I'll take a picture and then add text to the pic so I can remember the time, bait and conditions. When I get home I use the picture to update my fishing log. Afterward, the picture gets deleted unless the bass was a hawg.
I used to have a problem with jigs, but then I read that you retrieve them the same way as a Texas rigged bait. The determining factor for me is how thick is the cover I'm fishing. If the cover is patchy then I use a jig.
I can sum up my summer with one word, grass. The bass have either been in the coontail, or around it. The larger bass have been down toward the bottom, with the smaller ones up near the surface. They haven't been chasing, but if you can get the crankbait close enough they will jump out to ambush it.
That's easy. Either weightless or on a split shot rig. The bass around here see a ton of wacky rigs, and Texas rigs. They don't see a lot of split shot rigs with a plastic worm on the end.
I'll try a Zoom finesse worm or a 6" Creme Scoundrel either weightless or on a split shot rig depending on the wind. If the cover is more on the patchy side I will fish with a 1/8 ounce jig, or a Texas rigged UV speedcraw. If I can get a moving bait through the cover then I'll try a small wakebait or a small floating minnow. If all else fails I will put on a 3" BPS Stik-O on a split shot rig.
Nice catching! I've had three spinnerbaits break on me over the years. I lost the fish on the first one, the second broke as I was casting it out, and the third one broke above the R so I got the fish, but lost the blades.
A lot of the ponds I fish have water striders in them. If the water striders are just sitting there, then most likely there aren't any fish around. If they are cutting up and going in circles then most likely there are sunfish or minnows around, and that means bass are close by.
Mine is landing the bass. When the bass is in the boat or up on the bank it means I have put the puzzle together correctly, at least for that one fish.
