  1. Around this time of the season I would have to say watch your speed on the retrieve. I live in VA and the water temp is in the 60 and I have had far more success on slow presentation than fast lately. So whatever you fish just fish it kind of slow. But not super slow, just find a good median I guess
  2. Is it illegal to kill carp when caught? Or is it up to the person who owns the pond? I fish in a few ponds that are city owned and sometimes I get bored and throw some corn and catch some monster carp. It's pretty fun but I have always wondered if I should kill some or not.
  3. You should tend to switch over to dark colors, such as black blue flake. The vision of bass decreases in low light conditions, just as ours does. Their vision may be slightly better, but it still decreases at night time. You want to present a silhouette, shadowy lure to the bass. This is the best way to fish at night, senkos work great at night as do lipless cranks. I believe color matters more at night, so stick to the dark blues, purples and blacks.
  4. In the south, the early wave of the spawn begins when water temperatures are in the 58-65 degree range. This is when the bass will begin to find places to make beds and actually make them. They may not have eggs on there beds around this time, but they will be sitting on their beds and at this point they will begin to be very defensive of their beds. This spring has been pretty different compared to past years, I was fishing a tournament in the middle of march and actually caught all of my fish sight fishing and I found them on their beds. The whole winter I was not expecting to find this until mid April or early May, but I was way off.
  5. I live in vabeach so I fish a lot of little neighborhood lakes, but other than that I fish newport news resevoirs like harwood mills which has a lot of nice bass in and the chick occasionally.
  6. Has anyone been fishing in the Hampton roads area lately? What's working, any patterns? I have actually been getting a lot of defensive hits in frogs and flukes lately
  7. I haven't, sorry
  8. I have a tournament at the Newport News Reservoir this sunday and I was wondering if anyone has fished it within the last week or two. I went out about a week ago and got a few, missed a nice one on a jig. Water temp was 51-54, but with these past days being so nice and hot I have no idea what the temperature is of the water. Any advice? Thanks
  9. Also I forgot to mention I fish freshwater for bass. No saltwater if that matters
  10. I want a fish finder on my kayak and I was wondering what the best one is for kayak fishing. I would like something in the $100-$150 price range.
  11. Fish a creature bait or jig on some Cyprus trees if you can find them in deep water. I was successful on a Junebug color. Buy some missile bait d bombs in the lovebug color. They caught fish when nothing else could the other day. Rig on a 3/16 oz weight and a 4/0 wide gap hook Hope this helps
  12. What's the military lake you mentioned?
  13. I'll be fishing the Chick this sunday for a school tournament, I haven't fished it in the fall but in the summer I caught a nice 5-6 lb on a blue/black jig. Has anyone made it out on the Chick lately? If so what worked?
  14. If you were fishing an artificial worm or plastic bait the line may have been resting on some sort of underwater structure. When you give the bait a twitch and it doesn't make it completely over the structure it will fall on the same side it was already on and it will fall very fast most of the time making it seem like something is running with it.
  15. I'm southern georgia for a few days and there are a few lakes around my hotel. They seem pretty shallow, maybe 5-8 feet and grass seems to be the main cover. I pulled out 2 bass on a june bug senko and then one on a spook. All three of them were under 2 pounds...any tips to get some bigger ones? Should I throw a jig or a swim bait or what? Thanks
  16. From the 6th through the 10th of July
  17. Thanks! Will they tend to be deep this time of year just like up here in VA?
  18. Thanks, I just emailed a guide in Jacksonville...I hope the redfish are running right now because that would be a blast. I know I've watched shows when they are running and they can't seem to keep them from hitting their buzzbaits.
  19. I will actually be in kings bay, georgia. But I will possibly be making a trip down to jacksonville. I'll primarily be fishing smaller lakes and I was planning on trying the same stuff I use here in Virginia Beach like senkos and trick worms and maybe some jigs. Does that sound right for florida and southern georgia lakes?
  20. I will be in the Jacksonville area within the next week and I have never fished Florida. I just need some tips on what to use there around this time of year, thanks!
  21. If you have versus, there was an episode of the bass pros that explained it perfectly. They put re runs on quite frequently so look out for it
  22. I'll be in kings bay georgia for a few days in about a week and I was wondering if anyone knew about any guides in jacksonville or any good lakes to fish. If you know of a good guide please provide the name and number. Thanks!
  23. http://vimeo.com/25481441 My friend and I are thinking about making a little fishing video season. This is going to be our intro, let me know what you think..
  24. I went out to lake chickahominy saturday and got there about 4 in the afternoon, I went straight to some brush sticking up where it drops off and pulled a 6 pounder out flipping a black/blue 3/8 ounce jig. After that I caught one more little one on a bubble gum fluke by the lillies and then a huge storm rolled in and chased me off the water. I think they are hanging on to deep cover about now. Use jigs and creature baits.
