Happened to me last year. If there had not been a family with little kids about 50 yards away I believe that I would have cut loose with the cuss words.
IMO, I would be more worried about the reel than the rod. You don't want to be on a fishing trip and have to buy a new reel because the old one broke and you can't get parts for it.
Around 35 years or so. Started when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Took some time off around the time I got married and then started back up about 8 years ago.
Mister Twister soft jerkbaits. They kind of look like a slug-o, but with a more defined face. My dad gave me a pack about five years ago and I have about a dozen left.
I never use trailer hooks, I find that they tend to hang up in the weeds. I usually start off without a trailer but if I don't get any hits I will add one.
I use a heavy rod with a fast tip and heavy line.
When the bait gets stuck in the grass, I take up the slack, and give it a quick short pull, sort of like setting the hook. Usually jigs and t-rigged plastics pull right through.
Years ago I stepped on a rock and it rolled over. My right knee came down on another rock and hurt like the devil.
I ended up having a hole in my knee about 1/2 inch wide that they couldn't stitch up because it was round, and my knee cap was fractured like a windshield. It was OK around the edges, but busted up in the center.
It took about two weeks for the swelling to go down enough to where I could bend it and put weight on it.
The best one I ever pulled was when I yelled "SNAKE" while we were fishing out of the boat under some low hanging tree branches.
Best one that I ever had pulled on me was when I was fishing out of the front of a jon boat, and the guy running the motor in the back cut a hard ninety degree turn while we were sitting next to a pine tree that was partially flooded. I was covered in needles.
