Well you are lucky being form Texas. If you read Tom Redington's Lake Fork report he said that some bass are already starting to move into prespawn staging areas. A general rule for winter fishing is deep and slow, but that's not saying tht a shallow fish can't be caught. I also prefer big baits in the winter time. Bass are opportunist and during the winter time your really have to drop a bait in front of their face to get a bite. A big bait in my opinion will intice a strike over a smaller bait. They are almost hibernating wanting to use the least amount of energy possible. Bites in the winter are few and far between, but quality fish can be caught. I haven't got to fish the past 2 winters. It has been too cold and the lakes froze up in early December just like this year. But a few years back we had a 2 mild wintes in a row and my dad and I went fishing nearly every weekend. I actually caught my PR back then on December 31.

I knid of consider Junebug in the "Blue" category. That was the hot color for me two years ago and it will worl in any water color. About red, I like soft plastics with red flakes.

This is something that I focused on this year. I was really trying to limit the number of colors of soft plastics I carry in my ever growing tackle bag. This whole season I basically used 3 colors. Black, Blue, and dark shades of green. It really saved me some headaches while on the water and there was a lot less mess in the baot at the end of the day. I also carried a few whites for sight fishing. Jigs were bascially the same thing, but add brown in there. Then there is crankbaits .............. Still have every color under the rainbow. :

Welcome to the forum .... and bass fishing for that matter. Your points you made above are exactly what attracts all of us to the species. To me it's just as much about the hunt as it is the catch. Have you checked out the library on this site. It is extremely extensive and you can find info on just about anything. I would start there and then ask questions on the board about specifics that you may not completely understand. Don't be a fraid to ask questions either even if you think they might be dumb. There are a bunch of great guys on this site from all experience levels that are more than willing to help you out.

I would say anything that you would normally fish with. Find the current breaks both above and below the water and you should find some fish.

The topwater bite doesn't pick up for me until mid to late June. Poppers have always been the most consistent for me. Buzzbaits will catch you some biggn's though.

I believe you are talking about a 2 man bassboat? I put a platform in mine that was removable when I first got it when I was 15 and I took many swims that summer. So I would have to say no they are not stable enough. I do however stand up inside it.

The one in Kansas City is actually on the Kansas side. Right now I have a Cabela's 20 minutes away, in about another year or so there will be a new BPS 15 minutes away, as well as some other giant sporting goods store (I think ...... Sportsman's ....... huskertko knows for sure). Can you say trouble? I will also be graduating from college with in the next year and hopefully have some $$$$ to spend. The monkey is getting very excited.

There's the right word. AGGREVATING. Yes they are aggrevating, but have just as much of a right to be there as you do.

I'm with LBH here. They have as much a right to be there as you do. You know, they might say the same thing about us. Now there is a difference between curtious jet skiers and a . There are certain weekends of the year you should just not fish though.

I took one of my best friends "Bass" fishing last summer for his first ever bass trip. The only fishing he had ever done was trout fishing with power bait and catfishing with night crawler. I showed him how to use a senko, crankbait, etc. It was a great day to teach a newbie how to bass fish. It seemed like anything you threw at them worked. He caught 16 and I caught 14. I thought he was hooked for sure and I had a new fishing buddy. Nope. Didn't seem to thrill him. Why, I have no idea. He as well as all my other non-fishing friends never let me forget the he out caught me that day. Then I try to explain to them that he was in the front of the boat and that I found the fish. You know, bringing out every excuse in the book. They just don't get it though. O well ;D

Warning: If someone really wants to get in there they can. I'm sure Matt_Fly can attest to that with all the burglaries that are happning down at Lake Fork. Many of those boats had some sort of anti-theft device on them.

With crankbaits I just turn my upper body. With plastics, jigs, etc. my rod tip is usually up around 10 o'clock when I detect a bite. I immediately drop the tip of the rod and point it in the direction of my lure and at the same time reel up all the slack line. Then I SET the hook.
