  1. It happens more during the spring and fall around here. You'll be working a jig or a plastic bait along the bottom and feel one good thump. If you kill the action and let it sit, within maybe 5 seconds or so, that bass will come back and start swimming off with the bait. If you continue to work the bait after the thump, then no more bites.
  2. I'll fish a 1/8 oz jig when there is a lot of fishing pressure, or when there is heavy vegetation growth that is matting on the surface.
  3. Nice bass.
  4. I used to have a cane pole that was broken up into sections. You screwed the sections together to fish with it. At Fifteen feet long, you could just lower the bait down on top of the fish.
  5. Virgil Ward KVD Denny Brauer Bill Dance Larry Nixon
  6. I always rig up before I leave home.
  7. Black or some type of frog color.
  8. As long as the bait is on the hook straight you can hook it from any side. When they start getting really beat up I rig them tail first.
  9. I'm sorry. I know you posted some nice pics, but I can't get past this sentence.
  10. If the bite slows way down then I might take a break for a few days. I've done it before. But as long as the fish are biting I will be out there as much as possible.
  11. Like others have said, start on the outside edge and work in. If your in a boat and feeling adventurous, you can get up close and take a look at it. Then leave and come back in a hour or two, after things have settled down.
  12. I let my jig fall into the muck, and I let it sit for a few seconds. When I start the retrieve I bring it back with short jerks, keeping the jig above the muck.
  13. Good catching! Take as many pics as you can while you can.
  14. If I've been skunked, then I'll go looking for numbers. When I get tired of numbers I will fish for size.
  15. Hold onto them, especially if they are the ones made in Sweden. The dumbest thing I ever did was sell my dad's Ambassadeur reels from the late 70's early 80's.
  16. White Pearl Watermelonseed Baby Bass Bubblegum in early spring
  17. Are you setting the hook at soon as you feel the bite? You might want to let the bass have the bait a little longer.
  18. Only crappie caught on today's trip, but at 15" and 1-3/4 lb it's my new PB crappie
  19. I've been there and feel your pain.
  20. I can think of two bass, but I don't know if they changed my life or not. First one happened when I was around 9 or 10. Dad was getting the boat ready and I was casting a Rebel jointed minnow. I was bringing the bait back in and the rod loaded with some weight. I pulled back to set the hook, and the bass jumped. I couldn't tell how big it was, but it threw my broken minnow. Until then, I didn't know they could do that. Second one happened when I was around 15, and we were catfishing in a 3 or so acre pond. We were fishing with dough bait on the bottom. The pond was clear and shallow so you could see when the fish took the bait. I had a cat messing with the bait, I see a flash under the water, and my line starts moving off. I landed a bass that weighed about a pound.
  21. I don't really pay attention to shade or temps. The lakes I fish are starting to weed up this time of year so the shade is easy to find, and if I'm not cold then I'm good. I worry about the wind. I want to have wind on the water but I also want to be able to control the boat and not get knocked around by the waves.
  22. I have more Pad Crashers, but most of the time I'm fishing with a Spro frog.
  23. Maybe a 2? Most of the time if I'm fishing out of a 14' jon boat, I won't have any electronics with me if I know the lake. If I don't know the water then I'll be using my 2D sonar.
  24. In stained or muddy water I like orange craw, fire tiger, or black. If the sun is out then chrome to throw some flash in the water.
