  1. Around here you don't need buoys. You just look for the bobbers snagged on the brush piles.
  2. Condolences for your family's loss. They are much more than pets.
  3. In the summer, I'll fish vegetation first because of the shade and oxygen. It doesn't matter what the water depth is.
  4. No way.
  5. I don't think age has anything to do with it. I think it is more about how you process what you are learning while out on the water.
  6. Around here it depends on the time of year, and weather conditions. It doesn't take much of a weather change to shut the bass down around here.
  7. No concerns at our house. The bait monkey doesn't visit here too often, and my wife and I both realize that there are a lot worse things to be spending money on.
  8. Most of the time when I go fishing I want to catch bass, but sometimes after a hard week at work I just like to get out and away from everything for a while.
  9. If I'm pond hopping I'll be fishing small farm type ponds that are around 3-5 acres in size. Depending on the weather and time of year, the bass in one pond may biting everything, while a pond around 1/2 mile away seems completely lifeless.
  10. I just turned 61. A normal fishing trip for me is getting on the water around 5 or 5:30 a.m. I usually head back in after about 8 hours. Six hours if I have really been using the trolling motor. If I am fishing from the bank, and the ponds are small, I might walk around 2 or 3 ponds before heading home around noon. I like to leave before the "lunchtime crowd" arrive at the lake.
  11. Nope. Mine was a Daiwa Millionaire 5B from the late 70's.
  12. Different shades of brown just don't seem to work around here. If I'm wanting to fish with a natural color I'll go with some type of green color. Red is another color. Once in a while it works, but I have much better luck with orange.
  13. Actually I put the car on the street while I cut the front grass as a barrier. Sort of what the highway dept. does with those big trucks. Either on purpose or from not paying attention, but some of the drivers around here get pretty close to the curb. We got footage from our next door neighbor. Older white sedan stopped right in front of their house after the accident. The driver got out looked back at my car, looked at their car, got back in and drove off. You can't see the plates from the angle though. They did have damage. That car lost a bunch of chrome, and paint. Also looks like the front end was banged up pretty good.
  14. Nope. We don't have coverage for that. I've been driving my wife's car.
  15. The conservation dept. needs to do that here in Missouri.
  16. Hot dogs, chicken liver, raw hamburger, a concoction of hamburger, wheaties, and limburger cheese.
  17. I've got 4 casting combos and 3 spinning combos that I actually use.
  18. No Megabass here. Smithwick, Lucky Craft, Rapala, Strike King, Spro, and even a few BPS are what I use.
  19. I've used duolock snaps to split rings for years with no issue. It causes some crankbaits to hunt during the retrieve, and will add a little more action to the jerkbait, and topwater, depending on the bait. I've never had an issue with a snap failing, even when snagged. If the snap looks bent or damaged I do change it out for a new one.
  20. The worst part is trying to get the hook out of their mouths without hurting them. I carry a pair of forceps with me now since the pliers are too big to use.
  21. I'll start fishing a point where it meets the main shoreline. I work my way out to the end and then back to the shore again just in cast the bass want the bait from a certain angle.
  22. Very rarely do I take more than four rigs with me. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions it will be some type of combination of these. 6'6" MH/F casting for jigs 6'6" MH/F casting for Texas rigs, weightless flukes, and weightless stickbaits. 6'6" M/F casting for lighter moving baits 7'0" MH/F casting for heavy moving baits 6'6" M/F spinning for weightless plastics 6'6" M/F spinning for split shot rigs, or very light Texas rigs. 7'0" ML/F spinning for dropshot rig. 6'2" UL spinning for sunnies when the bass aren't biting.
  23. I've been using the same set of needle nose pliers for 20+ years. I'm not sure what brand they are.
  24. I came out this morning to go to work and saw this. Hit and run sometime between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. I didn't take a picture of it, but the right front wheel is straight. Got it hauled up to the body shop and they won't even be able to look at it for 2 to 3 weeks.
  25. I haven't been watching it either.
