too tight of a drag for the line being used...
  22. it wouldnt take up much space or weight, or take much special care, to carry a spring scale of some sort with you. i have a spring scale with a hanging hook, but its harder to use on bigger fish hooking them under the gills, and i dont like the idea of poking a hole in their lips. last year i upgraded to a knock off boga grip style scale that has grippers instead. just something to think about. some people may frown upon spring scales, though im not sure weigh, i prefer them and often feel more confident in them i would say 5lbs is a fair guess on that fish, but wouldnt go no higher than that, its probably in the 4's somewhere...
  23. great fishing in NC. you will have plenty of big lakes to choose from being in such a central area. and most people are nice enough to let you fish their private ponds as well
  24. get an ugly stik lite pro. i have a 5'6 L 2-pc that i use for trout, pan fish, bass, and yes, catfishing. catfishing was a blast with it, caught one that was 6 1/2lbs on 6lb sufix line, reel was a pflueger trion. the rod handled all of them with ease, and is a blast when you hook bigger fish(so long as you aint targeting the giants cats, handles eaters just fine). i got mine at walmart.
