  1. I look for vegetation and grass growing out of rip rap. There always seems to be a bass sitting nearby when I find that.
  2. I have caught a couple on perch patterns over the years, but I have better luck fishing with craw and shad patterns.
  3. I let the bladed jig sink to the bottom, and then slow roll it back. Sometime I stop the retrieve and let it sit on the bottom for a few seconds then start the retrieve again.
  4. This year I have caught them on spinnerbaits, swimjigs, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, topwaters, and t-rigged plastics. The bite has been tough and the bass want a different bait on each trip.
  5. I like fishing lakes, but I like rivers when I'm going after smallies.
  6. Group A finished up. Now that we're into the work week the lake should be more settled down.
  7. Congratulations on the jig bass!
  8. Heavy boat traffic, wind, and the lake level fluctuating for day 1. Sounds about right.
  9. The ole chartreuse and white spinnerbait strikes again.
  10. Both shoulders have been operated on to repair tears, and the left one currently has a small tear in it that is not worth going in to fix. I cracked my right kneecap falling on riprap when I was a teenager, and they couldn't do anything with it except to let it heal on its own. Starting in the late fall and going through to spring I need to work out at least 2x a week. If I don't, the arthritis makes them hurt like heck.
  11. I don't show favoritism. All my rods are equal. Except the one with the microguides. That one, I could part with.
  12. That is scary.
  13. Sometimes I'll fish with the same bait all day, and sometimes I change after 10 minutes. I go with my gut.
  14. I don't use them a whole lot. I usually cast out a Mann's one minus and bring it back very slowly, so it will stay on the surface.
  15. Ultravibe speed craw in black / red flake and green pumpkin in the spring. During the summer watermelon red seems to work best. Sometimes I think it's the size, but other times I think it's about the color.
  16. Zoom finesse worm.
  17. Crankbait, topwater, spinnerbait, lipless, and chatterbait. I have at least one of them with me at all times.
  18. Last weekend sustained winds between 20 and 25 mph with gusts between 30 and 40 mph. Weekend before that sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts between 20 and 25 mph. During the workweek just a slight breeze. Something is really wrong here.
  19. I'd be pitching a t-rig into brush or timber. Start shallow and work your way deeper until you find the bass.
  20. An empty beer can.
  21. Nice catch! I bet your drag was singing with that one.
  22. So far this year I have done absolutely nothing fishing with jerkbaits. Spinnerbaits, swim jigs, crankbaits, and traps have all produced in the ponds I have been fishing in. I think I will give them a rest for a while and try them again in a couple of weeks after the weather settles down a bit.
