  1. Down by the marina in Presque Isle Bay, wife caught onto a fat boy but we don't have a clue what it is, have photos with my son holding it. It's got more of a sucker mouth from what I could see.
  2. Or one armed rage craws
  3. My local dicks never has St Croix rods on sale, make it even worse they carry the oddball mojos and triumphs
  4. Ever think about clip ons to go over your regular glasses? Seen a pair at walmart you can try out if you're interested
  5. If hes 8, why not start him out with a zebco
  6. Better get the saleman to market in them stores, p-line is eating your part of the dough
  7. I started out with shimano, but l had one of their rods break bringing in a fish. After asking customer service about their other rods durability the guy told me he didn't know and I should use someone else's rods. That threw me into trying St Croix, been with them since.
  8. Yeah, the Omega Z02, it's 6lb rated. The problem with omegas is they are way too heavy For ultral lights, you best bet is the zebco platinum 11. Shame it's the only spincaster I never tried out, the platinum 33 is nice though, so hopefully the quality trickled down the line. Stay away from the pflueger/shakespere micros, they break too easily, never knew 4lb triline could cut through a metal bell in 2 days until my wife bought them
  9. The purpose is finding diamonds in the rough, I visit many markets/auctions/yard sales where plenty of deals are found. Some people who sell at these markets don't know what they have and price the stuff with the rest of the junk. Yesterday was a good day, I spent about $35 and picked up a dozen of new in box rapalas, 3 big Plano tackle boxes, and assorted gear. At another market I spent $1 for a small box that had 3 blue fox spinners, 4 mepps 1/16's, 3 1/8 rooster tails. Deals are out there. I know I've read several posts searching these forums alone where guys would say 'I would buy "x" rod if it I could find it' that can't be bought at a store anymore
  10. It's that time for yard sales and flea markets to fire up, through the years I've been an avid market mole but not an angler while going since I'm still new to fishing. So I'm asking everyone their input on what makes/models of rods and reels throughout time that would be a no brainer to pick up if you saw it sitting on a sale rack at a good price The only area I'm good at right now is inspecting (helps to have years of QC experience), turned down a couple rods before because of problems Have at it, maybe even make this a sticky for others always asking for quality sensitive rods or built like a tank reels from days gone by that are deals waiting to be taken
  11. Don't forget the crankbaits, smaller preferably. I've caught more trout on cranks than anything else
  12. It would help if his state had a winter like ours does
  13. I don't see why any would route for jr, if it wasn't for his last name no one would like him at all
  14. That's good to hear about the 8#, but the 4# is terrible. I never thought I would experience birds nests like in baitcasters on a spinning reel, not to mention some reels I tried it on couldn't even get casts out. Your opinion falls under the same category Memory is the the biggest complaint
  15. What annoys me more is when there's a trash can near the junk they leave behind. Fishing line getting sucked into the propeller? That's a tuffy though, since getting a lure stuck out in the water and having it break off, can't really do much about that. I mean I get frustrated hooking a broken line every now and then but it's not really their fault
  16. Wait, is someone trying to say shimano is like toyota but recalls 14 million reels in a year?
  17. 1 fishing back pack with assorted plastic cases, with all lures and tools, I ditched the tackle box a while ago 1 medium sized net, it also doubles as snake defense (use the rim to hold down) 2 rods max, none specific since I carry a lot of different lure/styles I ditched the camera in favor for the camera phone, 5mp is good enough
  18. Yep, it also added to the fact that it's never their fault and it has to be someone elses
  19. Thanks for all the spotting differences and comments guys, Been very helpful
  20. I got a hold of the PFBC, my local officer stopped by to check it out, confirmed its a Brown with a unique pattern and length of 23". I also got it weighed at the closest registered weight station, 4lb. I know it seems like a rounded number but thats what they ended up doing
  21. Go for it, I tried to get on there several times but registration is closed. The creek is Monocacy though I'll bring it down regardless, maybe the official will add more info. My scale is terrible anyway so a real weigh in will be much better, thanks for all the replies so far guys
  22. No worries, that's why im on here I was under the impression of PFBC's guidelines on trout, which quick identifies brooks with worm-like patterns, which this trout has, and browns having red dots on the quick guide which this one doesn't, though this has white or lighter color on just the edge of its fins, then it points out it being a brown from the few or none spots on the tail. This is confusing because all the identification charts I look at is pointing to either species. Also found out there was article about Tiger Trout released by the PBFC which is a mix of the two.
  23. Thanks, it was done on a spinning setup with a crankbait
