  1. Most of the snakes I run into are not poison. Every once in a while I will run across a copperhead, but I don't think I've ever ran across a timber rattler, or a cottonmouth.
  2. 15 lb Big Game for moving baits around 1/2 oz and over. 10 lb Big Game for smaller moving baits.
  3. My torn up plastics get a new life as jig trailers. Plastic worms I will keep trimming down. Once the hook is more than 1/2 way past the center of the worm I get rid of it.
  4. Years ago we were fishing a lake with a lot of trees growing along the bank. Back in one corner of a cove there was a dead egret hanging out of a tree tangled up in someone's fishing line. Ever since I saw that I try to pick up some trash each time I go out, and when I run across line I cut it short if I can't reach the main tangle.
  5. I've had better luck with jigs on the bottom than with swim jigs this spring. Around here the bass have been charging at the swim jig and then bumping it. After that they turn around and go back where they came from in the vegetation.
  6. I went out for about 7 hours Saturday morning, and it was very different than in April. There was no wind early, then a slight breeze developed. I managed 2 bass on top, 1 bass on a jig, and then 7 out of the vegetation with a weightless 6" worm. I've had both of my spinning reels spooled up with line since the end of March, but it has been too windy to use them. None of the bass were over a pound, but at least I got to use the spinning tackle on this trip.
  7. I don't get surprised any longer when I catch a cat. I carry a stringer with me so I can take it home.
  8. I usually carry 4 rigs out of 7 with me when I head to the lake. Jig T-rig Moving bait Spinning reel for finesse baits
  9. I use the palomar knot for soft plastic hooks. Anything with a treble hook gets tied with a uni knot. Also make sure the line is wet when you tighten it down.
  10. I would contact the new HS and flat out ask them why they need an answer so fast. My question to your current school would be if the other JH head coaches are going to be HS asst coaches? If they are and they are refusing you the same opportunity then like you say it could be a case of politics. If that is the case I would go with the new school.
  11. Most of the time it's a 1/2 white.
  12. Welcome to the forums!
  13. When the odometer hits certain a milage the engine light comes on in my Toyota to let me know its time for maintenance. I'm old school so I still do my maintenance every 3000 miles.
  14. You don't catch something like that every day.
  15. Dragging allows you to leave the bait in the strike zone longer.
  16. Casting a 1/16 or 1/8 Rooster Tail will catch just about anything in the pond. It has saved me from the skunk many times.
  17. Around this time of year a lot of the water I fish begins to fill up with vegetation so I fish mostly shallow running crankbaits that don't dive deeper than 3 or 4 feet. By slowing down the retrieve I keep them about 1 to 1-1/2 feet deep. Just deep enough to run them over the top of the coontail. As far as color goes, most of the time I just use a firetiger, craw, or shad crankbait.
  18. I use either a 1/2 white , or 1/2 green pumpkin chatterbait. I'll either be using some kind of craw trailer or a single tail grub. Most of the time it will be white on the end of my line.
  19. Sorry to hear this. It's always hard when you loose a friend that is a member of the family.
  20. I like a 7'0" MHF for 1/2 spinnerbaits, but in a pinch I have cast them on a MF. Not ideal and I didn't like doing it, but making shorter casts and slowing the retrieve way down will put less stress on the rod.
  21. In the early spring darker colored craws seem to be the ticket. Later on in summer lighter colors work better. I don't know if it's the water clarity or if I'm matching the color of the craws in the lake.
  22. I look for submerged humps out in deeper water. I will either anchor over the top of the hump, or at the bottom of it and then drag the bait up or down the side of the hump. Not my favorite way to fish, but it works.
  23. I'll be fishing more in the vegetation. Punching mats when I can find them.
  24. Thanks for the link.
