  1. Every time I go fishing I try will pick up trash. A lot of it is old beer cans/bottles and torn packages that baits have came in. Years ago we saw a great egret hanging in a tangle of fishing line about 25 or 30 feet off of the ground. I don't know how it got up that high with fishing line around it, but it was very sad to see.
  2. There's no way I'm running out and buying a something because a Youtuber was promoting it.
  3. When I got back into fishing I made the mistake of fishing coontail with spinning tackle that had 8 lb line on it. Mr. Bass got me down in the weeds and I my gear didn't have enough muscle for me to get him out. I ended up breaking off. I think of that more as a learning experience than a failure.
  4. So sorry for your loss.
  5. We've made it up the mountain, now we have to go down the other side.
  6. Back in the late 70s and early 80s I had around 100-120 rock albums. When CDs came out I started listening to those. About 10 years ago we had an auction and sold off all of the albums. Now I stream 95% of everything I listen to.
  7. Man Alive! The last time I saw a cat that big it was in a fish tank!
  8. After my dad passed away I was going to keep his boat, but the big drawback for me was that I'd have to drive 2-1/2 to 3 hours to a body of water where I could use the gas motor. I couldn't justify the cost of the upkeep and insurance for using the boat maybe 2 or 3 times a year. These days I am fishing off of the bank most of the season.
  9. The wife and I took up photography a few years ago. Her thing is flowers, while I like nature pics. We also find recipes online and try them out. By myself I like to tear apart the lawn mower motor and weed eater motor. Yard work is another hobby of mine, but sometimes it feels more like a chore.
  10. Fishing clear lakes with grass I stick to natural colors. Most of the time I'm fishing with different shades of green. If there are a lot of trees casting shadows on the water I may be casting out a black/blue jig.
  11. I'm probably a 5. It depends on when and where I'm fishing. As a rule of thumb, if I catch a bass then I make about 5 or 6 more casts into the area. If I don't get anymore bites then I leave.
  12. I've never been able to take the cold weather for very long. When I go outside I need to layer up or the shivering begins.
  13. We got about 2" of snow yesterday on top of the 11" that we got last Sunday and Monday. It was in the mid 30s today and the weather people are saying that it should be in the low 40s tomorrow. Hopefully it will melt some of the snow before the next cold front comes through.
  14. I don't think I have purchased a jig in 3 or 4 years. My daughters ask me what I want for my birthday and I text them manufacturer, color, quantity, and weight.
  15. Welcome to the forums.
  16. Right now it is largemouth bass. I started bass fishing around the time that I got back into fishing and found that I liked casting a bait around, trying to find them, and figure out what they would bite.
  17. I'm going to try not to hook myself this year.
  18. Prayers headed your way.
  19. Jerkbaits and Lipless Crankbaits. I've gotten away from using them the past few years.
  20. In 2024 my top catching baits: Plastic Worm - either Texas rigged or weightless Jerkbait 1/4 oz Jig and craw Spinnerbait Senko type - either weightless or wacky rigged. Surprisingly, this year I hardly caught anything on a split shot rig.
  21. In winter I like to fish around dead lilypads. Most of the time I'll be using a spinnerbait, swim jig, or Texas rigged plastic.
