In warm weather, I wear tennis shoes, or knee high rubber boots depending on where I am fishing and what the boat ramp is like. In winter I have a pair of insulated work boots that I wear when I hike around the ponds. Old rusty hooks, glass shards, and long thorns in the feet make for a long day,
It really depends on the time of year. In the summer about the only time I'm in the bag is when I need a new plastic, need the pliers, or need a snack. In the spring and fall I'm in the tackle bag a lot. Sometimes a bait that didn't work in the early morning will work in the late morning.
Until today I haven't really caught anything this year to post in this thread. This little muskie was all over a black and blue jig w/ a craw trailer. Of course I picked today to leave the lip gripper in the car.
Sometimes the larger reservoirs can still produce bass on summertime size baits, but you're correct most of the time I will be fishing with small baits. I know a couple of guys that have caught their PB largemouth while fishing with a 1-1/2" tube for crappie.
If the water is not frozen and I don't have to work then I will be out on the water. I can actually fish more hours in the winter since I don't have any yard work to take care of.
Try swapping out the blades and adding ones that are painted. Maybe it's a Midwest thing, but I've noticed this too. If I'm fishing with a double willow spinner bait, then the top blade has got to be large for me to get bites.
It depends on where you are fishing and what type of cover and structure is in your lake. If you have a lot of brush and submerged vegetation you may want to stick to shallow diving baits. Most of the time I'm using crankbaits that run only a foot or so deep because anything that runs deeper will snag.
I have a Curado 200E7 that is in semi-retirement, and I love that reel. I purchased two Tatula CT100H reels a few years back because of the issues I was hearing with the K models. I have not had any problems with the Daiwa reels. I am waiting to hear the reviews for the Curado M.
