  1. do they sell the stringer clips seperately or did you take a stringer apart?
  2. heres my "cat".....
  3. after alot of reading on here about general spring patterns and all thing spawn. i picked up some great info. one thing that really stuck with me was a quote about where to fish acording to the season. para-phrasing "summer and winter fish the main lake, sping and fall fish the creeks that feed the main lake" i practiced last saturday. got on the water about 8:45am. i headed way up a big finger of the lake to a creek fed area. i knew it was shallow in this area and got deeper towards the main lake so i planned to fish my way out and i would find them some where. saturday the lake is very clear by nature but in the back where i started it was chocolate milk. i put on a double CO. blade 1/4oz white spinnerbait. it had chartues in the skirt and the blades were bigger gold and smaller silver. we started on the shaded bank in 57deg water. i quickly took the boat to the sunny side almost a degree warmer in about 75yds i caught 2 and my dad 1 on a t-rigged watermelon w/chartues tail lizard. 1 male and 2 prespawn females, out of about 18in of water. all the bites were soft but my 2 fish were hooked on the main hook not the trailer making me think they really liked it. i felt like a had figured out a pattern and it was time to try something else. changed to a white green and orange shallow jerk bait and . back to the shadey now getting a little sunny. i caught one more on it. now i felt a needed to try somewhere to see it held up. WE DIDNT GET BIT FOR THE REST OF THE DAY!!!. tried tried shallow clear, shallow murky, from deep points all throught the slew till 6'' of water. the water got around 60 everywhere, but did se any bedding anywhere. tried several other baits beside the fish catchers. my game plan for saturday is haed straight there and camp out for awhile. 1st.early- buzzbait, zara spook, jitterbug, popper 2nd.as it warms-spinnerbait,chatterbait,shallow crank, jerk bait 3rd. break out the soft plastics. does this sound like a plan? am i right asuming it was a mornig bite that turned off? i picked up some black spinnerbaits w/ CO. blade after reading they are better for nasty water.would you fish the bait that produced or go black? i would be greatfull for anything that you are willing to share. tight lines
  4. what i used to make a 6 fish culling system six plastic bobber. some 65lb braid. six troline hooks. 18'' of stiff single strand wire. six 1ft peices of 1/4'' drip line. small dry erase board and marker. i hate buying simple stuff i know i can make. played with it in my head and had this stuff laying around. trotline hook are handy as they have huge eye made for big string. i dint know what recomend for hose, just used socthe braid would cut my hand holding a thrashing fish and damage the slime layer as bad. all you need to make 1 part start with a good ol' palomar knot. you kinda see it in the photo. the hooks had the bards ground of and point dulled till they are safe. now put 1'' of wire through the hook eye and twist it tight. thread the line throught the tube and attach the bobber like normal. with the line secure in both bobber hooks bring it back down and wrap it several time between the cork and hose secure it with a couple of overhand knots finish product i used the end of a flashlight to show how the hook and wire work. the hook goes around the jaw bone and is then held by the wire. im going to put #s and lines with sharpie on the dry erase board. the put the fishes weight with a erasable marker. it will be secure by velcro to the side of my console next to the livewell hatch. a peice of paper ans pencil would work to.
  5. ican understand that happening. i got hung on the other side of a small creek one time. i did everything i could and couldnt get free. i was fishing a "bullet" weighted t-rig. i stepped behind a bid tree and start pullingto break off. the weight came back so hard it was stuck in the tree and bent into a "U" shape.
  6. i am not a biologist...but i did stay at a holiday express. . the reason culling works in ponds is their simple food chain. bugs and such are eaten by your prey species and prey is eaten by bass. you can almost be certain that by removing small bass more prey is availible for the the fish left to thrive. now in a lake removing small bass could free up structure and cover drawing in bigger fish that we could then catch easier.i remeber reading it takes 10lb of food for a bass to grow 1lb,so a 5 fish tournament stringer removed you have freed up 50lb of prey. with turtles, otters, birds, stripers, hybrids, crappie, bowfin, gar, catfish and all the other predators present in a lake i doubt much of that reaches the greenfish. increased havest and decreased stocking of competive species.what would probably would help the bass more would. i my self see that as being selfish and wouldnt feel right throwing others sportsmans main targets and species i pursue some under the bus so my bass average 4oz more. a article in a AL outdoor mag was urging fishermen to start keep fish off of eufala. the bass had depleted their food source after the amry engineer corp. used carp and mechanical harvesters to clear out large sections of grass out. the whole food chain was inflated by all the grass. the brim lost their forage and cover and the bass had gorged on all the easy brim and were now lacking prey and starving. despite most bass showing signs almost all fishermn were practicing C&R and not helping the situation. is comercial fishing for sport fish good,no. is releasing every fish good,no. the answer is somewhere i the middle
  7. be sure to bring your hook through your worm then barely hide the tip in the top to be weedless. you might want to get a hook file.keep those bad boys sharp.
  8. i miss more topwater fish if i really focus on the bait,it just goes against to many insticts. i like to look at something else and keep the bait in my perifrial. the delay of me getting on target really helps me hook up
  9. if you are needing to make longer cast a c-rig is a good choice. no matter how weight you have in front of your leader once your weights hit bottom it is a weightless presitation. that is why i like lizards and baits that have action without you having to do something, since the weight makes harder. try a w/ few baits and speeds see if you find something that works.
  10. i guess it all about location. around here a very nice mid 90's glass bass boat brings as much to 1k more than early to mid 2000's aluminum fishing boats.
  11. i went the used aluminum route and couldnt be happier. .with aluminum rot is not really a worry if you have any labor skills new decks and carpet are easy. searchtempest.com is a craigslist search engine that makes it much easier to use. i looked at what outboard i wanted and then what hull it was on i bought a 02 g3 175 w/ a low hour yamaha last fall. while i was looking i saw tons of tracker type bass boats well within your budget. fiberglass cost more to buy, tow, repair and operate.
  12. i use ponds as test grounds all the time. heck yesterday at a pond i caught 4 bass in five cast on worms so i knew they biting.broke out a chatterbait for the first time. it was one i found. it was a blast, the strikes were brutal. i will definitly be getting a few. i use the dog pic because it cracks me up since i have a dog that is his twin.
  13. what i know (or at what i think i know) i started out pond fishing and transfered over to lakes.from reading on here i use lighter gear than alot of guys do. i cant really think of anytime when this has hurt me or lost me a fish. rods: 6'6'' med.light spinner, 8lb big game: small plastics weightless or 1/8oz with 1/0 hooks. 7' x-fast med spinner, 30lb spiderwire w/ 12lb flouro leader: larger weightless, shakey head,t-rig,flukes,dropshot and finess c-rig. 7' moderate med. heavy baitcaster with 12lb biggame(hope to soon replace w/ a fast carrot stik and shimano caius which will get the braid/flouro treatment ): heavy t-rig and c-rig. line: i use trilene big game for my mono. i started using braid and flouro this year, before that i just used mono. i think flouro is the ticket for worm fishing. it is very sensitivy, abrasion resistant, invisible under water and sinks. the sinking factor is great in the wind since it goes below the surface and you can stay in contact with the bait much better than braid and mono the float and get wind arches killing your feel. the only down sides is lack of managbility, cost, and knots can break easily if tied wrong. to make my dollar go futher i fill half my spool with mono then uni-to-uni braid till i fill the spool up then uni-to-uni flouro and about 20ft of flouro. so far i am loving braid on my spinning gear and my dad has the same line set up on his baitcaster and likes it. worms: shakey head gambler gigi stick, watermelon w/redflake,redbug; bigbites sqirrell tail, watermelon w/redflake. used on a 1/4 oz ball jighead. any straight worm will work but if it doesnt have floating qualities they will fall over unless fished on a standup jig head. c-rig lizards 6-8'' have plenty of zooms but im changing over to bigbites kriet tale and yum salemander yums .watermelon w/redflake,junebug,watermelon w/ chartues tail.in ponds i used to tear em up on black w/ blue tail but havent seen then in stores in a while. i also have big ribbon tails i,watermelon w/redflake,motor oil chartues and black they dont seem to do as well. dropshot. dont waste money on specialty weights just get bass casting weights. really any plastic will work i havent done it enough to be very helpful here but ive read of some cravy stuff like wacky rigged lizards. t-rig baby brush hog; watermelon w/redflake,junebug u-tail worms;redshad, watermelon w/redflake,junebug lizards same as c-rig trickworms;redshad, watermelon w/redflake,junebug,white,pink,lime. weightless; either baby brush hogs or trick worms. i have i lot more plastics i have picked up on sale to try or only use in specail situations. the ones listed above are the ones that are the most consistant for me.
  14. i seem to remember reading 10lbs per acre per year for ponds. i keep bass quite often, nothing over 3lbs im not going to take someones pb home and fry it. .i enjoy eating them and people really like being given fresh fish. i also like to keep tabs on what they are living off of. another thing to remember is the powers at be dont alway really have the sportsmen best intrest in mind. they look at everything from a $$$$$ standpoint. aside from places that carry a trophy lake rep and generate money that way. im sure many dnr's would rather have it where anybody could catch a good number of dinks from the bank at their public areas vs. a skilled angler in a boat catch a handful of quality fish. easy fishing =more people in the sport= more tackle and liscence bought. just look at the red snapper. s it has a slot,1 fish limit and a short 45 day season. must be be a struggling species right?. when fishing with my cousin who lives on the gulf we have left spots because all we were getting were snapper and quickly going through our live bait we were trying to get grouper with.they were all very nice size, would have been great tablefare but they were off limits. many of his fishing buddies have similar stories. its hard to deny that the laws are setup for the tourist industry and their money, not the locals.
  15. probably the best solution right there. this is what me and my B.I.L. do at a few spots we bank fish.
  16. thanks for the help guys sound like it would fill a hole in my setups.
  17. looked at GM and carrots websties and cant find what rods they recomend for what task. what would the CLTXPG691MH-F-C suited for?
  18. 65lb braid is the size of 16-20lb mono if you go any smaller than that with braid it will cut into the spool and then 2oz of a-rig stops at full speed and snaps your line. i throw mine with 65lb braid. i thought it was over kill till i threw it. wish i had gone bigger.
  19. right now i have a med. light spinner (8lb mono) for weightless/light plastics and small lures. medium spinner (30lb spiderwire w/ 12 flouro leader)for almost all plastics except for heavy weights or heavy cover. a 8ft heavy rod (65lb braid) for heavy cover and lures, carolina rig, jigs,AL-rig. and then what ever reel you guys talk me into w/put on my challenger rod will be used for everything else, but i dont throw cranks much. after i get this combo i think want to get a parabolic glass rod for all treble hook baits and pair it with the 5.3 shimano on this rod now. from my reading ive done on here that is a good pairing. then this combo will become a single hook lure rod. since the enigma seem to be a no go. has anyone used a Shimano Caius. i trust shimano and it seems to be nice and nice on my wallet .
  20. is ther something that scares you away from the enigma, or just better reels for the money to be had?
  21. i want to get a bps enigma when they are half off next weekend. i would put it on a challenger pro mh cranking rod i already use with a lower geared shimano. it would be used for general casting/retrieving.i havent got to the point of having rods for specific teniques yet. here is where i am undesided. the reel comes in 7.1:1 and 6.3:1. i really like the idea of a 7.1 as ive never owned a reel that fast. in my head i see a 7.1 doing all a 6.3 can and more. so if you had to choose what route would you go?
  22. if you are buying new G3 is a great choice all metal transom and lifetime warrantied deck wood. i own a 02 G3 175. it started life as a pf. add 20sq-ft of rear deck,15gal livewell, and alot of storage. tore it down to the floor. was very impressed with the quality all through the boat. 1x2 tube or bigger for all deck framing. it floats in water<6'' my 50 yama goes 35mph (gps)
  23. any small sized stack can be put in a nalgene style bottle and "drank" hands free, awesome for any fishingthat yuck up your hands like cats or saltwater. put hotdogs on to boil. put hot water in a thermos to warm it whille this happens. when they are done put them in the thermos then pour in all the boiling hotdog water it can hold. hours later breaks out the buns and saved fastfood mustard/ketchup packet and enjoy. i also carry cheese single, crackers and canned ham for a group. min ham n cheese sandwiches.
  24. i know it sound scary putting a hole in your boat but with a through hull fitting and 3m 5200 you wont have any problems
  25. im cheap so i just save my plastics and pick something of similar color with action. zoom g tail worms give really thump on the bait. they also cause bad line twist whem fished t-rigged so all of mine will be trailers
