I was finally able to get out fishing again yesterday. Fished for 6 hours I managed 8 small bass. Most of them came on a 1/8 ounce jig worked through the coontail.
Years ago I spooled on the Stren clear blue and the Stren golden line. These days I use Big Game green most of the time. I've had fish sit and stare at all three colors, but this seems to mostly in water that sees a lot of fishing pressure.
Most of the time around here the bass will bite craws better than creatures, but a creature will work if the conditions are right. Earlier this year when we had high water from all the rain, a Texas rigged Super Hog fished in the flooded grass was the ticket.
I would start off with a weightless fluke or a weightless senko. If conditions are such that you need a weight then I would use a Texas rig with a very light weight on it.
If I'm getting sunfish bites out in open water then I usually move to a new spot. If the sunfish aren't afraid to leave the cover then I thinking there are no larger predator fish around,
Tried and true 90%

I get out on the water once a week, two or three times if I have some time off from work. With limited time I don't like to experiment.
This is what I thought of, but I didn't know the name of it. I can see a young one going down to the water's edge after a sunfish, and a big bass going after it.
I use the 4-3/8" and the 2-3/4" size floating minnow. The larger size catches bass, but the smaller size on an ultralight will catch everything. Around here they work better than jerkbaits for bass.
I tried a left handed baitcaster a couple of years ago. My brain just couldn't get used to it. After a cast I would start off trying to retrieve like it was a right handed reel. Bad news if I needed to bring the bait in quick.
