I would be more inclined to take the article more seriously if it wasn't a private lake and they provided information that matters besides the eye catching "%" figures.
If you don't have a receipt you won't be able to get cash back, but a trade/gift card instead, which is what you want. Only problem I see is walmart stocks a few of everything so they might not have multiples of what you want to exchange. You might have to go to another local walmart.

7" Needle nose Pliers
Braid scissors
Tape Measure
Digital Scale
Small screwdriver set for reel service
Wacky O Ring Tool, though I don't use it much
Sometimes I bring a 9" Hook Remover and a smaller pair of needle nose pliers
What do you carry?
Depending on duration of the trip, I usually bring a stick of jerky, a 12oz bottle of water, and some tums. A phone is necessary for emergency and photos. I forgot to mention electrical tape for any cuts
