I use to use a 5' with my UL rig. All the weight was in the back with the reel, and the casting was not that great. I bought a 6' Quantum at Wal-mart and i like that one much better.

Had this happen this past weekend. Bright and sunny all last week and a heavy rain on Friday night. Saturday the bite was off. I think that it changes what they feed on due to the bugs and worms that wash into the water.
Start practicing with a 3/8 practice plug or heavier. Don't try for distance at first, just work on getting the plug out without a backlash. Tighten the knob on the side down so that when you hold the rod level the plug slowly drops down.
Just put on the rain gear and keep on going. I have also found out the hard way that it is a good idea to keep a scoop in the boat in case of a real heavy downpour.
