  1. http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/soft-bait/powerbait/power-minnow is this it?
  2. strike king coffee tubes or for flipping a 6 inch yum doozee
  3. try the clearance section online at BPS. they usually have older baits that are discontinued for half of the price
  4. it's most probably because their is high fishing pressure on the lake. if their really is as many docks as you said then that means a lot of other anglers. if that is the problem try downsizing your baits and line. also don't always listen to the pros as some of them (but not all) will try to throw you off. you should think of it as a river because if there is water moving through it the whole time it practically is. use a fish finder to find places underneath the current that will protect fish, such as brush piles. Also one thing you want to find out is if their is a thermocline in the lake. this is a 1-3 foot area in the water that is the perfeect temperature and has high oxygen levels for fish. just below the thermocline their is practically no fish. but not all lakes have one. i just know my lake does. its usually anywhere from 10-15 feet down if a lake has one. if you don't think any of those are the problem then try upscaling your gear. if these fish really are that big and arent very highly pressured, then try using things like swimbaits, brush hogs, 7 inch stickbaits, giant ribbontails, craws and spinnerbaits.

  6. but the owner point is different. the gammy has a round point so the barb enters more smoothly. if the hook is flatter the barb does not enter as smoothly
  7. muskie are not the biggest predatory freshwater fish, they're the biggest predatory freshwater fish in north america. Ever watch river monsters?
  8. i use gammies and honestly have never, NEVER!! had a fish be able to get it out of its mouth. the superlines work great. one problem i have found with other hooks is that the barb is to high up off the hook or to large tearing up the entry hole. gamakatsus dont do that as much. maybe though its because im just good at setting the hook. but ive had many times were the gammies set them selves and went very deep into the fish. when you have a flatter hook point like owner the barb sticks out more.
  9. its just this one small lake called snyders lake. there was a lot of overfishing for the pike there and the sunfish and perch were dying because of a disease in the water killing them off. It's in the capital region. in its history without the pike there is usually an inbalance in bass and sunfish but the past 2 years it has been much better because the pike and pickerel are coming back.
  10. my pb that was accurately measured weighed 6 lbs 2 oz. i did have one which was caught when i didn't have a scale that seemed bigger though. My personal best smallmouth weighed 5 lbs 8 oz
  11. i was fishing for bass on my lake yesterday with a medium action rod, a spinning reel and 30 lb. powerpro braid. I went fishless for about an hour which surprised me because i caught over a limit of bass just the day before. I tied on my favorite crankbait (a .5 ounce chrome blue backed rat-l-trap) and started fishing deep water because of a recent cold front. i remember after my 4th cast i felt a snag. i assumed it was a log since it wasnt letting me pull it out. then my line just shot off. instinctively i set the hook even though i still didnt think it was a fish. then nothing, i kept pulling have no idea why it wouldnt move when it started fighting again. my drag was set at 15lbs. the drag just let out line like crazy. i was so afraid of my rod snapping because i had never faught anything so large on it. after about a 5 minute fight(i wasn't trying to muscle it since i though my rod would snap if i did) i saw a big green flash by my dock. my first thought was a state record bass, since new yorks record is 11 lbs, 4 ounces but i knew my lake well enough to know it couldnt be. as i brought it up close i realized it was a pike. to say i panicked was an understatement. after trying to find a way to land it with out my net, which was 15 feet away on shore, i had no choice but let it have line so i could grab my net. when i finally landed it i was scared half to death. thank god i had pliers because i didnt even feel safe using them to take the hook out. i took its measurements, 30.5 inches and a little over 11 lbs. i finally let her go with a new respect for this fish. The great thing was that pike had been extinct for over 15 years in my lake. last year i caught a baby pike in my minnow trap. no one had stocked them so after some thinking we realized it came in after a huge flood that flooded a stream. the stream came from a larger river which had many pike. it was to shallow for pike to pass through before. this was the first one over 8 inches caught in 16 years!!! what a day!!!
  12. i tried fishing my cheapo walmart spinnerbait and after one 2lb. smallmouth it wouldn't run straight. it kept running on its side. ill stick with my strike king spinners.
  13. the high 40's. was a very soft hit though for a topwater
  14. pearl or perch related colors work best at my lake.
  15. i went out on my lake today and i wasnt expecting to catch much. there was very strong fast gusts of wind chopping up the water. boy was i wrong. i started slow rolling a 1/4 oz colorado bladed chartreuse spinnerbait and caught a small 2 lb. smallie. later i swithced to a 3/8 ounce strike king spinnerbait. i caught several 2-4 lb smallies in a row. then after the bite died i switched up for a while. i eventually went back to my spinnerbait and caught a 5.5 lb smallie. then to finish it off i caught a medium sized 3.5 lb largemouth. i ended up catching 6 decent fish within one hour. great day for NY fishing
  16. i always seem to have a problem when i leave certain soft plastics in my box for a few weeks. they always come out bent like it has memory. some plastics like flukes come bent right out of the package. i heard someone mention putting them in hot water in another forum, but i don't understand how that would work. i need some way to fix them because some of them are bent to a point i cant fish them anymore
  17. swimbait.
  18. i dont know of any actual tournaments in that area but i do know a few good lakes. lake queechy which is right next to springfeild in NY has great smallmouth, good LM, lake trout, pike and panfish. it covers many great species. also if you are willing to make the trip a 20-30 minute drive to averill park and east greenbush, NY you have many great lakes. to name a few- glass lake, crystal lake, crooked lake, snyders lake and many many smaller lakes. some of them do have spring tournaments for local clubs. you should be able to get some more local tournament info their.
  19. im sorry zen i didn't want to be mean when i said that it was a cheap reel. the rod that comes with it works surprisingly well for the price. it works well for the price its just that i had a bad experience with it.
  20. its too bad that many ponds at golf courses where i live have any fish poisoned out of them to stop ducks and geese from crapping everywhere
  21. stren flourocast is way weaker than other fluoros and i havent tried regular stren flouro . i use trilene 100% professional grade fluoro when im using fluorocarbon. just make sure to drag the line behind the boat to get rid of the memory
  22. i use them for jerkbaits mainly
  23. the reason is your cheap reel. i used that reel when i was eight because it came with a rod and kit and costed only 20.00 but it stunk. its a horrible reel with only 1 bearing and a bad drag
